According to Hannah Arendt, human capacity to forgive and to make and keep a promise, can be a better solution for the inherent predicament of action than the more popular paradigm of control. Platonic cure for the triple predicament of action is to substitute ‘making for acting’. This dangerous substitution can be traced in the use of metaphors originated in the process of fabrication in the political arena. This leads to alienation, oppression, domination, violence in the course of Western history. The pluralities and equalities of voices indeed lead to uncertainty of the future, hence a lost sense of control, but Arendt believes the power inherent in the human capacity to make promises and to forgive as a better option than substituting ‘making for acting’. This article will retrace the Judeo-Christian roots of Arendt’s thought, evaluate her use of the sources, and appropriate her insights to get a better understanding of the political situation in Indonesia.

Since modern times, the nature of theology has experienced as an unnecessary separation between theoretical-doctrinal discipline or practical application discipline. The purpose of this article is to propose the nature of theology as application and draw its implication in the context of theological education and ecclesiastical ministry. By using the conceptual analysis method, the author analyzes and uses the view of John M. Frame which argues that theology should not be seen only as an abstract theoretical doctrine, or only teaches how to live, but theology should be viewed as life itself. The implication of theology as application in the context of theological education and ecclesiastical ministry shows a bounding and an involvement between seminary and church. By viewing theology as application, the goal is not only limited to theorizing, but also to be the doers of God’s words because there is a close relationship between what is known and what is done, and vice versa.

The Reformed theologian, Benyamin Fleming Intan, analyzed Christian theologians thinking in Indonesia and found out that Pancasila did not contradict with Christianity. In line with this, when the young Reformed theologian, Nathaniel Gray Sutanto assessed the relationship between Pancasila and Christianity. then he provided an epistemological framework that the existence of the Indonesian state and Pancasila had been allowed by sovereign of God. Based on their epistemological framework, I want to go over them by offering a new and more concrete way or approach in multireligious context, called comparative theology. For this reason, the author examines definition and development of comparative theology with the latest comparative theology books, then, the author also looks into the Bible and church history. That comparative theology has been carried out by biblical writers and figures in the church history even though theology comparative has not become a scientific discipline yet. I argue that comparative theology can be used in Indonesia with Reformed tradition because the nature of comparative theology is hospitable for religious harmony and still being faithful to the Bible testimony.

This paper will criticize one kind of approach taken by Sallie McFague on the concept of the Body of God to explain the relationship between humans and nature. This evaluation was carried out because the approach taken by McFague is an approach that seeks to revise Christian orthodoxy which is considered unfriendly to the environment and is not sufficient to answer the problem of the ecological crisis. Some of the revisions made by McFague are the story of the creation and incarnation of Christ. Through this paper, it will be evaluated whether the story of creation and incarnation needs to be revised to answer the problem of the ecological crisis.

This article is motivated by the anxiety to see how Reformed tradition seems less relevant or even irrelevant in Gereja Kristen Sumatera Bagian Selatan (GKSBS). This article thesis is a Reformed tradition, which is relevant to GKSBS, as it is placed in a “critical-appreciative dialogue with nglari and mandiri culture” and “in an authority dialogue with Holy Scripture”. To support the thesis, the writer “describe factual encounter” and “imagine critical appreciative dialogue” between Reformed tradition and Gereja Kristen Sumatera Bagian Selatan (GKSBS) nglari and mandiri culture, and then place them in authority dialogue with Holy Scripture. The results have found that there are meeting points and complementary potency between a boarder Reformed tradition and nglari culture eventhough the nglari culture defeats some Gereformeerd tradition aspects. The writer also found in many aspects, not only in Gereformeerd tradition, that affirms with mandiri culture each other, but also in a broader Reformed tradition which is able to critize the culture each other. However, both Reformed tradition and GKSBS culture still need to be reformed according to the Holy Scripture.

This paper’s aims to show that the ecumenical spirit in Eucharist is right, based on the Bible, church’s doctrine of Reformed tradition and Eastern Orthodox tradition. By conducting a literature study to compare the thoughts of two theologians from the two traditions, namely Michael Welker and Alexander Schmemann, this study has found that the Holy Communion unified the vertical dimension and the horizontal dimension which makes God’s people from all ages and places united as a holy and universal church, and with the presence of Christ in every Holy Communion.

This article is a comparative overview of the theology of religions according to the views of Lesslie Newbigin and Johan Herman Bavinck. Although these two missionaries are rooted in the tradition of Reformed theology, they both have different views in examining the theology of religions. Newbigin in analyzing religions tends to be negative so that Newbigin expresses an urgent urge to proclaim the gospel. Meanwhile, Bavinck tends to be positive in examining religions and does not provide an urgent encouragement in proclaiming the Gospel. At the end of this article, the author concludes that the views of each missionary figure should be embraced to obtain a more comprehensive and whole understanding in analyzing the theology of religions.

The Christian Trinity is a diversified form of monotheistic faith, since the apostolic faith is rooted in the Old Testament confession, to which Jesus adhered: “the Lord our God, the Lord is one”. Christianity never renounced monotheism, but build on that basis. Recently theologians (including Jürgen Moltmann) have been critical of Christian monotheism which has overshadowed trinitarianism from Thomas Aquinas onwards. It means that today many Christian believers are practical monotheists and the Trinity has little place in spirituality. But this is not the main challenge to Christian monotheism in the global world context of today
