Abstract

Understanding the vulnerability of livelihoods is very important in identifying and developing alternative livelihoods for communities to achieve their welfare. Alternative livelihoods are intended so that people do not depend their livelihoods entirely on the use of natural resources. Thus, the exploitation pressure on natural resources, especially the coast and the sea can be minimized. The purpose of this study is to analyze the level of livelihood vulnerability of the people in Depapre Bay using the Livelihood Vulnerability Matrix method. The results of the analysis showed that the level of vulnerability of people's livelihoods is in the vulnerable category (2.44), where the variable value is still low in terms of disaster disruption, social networks, savings, means of production, production costs, and fulfillment of basic needs. Keywords: Vulnerability; Livelihood; Coastal Community; Exploitation Pressure; Natural Resources; Teluk Depapre; Papua

Abstract

This study aims to determine the diversity, distribution, and ecological index of coral fish from the Pomacentridae family in the coral reef ecosystem of Jayapura City. Reef fish observations were carried out in April 2020 at seven study sites. The fish observation was carried out at a depth of 3 to 5 m using the Underwater Visual Census method. Ecological indices were determined using PAST software (PAleontological Statistics) version 4.01, while the similarity index between study sites was determined using PRIMER 7 software. The results showed that the number of coral fish species of Pomacentridae family was 35 species with a total of 346 individual fish. The species distribution was very diverse and no fish species were found at all study sites. The diversity index ranges from 0.572 to 2.215 (low to moderate category), the evenness index ranges from 0.431 to 0.886 (medium to high category), and the dominance index ranges from 0.145 to 0.616 (low to moderate category). The diversity index at Base-G, Pulau Kayupulo, and Lampu Merah sites shows the fish community is classified as medium diversity with high evenness. Abstract

Sedimentation can be one of the factors that limit coral life because it can cover coral polyps, in high numbers it can even cause coral death. The purpose of this study was to determine the rate of sedimentation in the coral reef ecosystem and to determine the condition of coral reef cover in the waters of Kampung Yakore. This research was carried out from January to May 2021. The method used in this study was to collect sediment in a sediment trap for 14 days and the LIT (Line Intercept Transect) method to observe the condition of live coral cover. Data were collected at 3 stations at a depth of 3 m and 5 m. The results showed that the sedimentation rate in the waters of Kampung Yakore was moderate to very heavy where the highest sedimentation rate was at station 3 with a depth of 5 m. The sedimentation rate ranged from 30.28 – 67.74 mg/cm²/day at a depth of 3 m. Meanwhile, at a depth of 5 m, the sedimentation rate ranged from 68.30 – 133.21 mg/cm²/day. This shows that the sedimentation rate in the waters of Kampung Yakore is at a very heavy impact level. It is suspected that the high sedimentation rate is caused by the time when data collection is carried out during the rainy season so that the river discharge is getting bigger and carrying sediment to the sea. The percentage of live coral cover in the waters of Kampung Yakore was classified as "moderate" to "good" with percentages ranging from 39.28% - 71.76% at a depth of 3 m and ranging from 30.7% - 56.12% at a depth of 5 m. The highest percentage of the cover was at station 2 with a depth of 3 m, which was 71.76%.Key Words: Sedimentation Rate; Coral Reef Ecosystem; Coral Cover; Yakore VIllage

Abstract

Abstract

Coral reef ecosystems are one of the main ecosystems in coastal and marine areas which have a very large role, especially in supporting the fisheries and tourism sectors. The coastal waters of Harlen Kampung Tablasupa have a good coral reef ecosystem and have the potential to be utilized for improving people's welfare. Ironically, several locations have been damaged by fishing using blast fishing and tuba roots poison. Therefore, rehabilitation efforts that have been damaged are needed, one of which is coral transplantation. Coral transplantation is a technology to multiply colonies by utilizing the asexual reproduction of corals by fragmentation of a coral colony. Transplantation aims to accelerate the regeneration of corals that have been damaged. The method used is the Spider Method. This activity was carried out by the Center for the Study of Marine and Fisheries Resources, University of Cenderawasih, involving several partners with funding support from PT PLN (Persero) Unit Induk Wilayah Papua and Papua Barat through the PLN Care Program. The results showed that the Spider method was very successful with a 92% survival rate. The survival rate is thought to be due to the selection of the right location and the ability of the transplanted species to adapt to the surrounding aquatic environment.
