Abstract

Increasing the octane value of fuel can significantly improve engine performance and efficiency. This study explores mixing fuels with different octane ratings to achieve a desired balance of high octane and cost-effectiveness. Fuels with octane numbers 82, 86, 92, and 96 were mixed in various ratios (30%, 50%, 70%) of premium, pertalite, pertamax, and pertamax turbo. Results showed that mixtures like premium and pertalite (octane 85) and premium and pertamax turbo (octane 93) effectively increased octane levels. The study concludes that mixing fuels can enhance octane values and optimize fuel composition for better performance and cost efficiency. Future research could further explore various fuel types and ratios. Highlight: Mixing fuels increases octane rating and engine performance. Optimal fuel composition balances high octane and cost-effectiveness. Significant results with premium and pertamax turbo mixture. Abstract

The implementation of an automatic lathe, utilizing hydraulic drive and PLC programming, stands as a significant advancement in industrial engineering aimed at augmenting productivity while circumventing additional labor requirements. Through meticulous research, it was discerned that the predominant issue plaguing the production process was the occurrence of stoppages due to irregular or unstable dimensions in the output, particularly concerning the Item Bush K0JA Left. Employing methodologies such as SIPOC analysis and the 4M framework revealed that the root cause primarily stemmed from machine-related factors, exacerbated by fluctuations in the installation, resulting in misalignments and subsequent dimension inaccuracies. Addressing this, a targeted intervention involving the addition of locking bolts to the material fixture mitigated the stoppage occurrences significantly, with the operator rectifying positioning irregularities on average 1200 minutes per month. This intervention not only enhanced operational efficiency but also yielded tangible cost savings, amounting to Rp 578,000 monthly or Rp 6,936,000 annually, attributed to the prevention of production downtime. The implications of this study underscore the importance of proactive measures in streamlining manufacturing processes, thereby optimizing resource utilization and economic viability. Further research avenues could delve into the optimization of maintenance protocols for automated machinery and the exploration of advanced sensor technologies to preemptively detect dimensional inconsistencies, thus bolstering overall production resilience and efficacy. Highlight: Advanced machinery integration boosts manufacturing efficiency. Root cause analysis reveals process optimization insights. Cost savings demonstrate practical impact of production enhancements. Keywoard: Automatic lathe, Industrial engineering, Productivity enhancement, Dimensional accuracy, Cost savings

Abstract

Based on the conducted research, it is concluded that preheating has a significant impact on the tensile strength of welded aluminium 5083. Specifically, preheating at 40°C resulted in the highest ultimate tensile strength of 304.535 MPa, representing an 8.748% increase compared to the non-preheated specimen's 301.894 MPa. Conversely, preheating at 80°C led to a notable decline in tensile strength to 253.521 MPa, a decrease of 16.023%. These findings imply that moderate preheating can enhance the weld quality of aluminium 5083, while excessive preheating adversely affects it. This underscores the importance of optimizing preheating temperatures in welding processes to achieve desired mechanical properties. Further research is recommended to explore the underlying mechanisms affecting tensile strength at various preheating temperatures and to investigate the effects of preheating on other aluminium alloys. Highlight: Preheating at 40°C improves tensile strength by 8.748%. Excessive preheating at 80°C decreases tensile strength by 16.023%. Optimal preheating temperature crucial for weld quality in aluminium 5083. Keywoard: Aluminium 5083, Preheating, Tensile Strength, Welding, SMAW

Abstract

The research on the design and development of an automatic window covering system using a rain sensor presents significant findings and implications. Through the integration of innovative technologies like the rain sensor and direct current motor GW4632-370, the system effectively responds to weather changes by automatically closing windows when it rains, thereby preventing water ingress into indoor spaces. The study's findings underscore the feasibility and practicality of implementing such systems to enhance convenience and protect interior spaces from adverse weather conditions. Moreover, the successful creation of a 3D window frame design and the establishment of the electrical current circuit demonstrate the potential for broader applications in smart home and office automation. However, further research is warranted to optimize the system's efficiency, explore alternative power sources, and assess its long-term durability and reliability in real-world settings. Highlight: Integration of rain sensor: Enables automatic window closure during rain. Utilization of smart home technology: Enhances convenience and weather protection. Development of electrical circuit: Facilitates seamless operation and energy efficiency. Abstract

The study on improving the facility layout at CV. Surya Mega Yokasa demonstrated that the Systematic Layout Planning (SLP) method significantly enhances the efficiency of the production process, with a total reduction in material displacement distance by 13.45 meters and an efficiency increase of 16%. These findings imply that careful consideration of workflow and qualitative factors in layout planning can markedly optimize production flow and reduce congestion. However, the study did not factor in the Material Handling Costs (MHC), suggesting that future research should integrate MHC analysis to provide a more comprehensive evaluation of layout effectiveness and further optimize production efficiency. Highlight: Efficiency Boost: SLP reduced displacement by 13.45m, increasing efficiency by 16%. Improved Workflow: SLP method improved production flow, reducing congestion. Future Focus: Include Material Handling Costs for better layout evaluation. Keywoard: Systematic Layout Planning, Blocplan, Production Efficiency, Material Flow, Facility Layout

Abstract

The research conducted at PT. Carma Wira Jatim aimed to optimize the production area layout due to significant challenges stemming from machine delays and material handling inefficiencies. Through systematic layout planning (SLP) and computerized relative allocation of facilities technique (CRAFT), the study proposed improved layouts using Win QSB software. The results indicated differing efficiencies between the CRAFT and SLP methods, with CRAFT demonstrating a 4.5% reduction in total material handling moments compared to the initial layout, suggesting its superiority in this context. These findings underscore the importance of efficient layout design in mitigating production delays and enhancing operational effectiveness. Further research could explore real-time optimization algorithms to adapt layouts dynamically and investigate the impact of layout improvements on overall productivity and resource utilization. Highlight: Improved layout design enhances production efficiency. CRAFT demonstrates superior material handling optimization. SLP offers systematic planning for layout enhancement. Abstract

The study conducted at PT. Tjiwi Kimia aimed to assess the fatigue criteria and mental load experienced by production operators of cartoon box in the context of the company's 3-shift operation. Using the Bourdon Wiersma method for fatigue evaluation and the NASA TLX method for mental load analysis, findings revealed varying levels of fatigue and mental burden across different shifts. Notably, the morning shift exhibited "Good enough" speed fatigue but "Doubtful" accuracy fatigue, while the night shift showed "Enough" consistency fatigue. Furthermore, the mental burden was highest during the night shift, categorized as "High." These findings underscore the importance of addressing shift-related fatigue and mental load in industrial settings. Recommendations for implementing 3-shift rotations with weekends off and providing short breaks reflect potential strategies to mitigate worker fatigue and improve overall well-being. Future research could explore additional factors influencing worker fatigue and mental load, such as ergonomic interventions or technological advancements in production processes. Highlight: Shift Work Effects: Assessing fatigue and mental load in industrial settings. Evaluation Methods: Bourdon Wiersma and NASA TLX for worker analysis. Improvement Suggestions: Implementing 3-shift rotations and providing breaks. Keywoard: Fatigue, Mental Load, Production Operators, Shift Work, Industrial Setting
