Abstract

This study aims to analyze the application and impact of the Suzuki method on children’s cognitive development in classical piano courses at Purwacaraka Music Studio in Surabaya, specifically at the Rungkut branch. This study employs a qualitative approach that emphasizes in-depth observation to understand a phenomenon, supplemented by observation, interviews, and documentation, focusing on the formal aspects of cognitive development and the learning materials used by children enrolled in classical piano courses. The five main aspects[i] applied in the Suzuki method for music education include teaching music reading, creating a pleasant practice environment for children, fostering the habit of listening to recordings, providing guidance through private lessons, and an educational system focused on talent development. These findings were obtained after the data were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. These findings were obtained after the data were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. To ensure the credibility of the research results, data validity was assessed using source and method triangulation. The application of the pedagogical system is influenced by several key factors, including student factors, musical instruments, playing techniques, and the concept of individuality derived from Dr. Pono Banoe’s “Music Class Method” theory. Cognitive development was examined based on Jean Piaget’s theory, covering conservation, decentring, classification, animism, series and transitivity, and reversibility. This study found that applying the Suzuki method enhances children’s cognitive development.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explain the process of creating and recording the song “Detroit” by the band The Flins Tone. This process will be discussed through an analysis of the production and recording processes, based on the theories of Arnold Schoenberg, Hepworth-Sawyer, and Golding. The research method used in this study is qualitative descriptive research through direct observation, structured interviews, and documentation. The data analysis techniques in this study include data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. After data collection, they were validated through source and technique triangulation. This study consists of two parts: first, the creative production process, which includes pre-production for the song “Detroit”—involving the development of a conceptual outline and an understanding of each member’s role; developing variations by refining the existing ideas to serve as a final guide; and combining practical exercises with spontaneous studio rehearsals to foster communication and improvisation among members; followed by the recording process, which involved recording all stages in accordance with the theme of the song “Detroit,” and post-production, which refined the audio from the recorded material to prepare it for distribution.

Abstract

This study aims to compare the sound systems used by Rajawali Audio and JL Musik at the Artes Squad Anniversary Festival. The process began with a description of the sound system setups, followed by an analysis of the results by both vendors. The data in this qualitative case study were analyzed by following a cycle of data collection, reduction, and verification of findings to arrive at accurate conclusions. Based on the analysis, it can be concluded that, in terms of technical sound setup, both vendors took a similar approach. The absence of an input source was the main distinguishing factor for JL Musik. Regarding audio quality, Rajawali Audio excelled at producing powerful low frequencies for maximum “horeg” effects. Meanwhile, JL Musik prioritizes clarity and midrange balance, though its subwoofer performance does not yet match Rajawali Audio's intensity.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine interpretations of the composition “Lagu Biasa” by R.A.J. Soedjasmin and to analyze Nurfauzi Krisna’s interpretation in his performance of the piece. Soedjasmin is a musical adaptation of Chairil Anwar’s poetry in the form of a serious song. This song uses an andantino tempo, varied dynamics, changes in meter, and key modulations to build emotional nuance. Nurfauzi Krisna’s interpretation demonstrates a good command of rhythm, tempo, and intonation, though dynamics and vocal timbre still need improvement.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the musical style and strategies of the Jazz Patrol community in preserving traditional Osing songs in Banyuwangi. The Jazz Patrol community is a music group focused on preserving local culture through an innovative musical approach that combines traditional musical elements—such as patrol, angklung, and suling—with modern instruments like guitar, bass, and keyboard, all within the jazz genre. This approach serves as a cultural strategy that can reintroduce Osing-language songs to the younger generation. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation. The results indicate that the Jazz Patrol’s musical style is collaborative and improvisational, while maintaining local character through the Osing language and the pentatonic scale characteristic of Banyuwangi. The strategies implemented by this community include planning creative programs, organizing performances, collaborating with national and international musicians, and using digital media for promotion and cultural education. Thus, Jazz Patrol not only serves as a platform for artistic expression but also acts as an agent of cultural preservation, adapting to changing times. This study is expected to serve as a reference for efforts to preserve other forms of traditional music in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the branding strategies implemented by the band The Flins Stone through the “The Flins Stone 19 Years Still Pop Punk Showcase” event and to examine their impact on the band’s continued existence. The study employs a descriptive qualitative approach using interviews, observation, documentation, and questionnaires. The results show that the branding strategy was realized through clear market segmentation, differentiation of the pop-punk identity, the personification of each band member, and a showcase experience that featured music, visuals, interaction, and gimmicks. These strategies proved effective in strengthening the band’s image, maintaining the loyalty of long-time fans, and attracting new audiences. Thus, the showcase served not only as a celebration of the band’s 19-year career but also as an effective way to expand the reach of the Indonesian pop-punk market.
