Abstract

Vocational education and training (VET) has in recent years enjoyed a revival for twomajor reasons. Firstly, it is regarded as a suitable means of promoting economic growth.Secondly, it is seen as a potentially powerful tool for fostering social inclusion. In thisreview, these assumed effects are critically examined on the basis of the vastly expandingliterature in the field. Evidence of the productivity‐enhancing effects of VET at companylevel is quite solid, but evidence of the effect on overall economic growth is far fromconclusive. The effects on social inclusion are uncertain because reform of VET systemshas not been sufficient and because it has proved difficult to bring about the necessaryinstitutional change. The review identifies policy implications and makes somesuggestions for future research.

Abstract

Vocational Education is education using a dualsystem. The dual system in question is learning carried out intwo places, namely in schools for Vocational High Schools orlearning carried out on campus for vocational students andlearning that is carried out in the world of work or industry.Learning carried out in two places must be able to balancetheory and practice. In order for a balance to occur there is aneed for an adequate learning model. One learning model thatis suitable for use in vocational education is Work BasedLearning (WBL). WBL is a learning model that teachesindividuals to be ready to work. In the world of vocationalpractice, it has become an important part, but if the practice isgood, but the theory is not strong, then someone can be saidnot to succeed in a career. WBL has several characteristics thatare closely related to vocational education.

Abstract

This paper presents a simple control strategy for vertical axis wind turbines using a permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG). The performance of the wind turbine is enhanced by a DC-DC Boost converter based on a PID controller. The purpose of this DC-DC boost converter is to maintain the output voltage to have a constant value when the wind speed changes. The dynamic wind speed affected the voltage output of the turbine generator and the input voltage of boost converter as well. The PID controller will make the wind turbines able to operate in wide range of wind speeds. The boost converter output will give feedback to produce the right PWM duty cycle and trigger the mosfet to maintain the voltage when the wind keeps changing. This system has suppressed the value of overshoot and increased the efficiency of wind turbines.

Abstract

Conflicts of interest that occur in family companies are not only conflicts between managers and owners, but ownership that is concentrated in the family tends to cause conflict between majority and minority owners. This conflict leads to opportunistic earnings management behavior. Earnings management behavior can be avoided by good corporate governance. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the level of earnings management in family companies by considering the characteristics of corporate governance. This study uses 117 samples taken by purposive sampling of companies listed on the Indonesian stock exchange. The research method uses WarpPLS approach to examine the moderation effect. The results of the study show that there is no tendency for family companies to conduct earnings management. Likewise, the effect of moderating Corporate Governance on earnings management behavior is not proven. However, based on the results found the effect of Corporate Governance on earnings management behavior that shows the better corporate governance, seen from the proportion of independent commissioners, the number of audit committees, and audit quality, the lower earnings management practices in companies. The results of this study indicate a Predictor relationship where the moderating variable changes to an explanatory variable. This study are expected to open the company’s horizons about the importance of good corporate governance. In addition, for further research, more concerned with the level of involvement family members in the company because different levels, low, medium, or high, can influence the tendency of family members to do or not to do earnings management.

Abstract

Red Pitaya fruit (Hylocereus polyrhizus) known as an attractive source of natural red colourant for food application. The extraction of betacyanin pigment was extracted from the flesh of red pitaya fruits grown in Malaysia by using water as the extracting solvent and Rohapect 1BL was used to clarify the pigment extract. Microcapsules Pitaya Pigment Powders were prepared by using combination of Maltodextrin 10 DE and 25 DE with ratio (1:2). The objective of this study was to analyze the storage stability (color retention, pigment retention and kinetic degradation) on pitaya pigment powders on light and dark condition of storage for 24 weeks. The effect of Ascorbic acid at two concerntrations (0.1 % and 1.0%) were also investigated. The results showed that addition of different amount of ascorbic acid did not affect to L* values. The changes of L* values in sample with the addition ascorbic acid (0.1 % and 1.0 %) was ranged from 0.31 to 0.34. Samples with 1.0 % ascorbic acid at 0 % and 32 % RH, their half lives were both shorter (26.7 months and 20.0 months, respectively. Based on the results showed that red pitaya pigment powders were stable upon storage until 24 weeks and it could be as an alternative source of red colourant.

Abstract

This paper proposes an approach for the detection of a ground fault on a unit generator-transformer, based on the extraction of statistical parameters from Wavelet transform based neural network. In the simulation, the current and voltage signals were found decomposed over wavelet analysis into several approximations and details. The simulation of the unit generator-transformer was carried out using the Sim-PowerSystem Blockset of MATLAB. The statistical parameters analysis involved measurement of the dispersion and tendency factors of wavelet coefficients. Regarding of confusion matrix and receiver operating characteristic of the neural network's pattern recognition performance, the accuracy of the single line to ground fault detection of neural networks was 98.44 %. The results indicated that the tendency factor feature of wavelet transform more accurate than dispersion factor feature of wavelet transforms in distinguishing a single line to ground-fault and normal condition for a unit generator-transformer.

Abstract

In 2017, population of Indonesia is estimated to reach almost 262 million people who are dominated by productive age in which approximately 30% are in Higher Education. Data released by the Ministry of Technology and Higher Education Research (Kemenristekdikti), mentioned that number of universities in Indonesia as of February 15, 2018 is 4586, which is accumulation of 400 public universities and 4186 private colleges. Community Service, in Indonesia, is one of the main pillars in the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. Accordance to the Law No. 12 of 2012, Article 1 Paragraph 9, Tridharma Perguruan Tinggi defined as Higher Education obligation to committedly perform education, research and community service, as unabridged. As one pillars of Tridharma Perguruan Tinggi, Community Service must be carried out by lecturers in Higher Education, unified along with education and research within a certain period of time simultaneously and inseparably. Considering these, come to a thought of how academician can be of any help in waste management response. Sampling Bali as one of tourist destination in Indonesia, that recently is being highlighted by one of international media, where invasion of the volume of plastic waste is gradually widespread and increasing, this study focuses on Information System as a strategy that can be taken as consideration to assist with waste management process with an output of application of Waste Management Information System.
