Abstract

Lower back pain is a common health issue affecting many individuals worldwide, often leading to significant discomfort and reduced quality of life. Understanding patients' preferences for treatment options is crucial in providing adequate healthcare. This study analyzes the factors influencing patient preferences between Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and conventional medicine for treating lower back pain in Salatiga District, Sambas Regency. A quantitative approach using surveys and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was employed, gathering data from 50 patients who had utilized either TCM or conventional medicine. Results indicate that treatment effectiveness, economic factors, perceptions of treatment, accessibility, and continuity of care significantly influence patient choices. Treatment effectiveness emerged as the most critical factor, with patients opting for the most effective pain relief methods. Economic considerations, including treatment costs and insurance coverage, were vital. This study highlights the need for inclusive health policies that support access to TCM and conventional medicine, aiming to improve patient education and integrate these treatment options into the healthcare system.

Abstract

Cirebon oral literature, specifically tembung éntar, is an essential cultural resource that reflects societal values, particularly concerning gender roles. However, previous studies have not thoroughly examined how these expressions play out in ritual practices, highlighting a gap that this research seeks to fill. This study investigates the concept of gender found in tembung éntar and how it changes within the traditional ritual of Slametan Memitu. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach with semiotic analysis, 412 tembung éntar texts were analyzed. The data collection process involved documentation and analysis performed in four stages: gathering data, reducing it, presenting findings, and verifying the results. The findings showcase symbolic representations of gender roles in which tembung éntar indicates masculine and feminine qualities, including persistence, diligence, care, and obedience. The Slametan Memitu ritual transforms these symbolic meanings into cultural practices, illustrated by expressions such as “Asah, Asih, Asuh” and “Manek gunung temurub jurang,” which emphasize mutual support and resilience. This research offers a fresh perspective by connecting oral literature with ritual performance, stressing the cultural representation of gender roles. Upcoming studies could investigate similar transformations in different cultural settings.

Abstract

This study investigates the intricate relationship between accent, identity, and pedagogy in Nigerian English Language Teaching (ELT). Despite the growing recognition of Nigerian English (NigE) within global frameworks, Received Pronunciation (RP) remains the dominant model in educational settings, often marginalizing local accents. The primary aim of this research is to explore the implications of accent bias on teaching practices and student perceptions. Using a qualitative research design, data were collected through interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis across various secondary schools in Nigeria. The findings reveal significant tensions between the adherence to RP and the acceptance of NigE, with educators often feeling pressured to conform to foreign norms. Students exhibit linguistic insecurity tied to societal biases favoring RP while expressing pride in their local accents. The study concludes by advocating for curriculum reforms recognizing NigE as a legitimate variety, emphasizing intelligibility over accent conformity. Recommendations include revising teacher training programs to promote inclusive pedagogies that validate linguistic diversity. By embracing NigE, educators can empower students to communicate effectively while celebrating their cultural identities, bridging local and global linguistic contexts.

Abstract

Elections are the main basis for running a democratic system, and updating voter data is an important aspect to ensure the integrity and validity of the process. As a new innovation by the KPU (General Election Commissions) that utilizes information technology, namely E-Government, it is therefore necessary to analyze the effectiveness of using the E-Coklit application. Based on Budiani's theory of effectiveness, this research uses four main variables: accuracy of program targets, program socialization, program objectives, and program monitoring. The research method used was descriptive qualitative with interviews and observations as well as documentation from the agency as data collection techniques. The results showed that the E-Coklit application made it easier for Pantarlih (Voter Data Update Officer) to carry out voter data matching and research activities, with the results of more valid data accuracy and a centralized data system. The use of the E-Coklit application in Majalengka District has shown good results, but requires further improvement to achieve maximum effectiveness.
