Abstract

A survey on sago development in Riau Island Province had been conducted during May 2007 through PRA (Participatory Rural Apprasial). Primary data was collected from 20 farmers, 3 sago processing industries and 5 trader of sago mills, while secondary data was gathered from related institutions. The quantitative and qualitative data were analyzed using SWOT (strength, Weakness, Opportunity and Threat) Analysis. The analysis concludes that the strengths of sago industry development are: land suitability, farmer motivation, culture, and production continuity. The weakness of sago industry in Riau Island are: limited marketing acces and low processing technology adoption. Sago industry in Riau islands has great potential to be developed through strong government regulation and has high demand in the world market. While the threats are: The development of sago industry in other countries, trade monopoly of processed products, and lack of partnership systems. Strategic recommendation to develop sago industry in Riau Islands are: 1) Establishing land conservation and production, 2) Empowerment of farmer group for marketing and technology adoption, 3) Establishing stronger government regulation to develop sago industry and export, 4) Anticipating limited marketing and partnership system, as well as the improvement of agroindustry in other countries

Abstract

This research was conducted at experimental plot, Faculty of Agriculture Riua University from September 2007 to Januari 2008. This research aimed to know the influence of mycoriza application, type of phosphate, and interaction of both factor, and the best mycoriza dosage and phosphate type toward the growth of Jathropa curcas seed. This research was conducted by Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisted of 2 factor with 3 replication. The first factor was mycoriza application, and second factor was the application of some phosphate sources. The result of Various investigation Analysis was tested by Duncan’s New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) at 5% level. The parameters observed were plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, dry weight, root protrude ratio, and percentage of mycoriza. It may be concluded from the research that the interaction between natural phosphate of Huinan China with 10 g mycoriza/polybag improves the growth of Jathropa curcas seed.

Abstract

Utilization of arenga palm sugar in combination with coconut sugar in sweet soy sauce had been studied in this research. The purpose of this research was to find the best combination of arenga palm sugar and coconut sugar to make coconut water ketchup (sweet soy sauce). It was held in crop processing and Analysis Laboratory at Agricultural Faculty, Food Chemistry Laboratory at Fishery Faculty, and Organic Chemistry Laboratory at Engineering Faculty of Riau University. The research was done experimentally by using completely randomized design (CRD) with 5 treatment and 3 replication. The treatments were: KKA0 (0% arenga palm sugar, 100% coconut sugar), KKA1 (25% arenga palm sugar, 75% cocnut sugar), KKA2 (50% arenga palm sugar, 50% cocnut sugar), KKA3 (75% arenga palm sugar, 25% cocnut sugar), KKA4 (100% arenga palm sugar, 0% cocnut sugar), Chemical analysis obtained were the protein content, total dissolved solid, sucrose concentration, and viscosity. The utilization of arenga palm sugar and coconut sugar in making coconut water ketchup influenced the protein content, sucrose concentration, but it did not influence the total dissolved solid and viscosity. The KKA3 (75% palm sugar, 25% coconut sugar ) is the best combination to make coconut water ketchup because it met SNI 001-3543-1994, with protein content of 3,61% and total dissolved solid of 50,53%.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to determine the best of liquid complement fertilizer and chicken manure application in increasing Brassica juncea production. This research was carried out in Organic Agriculture Plot, Faculty of Agriculture, Riau University . The experiment used Completely Randomized Design with two factors. The first factor was liquid complement fertilizer which consists of 3 levels (without liquid complement fertilizer, Bayfolan and Gardena). The second factor was chicken manure, which consists of 4 levels (without chicken manure, 5 ton/ha, 10 ton/ha, and 15 ton/ha). The analysis of variance will be continued with Duncan New Multiple Range Test. The result of this research showed that the application of combined Bayfolan in 3 cc/l water with 15 ton/ha chicken manure influence all parameters measured which are height of plant, the number of leaf, leaf width, production of the plant, weight of the plant, chlorophyll analysis and plant growth rate.

Abstract

Developing horticultural in the peat land needs geographical information system to gain data about its potential. The study was conducted at Meranti District, Riau Province at 2008. The result of study indicated that fruit crops (mango, durian, rambutan, soursop, avocado, mangos teen, citrus, jackfruit, banana, star fruit, papaya, and pineapple had the S2 land suitability for shallow-middle peat (50-200 cm). Based on this result, Meranti district has potential as a central of tropical fruits. The distribution of tropical peat land in Meranti district is about 263.647 ha or 64% tropical peat land.

Abstract

Palm oil is potential to improve Indonesian economic, especially in Riau province because of land and climate suitability and the increasing demand of CPO. The purpose of this research was to find out the factors of palm oil supply in Riau Province and the effects of fluctuation of the factors. This research was conducted in Pekanbaru from Januari to September 2008. Research method was literature study using secondary data (1987-2006) which was analyzed by SAS 6.12 program. The factors of palm oil supply in Riau Province is the real price of CPO, real price of urea, palm oil plantation area, and productivity of palm oil. This research got F value of 2.283,68 for probability a=1%, R-square 0,9979 which show that the correlation between independent and dependent variable is strong. Adj R square of 0,9979 show that 99,79% of independent variable is explained by dependent variable but 0,21% is explained by other factors which are not included. Real price of CPO, palm oil plantation area and productivity of palm oil oil shows positive correlation effect with estimation of 2,10 (probability a=16%), 3,46 (probability a=1%), and 223.471 (probability a=1%). The real price of urea shows negative correlation effect with estimation of -52,62 (probability a=1%).

Abstract

Coconut oil was produced by using enzyme protease of latex from bird papaya fruit with concentration from 0,1% to 15%. Protease was gained from bird papaya fruit and protease effectivity was identified from some analysis parameters according to SNI No 01-3741-1995 for cooking oil and SNI No. 01-2902-1992 for coconut oil. Optimum concentration of protease recovery was found at 1,5%, 29% (v/v) oil number; 0,24% (w/w) water content; 0,1% (w/w) impurities content; 7,6% (w/w) iodine number; 250,5% saponification content; 1,1% peroxide number; 4.45% (w/w) free fatty acid. The coconut oil has fulfill the National-Atandard analysis (SNI).

Abstract

For cultivation of melon (Cucumis melo L.), farmers only keep one fruit per plant to maintain quality fruit. To improve productivity, one possible effort is by spraying gibberellins at melon in combination with increasing amount of fruit maintained for each plant. The aim of this study was to know the effect of gibbereline in improving sink capacities of melon when fruit amount is increased. Gibberelins was sprayed at concentration of 0, 30, 60, and 90 mg/l to melon crop with different fruit amount per plant (one, two and three fruit). The study indicated that for melon plant with more than one fruit per plant, gibberellins application was not able to maintain the fruit quality, because the fruit weights were still decreasing. Thus, gibberellins application was not able to improve the sink capacities if fruit amount per plant is increased. While for plant with only one fruit, spraying 60 and 90 mg/l gibberellins can improve the fruit weight, so gibberellins improves the sink capacities if only one fruit is maintained for each plant.
