Abstract

This study aims to determine the structure, diameter increment, and cutting cycle estimation of residual stand for commercial species at log over forest managed with a selective cutting and line planting system (TPTJ) at PT Balikpapan Wana Lestari East Kalimantan, Indonesia. The residual stand parameter (tree amount, diameter, and increment) measurement was conducted at the log over area for 1 year, 2 years, and 3 years at the inter-planting line in TPTJ block from 3 PUP (Permanent measuring plot) which each with a size of 100 m x 100 m (1 ha). The result presents residual stand structure at the inter-planting line based on diameter class in the 'J' upside-down form indicates the larger diameter class, the smaller tree amount. The average diameter increment of the residual stand at the inter-planting line for commercial species is 1.04 cm/yr, and non-commercial is 0.65 cm/yr. The estimated cutting cycle is 19 years for commercial species with a cutting diameter limit of 40 cm up. The potential of stands in the inter-planting line can be expected to produce logging at the end of the cycle, besides the stand in the planted line, including superior species and having significant increments. Abstract

Abstract

Essential oil which is contained on most trees is one of the promising Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs) that need to be explored and developed further, for the oil is relatively safe and stores major benefits for local people. There are around 9 -12 types of essential oil that is being developed and one of them is cananga oil, which is available through distillation process of the flowers. The research aims to investigate the ability of cananga to be propagated trough shoot cuttings method, to discover the effects of growing media and plant growth regulators toward the shoot cuttings’ growth and to determine the suitable growth media and plant growth regulators for the cuttings’ development. The collected data were survival rate in percentage, root growth in percentage, height growth, numbers of developed leaf, numbers of developed primary and secondary roots, and also the length of primary roots. The addition of plant growth regulators gave a significant effect toward survival rate (in percentage), height growth and the numbers of developed leaf of the species whereas the addition of growing media and the interaction between the treatments did not give significant effect on the observed traits. All type of media options could be used for cananga shoot cuttings method and the best growth regulator identified in live percentage parameters, high growth and number of leaves on cananga shoot cutting is Rotoone-F. However, in case of rooting, the best growth regulator is found in addition of Rapid root. Keywords: Cuttings, Cananga, Media, Plant Gowth Regulator

Abstract

The application of silvopasture between the ylang-ylang (Cananga odorata forma enuine) plant and the signal grass (Brachiaria decumbens) has the potential to produce large economic value. The purpose of this study was to determine the response of ylang-ylang seedling growth to competition with grass signals without or with the addition of NPK, and to find out the optimal dose of NPK fertilizer that could help the growth of ylang-ylang seeds planted with grass signals. This study was conducted using a factorial pattern in a complete randomized design with the first factor being planting signal grass and the second factor was adding NPK fertilizer. The results of this study indicate that planting signal grass and adding NPK as much as 0,75 g significantly affected to the growth of ylang-ylang seedlings. The presence of signal grass in the same media showed no inhibition of the growth of ylang-ylang seedlings. The addition of NPK with the dose used did not significantly affect the growth of ylang-ylang seeds. Keywords: Brachiaria decumbens, Cananga odorata, NPK fertilizer dosage, silvopasture

Abstract

Sengon (Paraserianthes falcataria (L.) Nielsen) is a fast-growing and widely cultivated species in Indonesia. In addition, sengon is a type that is easy to adapt to the environmental conditions in which it grows. Upland rice (Oryza sativa L.) is a type of rice that is tolerant to drought. Sengon and upland rice in agroforestry can be an alternative in more effective land use. This study aims to measure local sengon growth, determine the productivity of upland rice in Inpago LIPI Go2 variety and light intensity in the sengon 1.5 m x 1.5 m and 1.5 m x 3 m line planting in agroforestry systems. Data analysis was performed by testing variance at the level of 0.05% and if the treatment had a significant effect, it was tested further using the Tukey Test. The results of this study indicate that sengon in the 6 months after planting is not affected by pathway treatment, but line planting treatment has a significant effect on upland rice productivity results. Beside age factor of sengon, it can be several other factors such as pest and disease attacks on sengon or upland rice. Keywords: agroforestry, light intensity, sengon, upland rice

Abstract

Tingginya keanekaragaman jenis pohon menjadikan manusia sejak lama memanfaatkan sumberdaya hutan tersebut baik untuk keperluan pangan, sandang, maupun papan. Untuk memudahkan kegiatan pemanfaatan tumbuhan, perlu adanya pengetahuan mengenai pengenalan identitas jenis pohon. Jenis-jenis pohon andalan Indonesia salah satunya berasal dari suku Dipterocarpaceae, yaitu kayu meranti dari marga Shorea. Pengelolaan kawasan hutan penghasil kayu meranti perlu dilakukan agar produktivitas kayu tetap terjaga, salah satunya melalui pengelolaan regenerasi alaminya.
