Abstract

Osapan Beach is a beach tourism object located in Demta District, Jayapura Regency, which is currently still in the early stages of development to become a tourist spot. However, the existence of Osapan Beach is not widely known by the people in the City and Regency of Jayapura. Until now, there is no data or results of scientific studies that can be used as a reference for the development and management of Osapan Beach in the future. This study aims to determine the level of suitability of the area and carrying capacity and to find out how the perception of the community and tourists in the development of Osapan Beach as an eco-tourism location. This research was conducted from January to June 2021. The methods used in this study include the observation method (observation and direct collection of tourism suitability parameter data), interviews with respondents (asking several questions using questionnaires to 35 respondents and documentation (recording data, taking research drawings/photos). The results showed that the tourism suitability index (IKW) for all ecotourism suitability parameters at Osapan Beach, station 1 and station 2 had the same value, namely 89.28% (Highly Appropriate/S1), station 3 had a value of 95.23% (Very Appropriate/S1) and station 4 has a score of 82.14% (Suitable/S2). The carrying capacity of Osapan Beach as an ecotourism location is 21 people/day. Most of the respondents think that Osapan Beach deserves to be used as an ecotourism area where Osapan Beach has an attraction and has the potential to support the economy of the Yakore Village community. Abstract

Mangrove and seagrass ecosystems have important functions and roles in coastal and marine waters, as an ecological buffer system, habitat for various types of fish and aquatic biota, as well as a biosystem of energy flow for the aquatic environment in Youtefa Bay, Jayapura. This study was conducted to calculate and review the mangrove and seagrass ecosystem fisheries affected by ecosystem damage and pollution. Data collection using fishing methods, vertical plankton sampling, and measurement of water quality parameters. Analysis of the data used: (1) analysis of the level of diversity using the Shannon-Wiener index, (2) analysis of dominance, (3) analysis of species composition (4) analysis of fish abundance, and (5) descriptive analysis. This study succeeded in obtaining 99 fish samples from 11 families and 12 fish species. The level of diversity is moderate (2.21) and the abundance of species is 73 individuals/ha. There were 5 dominant fish species associated with the ecotone zone of mangrove and seagrass ecosystems, namely Valamungil buchanani, Chanos-chanos, Gerres oyena, Pempheris schwenkii, and Pentapodus aureofasciatus. More fish were found in the seagrass and coral reef ecotone zones, namely 180 fish individuals caught from 11 families and 17 species of fish, with a high level of diversity (2.77), an abundance of species as many as 150 individuals/ha, and no dominant species. The review study of fishery resources in the ecotone zone shows very rapid degradation and decline in diversity, composition, and abundance in the waters of the mangrove, seagrass, and reef ecosystems of Youtefa Bay, Jayapura.Key Words: Fisheries; Mangroves; Seagrass; Youtefa Bay; Jayapura

Abstract

Climate change has been global warming as greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) caused by increased emissions of gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), and chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) so that solar energy is trapped in the earth's atmosphere. Various efforts have been made to reduce the impact of climate change, one of which is by utilizing the oceans and coastal ecosystems as natural CO2 sinks. The purpose of this study was to determine the density, carbon sequestration in biomass and the habitat conditions of seagrass beds conducted in March 2021 in Youtefa Bay, Jayapura Papua. Seagrass density was carried out using the quadrant transect method, carbon content analysis was carried out using the ashing method. The results of the study found 1 species of seagrass, namely Enhalus acoroides, the density values ranged from 85.69 ind/m² - 102.56 ind/m². the value of biomass under the substrate ranged from 3321.75 - 3580.75 gbk/m² which was greater than the value of the biomass above the substrate, which ranged from 720.19 to 955.79 gbk/m², followed by the value of the carbon content under the substrate (roots and rhizomes) ranged from 87.30 – 96.92 g C/m² while the value of carbon content above the substrate (leaf) ranged from 35.99 – 44.84 g C/m². The total carbon stock in Youtefa Bay waters, Jayapura City, Papua ranges from 4859.38 – 6687.89 tons/ha.Key Words: Biomass; Carbon Content; Carbon Sequestration; Ashing Method; Youtefa Bay

Abstract

Coral reef is one of the important ecosystems that are beneficial for the stability            of marine ecological conditions as habitat, spawning ground, feeding ground, shelter for various marine biota, and abrasion protection from wave strikes. Pasir Tiga waters is one of the water bodies in Pasir Tiga, Tanjung Ria, Jayapura city, the Province of Papua is inhabited by a variety of marine biota, one of which is coral reef. Nevertheless, the area is remote from the human residence, fishermen often practice unfriendly fishing activities, so that most coral reef ecosystems are damaged. This study was aimed at knowing the percent cover of live corals and mortality index in Pasir Tiga waters, Tanjung Ria, Jayapura city. It was carried out in August to October 2018. There stations were selected based on the presence of coral reefs and data collections used Line Intercept Transect (LIT) method at the depth of 6 and 9 m with 25 m long transect line. Results found that coral reefs in Pasir Tiga waters have the lowest cover, 3.6%, in station 1, 8.08% in station 2, and the highest, 11.68% in station 3. The coral reefs in all 3 stations are damaged. The mortality index was 0.80 in station 1, 0.44 in station 2, and 0.01 in station 3.Key Words: Coral Cover; Coral’s Mortality Index; Line Intercept Transect; Pasir Tiga; Jayapura City

Abstract

Hamadi Fish Landing Base (Pengkalan Pendaratan Ikan; TPI Hamadi) is the largest in Papua Province. Most fishermen in TPI Hamadi are long line fishermen. Long line is a fishing gear used to catch pelagic and demersal fish. The purpose of this study is to determine the feasibility of analyzing the business from the financial aspect of the fishing business (long line) at the Hamadi Fish Auction Place (Tempat Pelelangan Ikan; TPI Hamadi) Jayapura City. Data collection methods in this study are the observation method, interview method, documentation method, data analysis related to the financial aspects of the business which include; NPV (Net Present Value), PP (Payback Period) and B/C Ratio (Benefit Cost Ratio). The technical aspects of catching include basic longline fishing gear, operating methods and catches. The results obtained are; The basic longline fishing gear consists of a main rope of 10,000 m long, 30 cm branch rope, swivel, 2,000 cork buoys, stone weights weighing 5-8 kg, and fishing hooks of 10,000 seeds. The operating method of basic longline fishing gear consists of setting, and hauling. The financials of the basic longline catching business at TPI Hamadi show that the fishing business is feasible. The feasibility of basic longline catching business can be seen with the NPV value of 7,154,663 (NPV> 0), IRR 24% (IRR > 19%), Payback Period is 2.28 (PP < 3 years) including the fast return category, and the B/C Ratio is 1,19 (B/C > 1), so it can be concluded that the basic longline fishery business is declared financially feasible. Abstract

Sedimentation can be one of the factors that limit coral life because it can cover coral polyps, in high numbers it can even cause coral death. The purpose of this study was to determine the rate of sedimentation in the coral reef ecosystem and to determine the condition of coral reef cover in the waters of Kampung Yakore. This research was carried out from January to May 2021. The method used in this study was to collect sediment in a sediment trap for 14 days and the LIT (Line Intercept Transect) method to observe the condition of live coral cover. Data were collected at 3 stations at a depth of 3 m and 5 m. The results showed that the sedimentation rate in the waters of Kampung Yakore was moderate to very heavy where the highest sedimentation rate was at station 3 with a depth of 5 m. The sedimentation rate ranged from 30.28 – 67.74 mg/cm²/day at a depth of 3 m. Meanwhile, at a depth of 5 m, the sedimentation rate ranged from 68.30 – 133.21 mg/cm²/day. This shows that the sedimentation rate in the waters of Kampung Yakore is at a very heavy impact level. It is suspected that the high sedimentation rate is caused by the time when data collection is carried out during the rainy season so that the river discharge is getting bigger and carrying sediment to the sea. The percentage of live coral cover in the waters of Kampung Yakore was classified as "moderate" to "good" with percentages ranging from 39.28% - 71.76% at a depth of 3 m and ranging from 30.7% - 56.12% at a depth of 5 m. The highest percentage of the cover was at station 2 with a depth of 3 m, which was 71.76%.Key Words: Sedimentation Rate; Coral Reef Ecosystem; Coral Cover; Yakore VIllage

Abstract

The abundance of plankton plays a very important role in determining the fertility of waters as a primary producer in waters. The abundance of plankton in water is generally related to the nutrient content in the water. This study aims to analyze the fertility level of Merauke sea waters based on the abundance of plankton and physical-chemical conditions in Merauke sea waters. Water samples were taken at 25 stations using water samples. showed that the abundance of plankton in Merauke seawater was high. The abundance of phytoplankton varied from 4,047,547 – 1,053.078 ind/m3/station. The dominating group is the Bacilliophyceae, the diversity index (H') is low <1, the uniformity is almost 0, the dominance index is low, while zooplankton is also classified as high with an abundance ranging from 5,500 – 460,281 ind/m3/ station Physical and chemical conditions of sea water such as temperature including homogeneous, namely between 25.950 – 27.580 C, low brightness 0 – 2 m, high turbidity 2.89 – 730 NTU, pH is homogeneous between 7.06 – 8.11, very high DO is between 8.00 – 9.55 mg/L . while the nutrient in the form of phosphate is quite high
