Abstract

According to Central Bureau Statistic of Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia, 24.15 % of citizens aged 7 until 24 years old decided to stop pursuing education. This data shows how critical building the willingness of citizens in Southeast Sulawesi to see the world as a competitive game where education takes a vital role. There have been many efforts to solve this problem, one of them is the effort of the country to send people to study abroad by scholarship or fellowship. This research tried to unveil the perspectives of people in Southeast Sulawesi who have experience studying or doing an internship abroad. The study used open-ended questionnaires from fifty alumni of scholarships and fellowships from Southeast Sulawesi. This report tried to unveil alumni stories of experiencing the culture and values and living abroad and how they applied them after returning to the country. In general, they showed positive feedback from the scholarship or fellowship experience they had. However, they perceived some critiques toward some cultures and system after returning to their homeland. Keywords: Youth, Living abroad, Scholarship and Fellowship, Culture.

Abstract

The fossil fuel crisis will remain a major topic that needs to be looked for a solution together until other alternative fuels are found. Bioethanol has now become a trend and focus of researchers in Indonesia and various parts of the world as an environmentally friendly alternative energy and given the potential of Indonesia as one of the largest palm oil-producing countries in the world with the amount of lignocellulosic biomass waste such as Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunch (OPEFB). OPFEB is the most desirable and realistic alternative to substitute fossil fuels as the main energy source. The use of these wastes as renewable fuels is very significant in terms of expanding economic value and solving environmental problems. This review paper offers an insight into the current creative approaches to the development of OPEFB such as characteristics of OPEFB, pretreatment process, and enzymatic hydrolysis.

Abstract

This paper reports on research into vocabulary learning opportunities provided in the reading comprehension passages. It is a quantitative study with a corpus analysis using AntWordProfiler program. Data was collected from reading comprehension passages involving all words in the passages. The results show that the reading comprehension passages provided a great opportunity to deepen knowledge of first 1,000 most frequent words. However, they did not provide good opportunities to develop knowledge of second 1,000 most frequent words, academic words and unlisted words well. This is because most of the word families found in the reading comprehension passages occurred once and less than five times. In conclusion, the reading comprehension passages provided opportunities to learn first 1,000 most frequent words and lacked the opportunities for second 1,000 most frequent words, academic words and unlisted words.

Abstract

This study aims to (1) examine the life skills of students of Tadris Biology PRODI, FATIK IAIN Kendari through Microbiology learning based on Life Skills Education using the CTL Approach, (2) examining the attitudes of Tadris Biology PRODI, FATIK IAIN Kendari after learning Microbiology Based on Life Skills Education with the CTL approach. The research sample was all students of the Tadris Biology PRODI FATIK IAIN Kendari in the fifth semester of the 2018/2019 academic year totaling 32 students. The results showed that the life skills of students of the Tadris Biology PRODI at FATIK IAIN Kendari in the fifth semester of the 2018/2019 academic year through learning Microbiology with the CTL approach, all students achieved life skills competence with an average score of 8.93. Based on the results of the questionnaire, students' attitudes showed a positive attitude, meaning that students in general (85.91%) agreed to microbiology learning based on life skills education with the Cotextual Teaching and Learning Approach. .

Abstract

this study present several examples of using Excel spreadsheets to study and simulate physical phenomena, namely projectile motion, falling motion in The air, The wave function of particles in a one-dimensional box, and nuclear radioactive decay. Spreadsheets are used to analyze the motion of projectiles with and without resistance, falling objects with different terminal velocities, graphs of wave functions and probabilities with different values of n, i.e. n=1 to n=4, and nuclear decay with different probability values of P. The use of excel spreadsheets has proven to be very useful in the physics learning process, namely the rapid response to changes in data and graphs, according to the values given

Abstract

A Firmly nonexpansive mapping is a map which is closely related to equilibrium problems. Nonexpansive, nonspreading, and hybrid mappings are nonlinear mappings in Hilbert spaces. In this paper, we show the existence of a fixed point of nonexpansive, nonspreading, and hybrid mappings in Hilbert space using Banach limit.

Abstract

This study aims to quantitatively investigate the effect of Critical Incidents Technique on students’ writing aspects, particularly vocabulary, language use, and mechanics. The design of this research is pre-experimental one group pre-test and post-test design. The sample of this study was taken through purposive sampling based on the students’ writing score in EFL class. The students’ writing aspect was successfully improved through Critical Incident Technique (CIT) based on the writing score. This can be seen on the students’ mean score in three aspects of writing in pre-test was 48,39, while the students’ mean score in post-test was 81,50. There were 33,11 points differences between the students’ mean score in pre-test and post-test. This implies that students’ writing in content, organization, vocabulary, language use, and mechanic aspects can be improved using CIT. Although this research employs only quantitative design, it is recommended to have further investigation using qualitative study.
