Abstract

The presence of the Holy Spirit in Christian ministry, especially in the context of anointed preaching, has a profound and transformational role. This study aims to explore how the Holy Spirit influences the quality and effectiveness of preaching in the context of the contemporary church. Through a descriptive qualitative approach, this study examines the perceptions and experiences of preachers and congregations regarding the anointing of the Holy Spirit in preaching. The results show that the anointing of the Holy Spirit strengthens the power of the proclamation of God's Word, increases the understanding and acceptance of the congregation, and brings about significant spiritual change. This study also identifies the variability of the anointing experience, which is influenced by the preacher's personal factors, spiritual preparation, and dependence on the Holy Spirit. In conclusion, this study confirms that the anointing of the Holy Spirit is a critical factor in effective preaching ministry, which requires full dependence on divine power to influence and change the lives of the congregation. Through anointed preaching, the church can realize living and powerful teaching, which influences and shapes Christians to become more mature in faith and love.

Abstract

Preaching faith in the digital age faces new challenges, especially in reaching out to Generation Z who live amid a culture of pluralism, moral relativism, and digital connectedness. This study aims to examine the theological meaning of James 2:18 in the context of preaching the Christian faith to a Gen Z group that is known for its digital, plural characteristics, and search for authentic spirituality. Using qualitative methods based on literature review and a historical-critical approach, this study interprets the Greek text grammatically and contextually to highlight the relationship between faith and deeds. The results showed that faith that is not realized in concrete actions does not have Effective Preaching power for Gen Z in contrast to previous studies that emphasized digital strategies or message delivery, this study focused on the integration of faith and action as authentic forms of preaching. This study concludes that the proclamation of faith should be voiced through real-life evidence and relational, not just through words or digital media alone. The main contribution of the study is a new theological framework that underlines the importance of the actualization of faith and social practice as contextual and transformative preaching for today's generation. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the dynamics of the Holy Spirit’s role in evangelism through a biblical pneumatological approach. The method employed is qualitative descriptive with a literature study of biblical texts and relevant theological sources. The findings reveal that the Holy Spirit is the primary agent in evangelism, working comprehensively in three phases: pre-evangelism, the evangelistic process, and post-evangelism. In the pre-evangelism phase, the Holy Spirit prepares human hearts and initiates divine mission. During the evangelistic process, the Spirit guides evangelists, grants boldness, and convicts individuals of sin. In the post-evangelism phase, the Spirit seals believers, performs regeneration, and guides spiritual growth. These findings affirm that the effectiveness of evangelism does not rely on human ability but on the sovereignty of the Holy Spirit’s work. This study contributes to a more holistic pneumatological framework of mission theology.

Abstract

Character formation of children in orphanages often faces various challenges, particularly the absence of family figures, experiences of loss, and the need for continuous spiritual guidance. In practice, child care services tend to focus on meeting physical needs and providing formal education, while theological and spiritual aspects have not been optimally utilized as the foundation for character formation. This condition indicates the need for a formative approach rooted in Christian theology, especially the theology of love and spiritual formation. This study aims to analyze the role of the theology of love and spiritual formation as the foundation for character development of children at Batu Penjuru Orphanage, Yogyakarta. This study employs a qualitative method with a descriptive-analytical approach through observation, and interviews with caregivers. The findings reveal that the implementation of the theology of love through accepting relationships, pastoral care, and caregivers’ role modeling, as well as spiritual formation through prayer, worship, biblical teaching, and the habituation of Christian values, contributes to the development of children’s character, including love, responsibility, discipline, and social sensitivity. In conclusion, the theology of love and spiritual formation serve as effective and relevant foundations for character formation in orphanage contexts. The implications of this study emphasize the importance of consistently integrating the theology of love and spiritual formation into child development models in order to cultivate Christian character marked by faith, integrity, and spiritual resilience. Keywords: theology of love; spiritual formation; character formation; orphanage.

Abstract

The concept of the “self-governing church” has become a key topic in contemporary theology, especially as the church faces the challenges of globalization, financial dependence, and changes in mission. The Book of Philippians, known as the Apostle Paul’s “Letter of Joy,” contains theological values relevant to building a mature, self-governing, and missional church. Amid shifting mission paradigms and global economic challenges, the church often finds itself trapped in dependency or isolation. The Book of Philippians offers a model of a mature local church, financially and structurally self-reliant, yet still remaining within apostolic relationships and a global mission network. This study aims to: first, examine the concept of an autonomous church based on the theological exegesis of the Book of Philippians; second, identify Paul’s ecclesiological principles relevant to the global church today; third, formulate practical applications for the development of an autonomous church that remains faithful to orthodoxy and global mission. Using a qualitative-descriptive approach and biblical exegesis, this study found that autonomy in the Book of Philippians does not refer to absolute autonomy, but rather to Christ-centered interdependence. The results of the study indicate that the church in Philippi exhibits the characteristics of a healthy self-governing church: active financial participation, structured local leadership, global missionary solidarity, Christological unity, and a mature spirituality of suffering. The church in Philippi does not.

Abstract

This study aims to provide an exegetical interpretation of Hosea 2 to explore patterns of relational restoration that can be applied in the context of Christian marriages facing a crisis of infidelity. It employs a historical-grammatical method by analyzing the historical context, literary structure, and the meaning of key words and phrases in the Hebrew text. The findings indicate that Hosea 2 contains five principles of relational restoration: steadfast love amidst betrayal, active steps to prevent further damage, honest emotional communication, a willingness to accept one’s partner fully, and a commitment to continuously rebuild the relationship. These five principles demonstrate a holistic pattern of restoration, beginning with rebuke and culminating in a renewed commitment to the relationship. Thus, this study offers a biblical-theological framework that can serve as a foundation for pastoral counseling in addressing crises of infidelity within Christian marriages.

Abstract

The development of technology and information has caused disruption to the lives of Christian students. Behind the positive impacts of that development, negative influences also emerged, leading students' lives toward individualism, a lack of empathy, and a fragile mentality. This poses a significant challenge for contemporary Christian education in its efforts to achieve its goal of shaping resilient and compassionate students. Christian education requires the right learning approaches and strategies to address this situation. The Transformative Pedagogical approach implemented in Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is the best alternative for Christian Education in the current context. This research was conducted using a literature review, which involved a theoretical analysis of the thoughts of experts to analyze and draw conclusions. This research found that by integrating transformative pedagogical approaches into SEL learning, students have the potential to be successfully guided to fully understand themselves, others, and God. This actively leads them to become resilient individuals, strong in facing life's dynamics, and compassionate.

Abstract

Armed conflict and social violence remain persistent throughout human history, posing complex moral challenges for Christian theology. In this context, dogmatic theology plays a crucial role in reinterpreting the teachings of the Christian faith regarding the morality of war and the pursuit of peace. This article aims to analyze the moral status of war within the perspective of Catholic theology and to explore the possibilities for peacebuilding in situations of conflicting interests. This study employs a qualitative literature-based approach, analyzing Church documents, works of systematic theology, and articles from relevant national and international theological journals. The findings indicate that the Christian theological tradition acknowledges the legitimacy of self-defense under certain circumstances through the concept of Just War Theory, while consistently affirming that peace remains the ultimate goal of human life and the moral vocation of the Church. In Catholic theology, peace is understood not merely as the absence of war, but as a process of reconciliation that involves social justice, the restoration of relationships, and respect for the dignity of every person created in the image of God. In the context of pluralistic societies such as Indonesia, peacebuilding also requires a dialogical approach that promotes interreligious cooperation, social solidarity, and a shared commitment to justice and the common good.
