Abstract

An observation concerning tiic making use of Red Palm Oil (RPO) as a source of B-caroten in cookies production was carried out. The formula was a modification of a research carried out by Rimbawan et al (1995). The analysis result of R-caroten content in the product are; cookies with maizcna as a natural substance with concentration of RPO 40%, 60% and 80% respectively are in amount of 9290 ng, 12360.25 /tg and 28503.4 ng; cookies with rice flour and conscntration of  RPO 40%, 60% and 80% respectively arc in amount of 8532 /tg, 23760 ftg and 29408 /tg per 100 gram successively. Average consumption of cookies as such much as 20 g/day increased vitamin A as amount 999.6 RK for cookies rice flour with consentration RPO 80% and 414,4 R E for cookies maizcna with consentraliun RPO 60%.

Abstract

Coffee seed has endocurp that is inipcrnicabic who water and Oj, because it contains com-plex of polysaccharide, hemicellulosc, fat and protein. This condition could prevent germi-nation. To overcome this problem, there are several alternatives available, one of them bypeeling endocarp and submerging in gibberellin hormone solvent. This experiment wasconducted in Breeding Laboratory, College of Agriculture, University of Riau. The designM a s Complete Randomized Varianged in factorial 2 factors. First factor is three levels ofgibberellin (0 ppm, 10 ppm and 20 ppni) and the second factor is 3 endocarp treatments(without peeling, 50 % of peeUng and 100 % of peeling). The results showed that 100 %peeling and submerging in gibberellin of 20 ppm could accelerate and increase germinationpercentage, howives cotyledon breaker, there is no significant difference among the inter-action of giberalin and peeling endocarp.

Abstract

The effect of natrium metabisulphide with different concentration and tlic blanchingtime on quality of dried red chili was carried out. Result showed that the difference concen-tration of natrium metabisulphide and the blanching time scpcratcly influence the content ofoleoresin and vitamin C, however they do not affect significantly of water content of driedred chili. Interaction of natrium metabisulphide and the blanching time influence the watercontent, vitamin C, oleoresin and colour of dried red chili. Concentration of 0 3 of natrium %metabisulphide and 5 minute blanching gave the best result.

Abstract

Very low level of Phosphorus (P) availability in lowland area may cause serious hidrance on soybeanproduction in Riau. Addition of P fertilizer to the soil is significant for accelerating soybean production,however there were very limited farmers which were wiling to fertilize their soybean due to limitedcapital and unavailable cultivars that is efficient in absorbing P from soil particles. Therefore, it isimportant to investigate the efficiency of P fertilizer by soybean cultivars (Glycine nuv: L . Merril).This experiment are intended to identify soybean cultivars that are responsive to P-Fertilizer from dieobservation on the growth and production of soybean and to investigate the efficiency of P-Fertilizerby soybean cultivars. The experiment has been conducted in the Field Station of Faculty of Agricul-ture, Riau University located at Pekanbaru, Riau. The materials consisting of 5 cultivars of soybean, is: Kipas Putih, Malabar, Willis, Argoimtlyo and Bromo. Had been planted in plots applied by fourlevels of P fertilizer. The levels of P fertilizer were 20 kg, 40 kg, 60 kg PO per hectare and control.The experiment were arranged in a randomized factorial block experiment with three replications. Ingeneral, addition of fertillizcrdid not influence crop growth significantly especially on vegetative diyweight, the percentage of filled pods, individual seed weight, and P absorption efficiency.The cultivarsdiffered significantly in response to P fertilizer aplication. Optimum efficiency of seed production wasfound for Kipas Putih and Bromo at the level of 40 Kg PO per hectare while in other cultivars, theoptimal, was reached when they where not fertilized by P fertilizer. Optimum absorption of P fertilizerwere detected on Kipas Putih and Bromo at the level of 40 kg PO, per hectare, while in othercultivars the optimum absorption efficiency was obtained when crops were not fertilized.

Abstract

Siak Regency is area for development ofmining industries. The objective of this researchis to asses the impact of industrial development on social and economic status of peopleliving around tliis industrial area, namely: population, income distribution, education, socialinstitutions, busines.s opportunities, and the companies attitudes toward people around theindustrial area. Data and information area collected through a survey by purposive sam-pling. The research results show that the development of industrial area in Siak has a sig-nificant impact on social and economic progress in the area, such as business opportunities,employment, and income distribution. The development has also created new centers ofeconomic growth, local markets and local transportation facilities. From observation, it isfound that companies in the area ha\e enough atfcnlion toward local people by providingthem working capital for small business, practical skills, education, clinic and other socialfacilities.

Abstract

The study on the innuence of altitude and season toward aphid population fluctuation inpotato plant. This research was carried out in Rimbo Data, Aia Butunibuak and Sukaraniiareas. Aphid identification was done in Laboratory of Agronomy Study Program, Faculty ofAgriculture, Andalas University, Padang, and in the Research Hall of Fruit Plant, Solok. Theaphid population fluctuation was observed by capturing the aphid flying by installing threetraps of Moerickc tray put in the potato plantation in each area. Treatment of this researchwas in the difference of position altitude of the capture area, viz, Rimbo Data (1,700 mDPL), Aia Batunibuak (1.350 m DPL), and Sukaranii (1.000 in DPL). The research resultshowed that the aphid population in the potato plantation was lower in the area of RimboData (1.700 m DPL) compared with the area of Aia Baturnbuak (1,350 m DPL) and Sukarami(1.000 m DPL). The period witliout aphid was only found in the area of Rimbo Data atOctober, and January, The type of dominant aphid in Rimbo Data was Macrosiphumeiiphorbiae, in Aia Baturnbuak and Sukaranii were Aphis fabae.
