Abstract

Sebangun village, Sebawi Sub-district, Sambas Regency whose residents are all ethnic Malays have a diversity of potential-food plant. Ethnic Malays in Sambas have a culture of utilizing plants for fulfilling their food needs, for example “merandau”. Ethnobotanical studies needs to be conducted to explore the plant that serve as potential food in the village. This research aims to identify the types of potential-food plant in Sebangun village; part that are used; utilization categories; and method of preparation, as well as to determine thr citation frequency value and the informant agreement ratio (IAR). The research used were purposive sample and semi-structured interviews. Quantitative analysis in the study was conducted for the citation frequency, the informant agreement ratio (IAR) and the percentage of the habits and parts of potential-food plant. Thirty three species of potential-food plant categorized into twenty four familis were found in this research. The fruit was the most widely utilized as food. The plant mostly used as potential food fell into the category og utilization as vegetables, i.e. fifteen species of them. The highest value of the citation frequency in this research reached 100%. The category of utilization as vegetables received the highest informan agreement ratio (IAR), i.e. 0.930.

Abstract

Tanjungpura University as an educational institution takes an important role in preserving the environment in Pontianak City, by prioritise green space and keep the trees around the campus remain sustainable. This research aims to know the total biomass and carbon stock at Tanjungpura University. The study was conducted from February to July 2017 at Tanjungpura University Pontianak, West Kalimantan. Carbon stock estimated by two categories, green space and administration and study area. Biomass estimated using allometric equation (Chave et al., 2005) by census every stand with DBH ≥ 5 cm. The results showed that total biomass ranged from 17,70-127,93 t/ ha with mean 71,10 t/ ha and carbon storage ranged from 8,85-63,97 t/ ha with mean 35,55 t C/ ha, and tree density mean 125,87 ind/ ha. Acacia mangium emerged as the highest carbon stock contributor in Untan (163,13 t C).

Abstract

Melati Putih (Jasminum sambac (L) W. Ait.) merupakan salah satu jenis tanaman yang dikembangkan sebagai bahan baku industri minyak wangi, penyedap teh, dan obat-obatan. Tanaman melati dapat diperbanyak melalui stek tetapi kemampuan stek melati untuk berakar masih sangat rendah. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian air kelapa dan IBA (Indole Butyric Acid ) terhadap pertumbuhan stek melati putih. Penelitian dilakukan di Laboratorium Biologi dan Rumah Kaca Fakultas Matematika dan Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam Universitas Tanjungpura Pontianak selama 3 bulan (Maret 2012 hingga Juni 2012). Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap dengan pola Faktorial dengan 2 faktor yaitu faktor A (konsentrasi air kelapa) yang terdiri dari 4 taraf konsentrasi yaitu 0% (kontrol), 20%, 40%, dan 60% dan faktor B (konsentrasi IBA) yang terdiri dari 4 taraf konsentrasi yaitu 0 ppm (kontrol), 25 ppm, 50 ppm, dan 75 ppm dan diperoleh 16 kombinasi perlakuan dengan 3 ulangan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian air kelapa 60 % dapat meningkatkan jumlah daun 4,50 helai, berat basah tajuk 2,37 gr, berat kering tajuk 0,90 gr. Sedangkan pemberian IBA 75 ppm dapat meningkatkan jumlah akar 24,25 helai akar, berat basah akar 0,81 gr, dan berat kering akar 0,45 gr. Konsentrasi air kelapa 60% dan IBA 75 ppm adalah konsentrasi terbaik untuk pertumbuhan stek melati putih.

Abstract

Black orchid (Coelogyne pandurata Lindl.) is the one type of orchid that spread to Sumatera and Kalimantan. This species of orchid is sought-after because of its potentially high economic value, so it has often been excessively exploited but not widely cultivated. This research aimed to reveal the influence ofthe extracts of bean sprout and benzyl amino purine (BAP) for the growth of the black orchid (C. pandurata). The research was conducted from May to December 2014 at the Laboratory of Tissue Culture, Department of Biologyand the Aloe Vera Center Pontianak. The experimental design used was the completely randomized design (CRD) with 2 treatment level. The first level was extract of bean sprout (0%; 5%; 7.5%; 10%) and second level BAP (0 ppm; 5 ppm; 7.5 ppm; 10 ppm). The results of the research revealed that the shoots appeared the fastest at the combined treatment of 10% bean sprout extract and 10ppm BAP, i.e. 5.38 days. The number of shoots appearred most at the treatment of 10% bean sprout extract and 10 ppm BAP with shoots appearing at an average of 3.79 ppm. The addition of 5% bean sprout extract resulted in the highest average number of leaves i.e. 3.77.

Abstract

Lettuce (Lactuca sativa L. var. New Grand Rapids) is a vegetable plant that has a contains high nutrients. Efforts that can increase the production of lettuce is using hydroponics technology and the addition of growth regulators is gibberellin (GA3). This research aims to determine the effect of addition of GA3 to gowth of lettuce using floating technology system of hydroponics without circulation. The research was conducted for four months from May to August 2017 in the Green House and Laboratory of Biology of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Tanjungpura University Pontianak. This research used a completely randomized design with five treatments (K) and three repetitions. The treatments given is the addition of GA3 with different consentrations: K0 (Control), K1 (5 ppm), K2 (10 ppm), K3 (15 ppm), and K4 (20 ppm). The result showed that the addition of GA3 didn’t significant affect on the number of leaves, but showed a significantly affected the height, root lenght, leaf areas, and fresh weight.

Abstract

Liquid wastes from palm oil containing lipid which, if not managed properly could potentially contaminate the environment. One of effective waste treatments that relatively cheap and environmentally friendly is by using bacteria as agents of biodegradation. The purpose of this study was to acquire lipid degrading bacteria and verify the isolate ability of lipid degrading bacteria which derived from sewage treatment plants PPKS PTPN XIII Ngabang, Landak District. The research was conducted from September 2011 to March 2012 at the laboratory of Microbiology and Chemistry laboratory of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Tanjungpura University. The method used for isolation of bacteria was pour plate and streak plate. The results obtained 9 isolates of lipid degrading bacterium. LSWJ1 bacterium isolate were capable to degrade lipids better since they could grow in liquid media oily and had the ability to reduce lipid levels by up to 25% for 14 days. Identification showed that isolate belonged to the genus Bacillus.

Abstract

This research aimed to find out the types of plants, benefits parts of plant organs, and processing methods used for making natural flavor. The research was carried out on the Jangkang Tanjung Dayak community in Ribau Village and the Malay community in Sungai Kosak Village, Sanggau Regency. The method used in this research was interviews with the respondents being determined through snowball sampling. Quantitative analysis was also performed by calculating the frequency of citation, percentage of habitat, and parts of the plants used as natural flavor by the communities of the two villages. The research found 7 species of plants used as natural flavor by the Jangkang Tanjung Dayak community in Ribau Village and 9 species of plants by the Malay community of in Sungai Kosak Village. The leaves were the mots commonly used parts of the two villages with a percentage of 100%. The habitat from which the plants were mostly found was in the forest and the garden. The processing method depended on the parts and types of plant used. The plants used as natural flavor had the highest citation frequency value which reached 100% of the two villages; and the lowest value in the Jangkang Tanjung Dayak community was 40% and in the Malay 25%.

Abstract

The potential for freshwater aquaculture in West Kalimantan is still high, including one of them is the Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). The purpose of this study was to determine the optimal growth and best survival rate by a combination of Fish, Earthworm Pheretima sp. and Brown seaweed Sargassum spp flour. The method used is Completely Randomized Design with four treatments and five replications. The result showed that treatments with > 60% plant raw materials shows the best resulting not only growth but also survival rate. Feed with a combination of these raw materials showed an allometric positive growth pattern.

Abstract

Tofu industrial wastewater containing high protein causes highly suspended solids (TSS) and dissolved solids (TDS). Moringa oleifera and Tamarindus indica seed powder can be used as a coagulant to reduce TSS and TDS. This study aims to determine best dose and the effectiveness of the combination Moringa and Tamarind seeds in improving the quality tofu liquid waste. The research was conducted in Pebruary to April 2013. Value TSS, TDS and total bacteria before treatment at high 1232 mg/l, 8432 mg/l and 2,7107 CFU/ml. The best treatment was at the dose K2:A1 (Moringa 133,3 mg and Tamarind 66,7 mg) with the final value TSS 151 mg/l, while the final value TDS 2794 mg/l. Best treatment for the total bacteria was at the dose K1:A2 (Moringa 66,7 mg and Tamarind 133,3 mg) with the final value 3,1106 CFU/ml. Once the tofu liquid waste is treated, the mean value of dissolved oxygen was 3,09 to 3,67 ppm and the degree of acidity was 4,67 to 5,00.

Abstract

Holothuria atra is marine creature which is potential as a source of antifungal material.This research aims to find out the antifungal activities of the extract of H. atra against the Malassezia furfur fungus that causes tinea versicolor. The extract of H. atra was obtained through a maceration method using methanol. The antifungal activities were tested using Kirby-Bauer disc paper diffusion method on the Saboraud Dextrose Agar (SDA) medium enriched with olive oil. The research used the extract with concentrations of 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100% with 2% of ketoconazole positive control and DMSO (Dimethyl Sulfoxid) negative control. The secondary metabolite test indicated content of alkaloids, triterpenoids, and saponins in the extract. The test results of antifungal activities showed that alllevels of concentration could inhibit the growth of M. furfur fungus characterized by the formation of a clear zone around the paper disc. The extract of H. atra is fungistatic with a very strong inhibition category. The concentration of 20% is the most effective in inhibiting the M. furfur fungus with a clear zone diameter of 22,16mm.
