Abstract

The discussion on the definition of thematic (maudu’i) interpretation or what is commonly called thematic interpretation is a product of interpretation that solves every existing problem. The periodization of the development of maudu’i interpretation is also an important thing that must be known and understood both among the academics of the interpretation of science and the general public. Especially among commentators, because by knowing the periodization, academics can find out the characteristics of the interpretation. There are still few articles that discuss the periodicity of maudu’i interpretations; therefore in this article, the author will discuss the development of maudu’i interpretations from time to time, where the forerunner of Maudu’i interpretations has existed since the time of the prophet. Still, Maudu’i interpretations that have been neatly arranged as new methodologies have been formed recently. Among the periods to be discussed are: Prophet Muhammad's Period, Classical/Mutaqaddimin Period (1-2 H / 6-7 AD), Medieval Period (3-9H/9-15M), and Modern-Contemporary Period (12th Century AD). 14H / 18-21 AD). What makes the difference in the development of maudu’i interpretation of the four phases is the methodology. More recently the science of interpretation is also growing, including maudu’i interpretation.

Abstract

This research focuses on the growing religious community in Bandung, namely Bandung Tattoo Council congregation, what kind of situation leads individuals to religion; that is the starting point of this study. This study aims to determine the motivation and religious expression of the Majelis Tato plural religious experience. This study used qualitative research methods. Data in this study were obtained through primary data sources coming from field information from administrators and members of the Majelis Tato and sourced from field information, from the surrounding community, and literature with documents, journals, academic research, articles, magazines, and books relating to the religious issues of the Majelis Tato congregation. Data collection techniques using observation and interviews. Data analysis with data collection, data reduction, data presentation, conclusion/verification. This study's results are the motivation of the Bandung Tattoo Council congregation, namely, experiencing the release of inner pressure so that it motivates them to join the Tattoo Council and have a religion (in the context of doing repentance). They feel that their life seems like that and feel the world makes them feel frustrated and makes them tired, so they think there is a need and urge to seek calm. As for the Tattoo Council congregation's religious experience, almost all of them depart from past behavior that they consider sinful to seek guidance through religion. Religious experience in deeds, namely, advice on reading and writing the Koran, guidance on worship practices, direction on memorizing Al-Qur'an, and personal recommendation.

Abstract

This study aims to discuss the steps of Maudu'i interpretation of the Qur'an. This method has steps in interpreting the Qur'an, and usually responds to the challenges of the times, is more practical, systematic, dynamic and easy to understand in its entirety by the general public. This method is relatively new and is considered actual in interpreting the Qur'an departing from a logical unity and interrelated with one another. The method used in this research is descriptive, a research method that seeks to analyze and describe something, such as existing conditions or relationships, developing opinions, and or ongoing processes. Based on this method, in this study, the author will attempt to reveal experts' understanding regarding the steps of maudu'i interpretation. From this theory, it can be seen that to get a complete understanding of the Qur'an according to a certain theme, we must take certain steps, starting from choosing or determining the topic of the Qur'an in a maudhu`i manner, collecting verses that relating to this problem, coherently compiling the verses according to the chronology of their descent, knowing the correlation (munasabah) of these verses in each letter, arranging the theme of discussion in an appropriate framework, completing the discussion and description with the hadith, and study the verses thematically and thoroughly.

Abstract

Living Quran in terminology means the Qur'an that lives on par with the term Qur'an in everyday life, namely the Qur'an that lives amid everyday life. The primary objectives of this research are 1) Knowing the essence of the content of Surat al-Mulk and Al-Waqi'ah, 2) Studying the correlation of Surat Al-Mulk and Surat Al-Waqi'ah with the concept of life, 3) Knowing the responses of the Jambu Islamic Boarding School students al Islamy against the habit of reading Surat Al-Mulk and Al-Waqi'ah. This study uses a qualitative approach. Data collection was carried out using interview, observation, and documentation instruments. The results of this study are as follows: First, the main points of Surah Al-Mulk consist of life, death, trials for humans, God's power in creating a multi-layered sky, God's command to pay attention to the universe, the threat of doom for people. Kafir, God's promise to the believers, God's warning to people who disobey Him. The contents of the letter Al-Waqiah tell about how the story happened. There is compensation for the believer and the disbeliever. As for fadhilah from Surah Al-Waqiah, among others, abundant sustenance, protection from harm, ease of death, and death will not fall into poverty. Second, based on interviews, the Kebon Jambu al-Islamy Islamic Boarding School students responded very well to the habit of reading Al-Mulk's letter like the dluha prayer and reading Al-Waqiah's letter like the evening prayer. As a result, the Kebon Jambu Islamic Boarding School seemed to get a blessing from reading the letter, as evidenced by the number of students and the increase in physical buildings in the pesantren environment. All of this is believed to be due to the blessing of reading Surah Al-Mulk and Surah Al-Waqiah. Finally, this study proved a correlation between reading Surah Al-Mulk and Al-Waqiah with the benefits of life.

Abstract

Artikel ini membahas tentang berbagai jenis tafsir Maudu'i, berbagai macam dan bentuk tafsir yang berkembang di masyarakat, sedangkan salah satu tafsir yang berkembang adalah tafsir Maudu'i. Tafsiran tematik dalam rujukan bahasa Arab ini disebut tafsir maudhû'i. Tafsir tematik dalam bahasa Arab disebut tafsir maudhû'i. Tafsir maudhû'i terdiri dari dua kata, yaitu kata tafsir dan kata maudhi. Kata tafsir termasuk dalam bentuk masdar yang berarti penjelasan, uraian, uraian. Kata maudhû'i berasal dari kata maudhû', isim maf'ûl dari fi'il madhi wadha'a yang memiliki berbagai arti, yaitu yang ditempatkan, disampaikan, ditempatkan, atau dibuat-buat, yang menjadi topik pembicaraan. Makna yang terakhir adalah tema atau topik yang relevan dengan konteks pembahasan disini. Secara harfiah tafsir maudhû'i dapat diterjemahkan dengan tafsir tematik, yaitu tafsir berdasarkan tema atau topik tertentu.

Abstract

The study of the Islamic caliphate is always interesting to discuss until now—either from a historical perspective, Islamic politics, or the interpretation of the Qur'an. Al-Qur'an as the holy book of Muslims, is believed to be eternal against all changes in time and place (sahih li kulli zaman wa makan) certainly gives signs about Islamic government (Khilafah Islamiyyah). This is clarified by the reading of the text of the Qur'an by the commentators, so that in this study it is expected to be able to conceptualize or construct the Khilafah Islamiyyah comprehensively in terms of various classical and contemporary commentaries. This study uses qualitative research methods, namely research that contains written data such as documents or other texts that are relevant to the topic of discussion, this written data is usually in the form of words or actions and not in the form of numbers (numeric). The collection of sources in this study was obtained using library research or book surveys. There are three steps in this technique. First, take an inventory of the verses about the Khilafah Islamiyyah. Second, reading, exploring, and collecting the interpretations of classical and contemporary commentators. Third, describe and analyze the concept of the Islamic Caliphate, so that comprehensive and holistic research findings or results can be obtained.

Abstract

Ulul albab is usually used as an academic term by those who use it as a motto or philosophy of movement both personally and institutionally. This term is repeated 16 times in the Qur'an, indicating that there is something special in it. This also shows how crucial ulul albab is in human life. Therefore, the study of ulul albab invites more profound attention, whether it is appropriate that ulul albab is categorized only to describe an intellectual character or not. This study uses a maudhuí interpretation approach, a thematic interpretation approach compiling verses with the same theme for further interpretation. Furthermore, this research raises a fundamental problem to answer how Al-Qurán describes the ulul albab and how is the relevance of the understanding of ulul albab with life. Based on the formulation of the problem, several answers were found that the ulul albab is the one who has a mind and uses it in its place. Humans who characterize the depth of thought, dhikr, and have high moral values. Another explanation is that ulul albab has the sharpness of reason and spiritual depth, whose belief is firm in exercising faith in Allah which is manifested in religious ritual activities in the aspect of worship and those who do not forget to pray to Allah. In another aspect, it is described as a person who thinks about the universe. It ends in the element of belief and commitment to always care for nature and the environment, and society.

Abstract

The Qur'an, as a revelation revealed to the Prophet Muhammad SAW., has various types of high-value science, so that many researchers want to uncover the contents of the Qur'an. Departing from this, the purpose of writing this article is to find out the history of the emergence of maudu’i interpretation. The method used in writing this article uses library research by collecting primary and secondary data. The results of this article show that the history and factors behind the emergence of maudu’i interpretations are due to a lack of concern in the past to interpret the Qur'an thematically. Then along with the development of the times, it is necessary to pay attention to analyzing the Qur'an with specific topics as a form of an answer to the challenges of the times.

Abstract

Kitab Al-Tafsir wa’l-Mufassirun by Dr. Muhammad Husayn al-Dhahabi is an important work in tafsir which offers substantive analysis on the foundational history and tradition of tafsir. It analyzed certain major patterns of tafsir and comprehensively surveyed early development of its science, method, and character of classical and contemporary work in defining and analyzing the Quranic text. The work also highlights the classical impact of tafsir in the development of some unprecedented work in the tradition of tafsir. The major contribution of this work is to highlight certain un-reknown and un-discovery work of tafsir which was developed in the declining era of Islam. The principal idea is to compare various style and method of tafsir including the method of ijtima‘i, sufi, haraki, shi‘i, ra’yi, athari, ‘ilmi, mazhabi, adabi and ijtihadi. This paper will discuss the contribution of Dr. Muhammad Husayn al-Dhahabi in producing his monumental work, Al-Tafsir wa’l-Mufassirun and its ramification and reverberating impact in contemporary discourse of tafsir.

Abstract

Conelly and Smith build on a big problem in this book about the difficulty of building and protecting the environment. It is due to many underlying factors. Among them is the human factor who does not have the awareness to protect the environment and nature. This is answered and solved by the author to protect the environment in the next section. At least the author divides the environment into two approaches, namely the political approach and the conventional approach. Politically, the environment must be recognized as a resource on earth that must be protected, because wealth has limitations. Politically too, humans must build a shared awareness by creating a harmonious relationship between humans and nature. This cooperative relationship is framed in ethical understanding between humans and other creatures such as animals, plants, earth, sea, sun, and the like.
