Abstract

Postpartum stage starts once the baby was delivered and lasts until the genital area reverts to its pre-pregnancy condition. This process was referred as uterine involution. The speed of uterine involution is influenced by the walking stage, nutritional condition, age, number of pregnancies, and breastfeeding situation. Jujubes are rich in vitamins including riboflavin, biotin, thiamine, folic acid, and ascorbic acid, in addition to calcium, iron, copper, cobalt, magnesium, fluoride, manganese, phosphorus, and potassium. Expectant mothers are recommended to consume jujubes during the later phases of pregnancy to boost oxytocin levels and enhance uterine contractions post-delivery. Higher levels of maternal oxytocin following delivery may affect uterine contractions. Proper control of uterine contractions can ensure that postpartum uterine involution occurs smoothly and that uterine atony is prevented. The purpose of this research was to assess the impact of date consumption on uterine involution in mothers after childbirth. This was a quasi-experimental research with a post-test design that included a control group. The participants in the study comprised 30 mothers who had recently given birth. Participants divided into two groups: the intervention group that consumed dates fruit and the control group that did not consume dates. Results showed that there was a difference in the average uterine involution of those who consume dates and those who did not consume dates. The group that consumes dates tends have a faster uterine involution process compared to the group of respondents who do not consume dates. Suggestions to postpartum women to consume dates after delivery.

Abstract

The postpartum period is the period after childbirth. The postnatal phase contains several adaptations, but not all postpartum mothers can go through it well and this can have an impact on mental health. Therefore, the mental health of postpartum mothers is something that must be considered, especially postpartum mothers who are very vulnerable to baby blues and postpartum depression, considering that poor mental health in postpartum mothers can hinder the smooth flow of breast milk. The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between mental health in postpartum mothers and the level of breast milk production in the Lewa Community Health Center working area, East Sumba Regency, NTT. This research was conducted at the Lewa NTT Community Health Center with a sample size of 30 postpartum mothers on days 1 to 10. This research used a correlation analytical method with a cross-sectional design. The instruments used were the EPDS questionnaire and the breast milk flow smoothness questionnaire. Bivariate analysis used the Spearman Rank test. The results showed that 19 (63.3%) respondents experienced moderate postpartum blues, and 21 (70%) respondents experienced irregular milk production. There is a relationship between mental health and the level of breast milk production in postpartum mothers with a P-value of 0.000 (0.05). It is hoped that community health centers can increase outreach and counseling activities to provide information related to mental health and optimal health education for postpartum mothers.

There is a difference in knowledge (p value 0.000), attitude (p value 0.000) and skills (p value 0.000) between those who are given peer education and those who are given leaflets.
