Pensa E-Jurnal : Pendidikan Sains focused on science education research (SER), especially innovation in the science curriculum, development of local instructional theories, implementation of innovative learning models on science education, and also examines secondary, tertiary, and informal learning as they relate to science education. One of the attempts that science as the subject should address is to promote students’ scientific literacy by embedding the nature of science (NOS) into science textbooks as one of the primary resources in learning. This research aimed to describe the NOS aspects presented within the three science textbooks in grade 9. This study used a descriptive research method to describe the ten aspects of NOS adopted from Abd-El-Khalick et al. (2008). Data were collected by quoting every sentence or paragraph regarding each targeted NOS aspect and later were grouped and analyzed descriptively to describe the completeness of ten aspects of NOS. Analyses showed that NOS indicators did not completely address the targeted NOS aspects within the three science textbooks. Textbook A addressed seven out of ten aspects of NOS, the highest among the other two, whereas Textbook B and Textbook C did only five and six. NOS aspects most addressed within the three textbooks were empirical, scientific theories, and social and cultural embeddedness of science. Some of the targeted NOS aspects, inferential, creative, and scientific methods, were not addressed within the three science textbooks. The inadequacy of targeted NOS aspects within the textbooks was believed to be related to authors’ and publishers’ interests regarding NOS. The inadequacy of targeted NOS aspects would lead to insufficient NOS learning in the classroom, and science literacy as the primary goal in science learning would be difficult to achieve.

The lack of role in the use of learning media that can be used in learning that is abstract to become more concrete is one of the reasons for carrying out this research. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the application of call cards on student learning outcomes in the material of the human digestive system. The research design used was One-Group Pre-test-Post-test Design. The research was conducted in class VIII C of SMP Negeri 1 Pacet with a total of 32 students. The data collection instruments in this study used observation sheets, tests, and questionnaires. Science learning outcomes data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical analysis techniques, namely normality test, t-test, and description of N-gain. The results showed that the average percentage of student activity was 81.5% having an average of 61% with very good criteria. The acquisition of t-test, Sig. (2-tailed) <0.05, which means that there is a significant difference in student learning outcomes between before and after the call cards game is applied, and the average N-gain is 0.60, besides that students respond positive for 83.11% with a very good category for the application of call cards on the material of the human digestive system. Thus, call cards game media can be an alternative in improving science learning outcomes better.

The purpose of this study was to determine the implementation and effectiveness of the discovery learning model in improving learning outcomes on digestive system material. The subjects of this research were 26 students of class VIII-G SMPN 54 Surabaya. This research method is descriptive quantitative research design with one group pretest posttest design. The instruments used were pretest and posttest sheets each with 12 multiple choice questions and discovery learning implementation sheets. The results of the implementation of discovery learning obtained a very good category in 4 modes. The results of the homogeneity test state that the data are homogeneous with a significance level of 0.06. In the normality test, the data is normally distributed with a significance level of 0.39. The dependent t-test shows alpha 0.00 so that it is known that there is a significant difference between the pretest-posttest learning outcomes. The result of the implementation discovery learning is effective in improving learning outcomes on digestive system material.

This study aimed to describe the effectiveness application model discovery learning -based mobile virtual laboratory on simple aircraft material to improving student’s basic science process skills, learning implementation and student response questionnaires. The type of research was pre-experimental with one group pretest posttest as the design. The research subjects were students of grade VIII I SMPN 16 Surabaya totaling 39 students. The research instruments were in the form of test sheets for basic science process skills, observation sheets for the implementation of discovery learning, and student response questionnaire sheets. Data collection techniques were carried out using test, observation, and questionnaire methods. The data analysis technique uses quantitative descriptive. The implementation of learning both the first and second meetings obtained percentage of 93.75%-100% with each meeting included very good category. There is increase in basic science process skills in terms of the average pretest and posttest results of 45.38 to 83.21 with classical completeness on the posttest 94.87% and the acquisition N-gain score of 0.70 which included in the medium category. In the student response questionnaire for all statement items including very good category of the average student response answers are in the interval above 3.41 to 4.21 from the highest scale worth 5. The conclusion is learning with the model discovery learning based on mobile virtual laboratory can improve basic science process skills and get a positive response from students.

This research aimed to describe the implementation of the learning process, improved learning outcomes and student responses to the use of interactive e-modules in heat material in learning. This study is a pre-experiments study, using one group pretest-posttest design. The study was conducted on 32 students from class VII-H SMPN 5 Gresik. Sample selection uses random sampling techniques. Data collection methods used in the form of observations, tests and questionnaires. The results of the data collection will be analyzed using mode values to measure learning performance, normality tests and paired t-tests to measure the significance of improved learning outcomes, calculate N-Gain scores, and calculate percentage averages in each aspect of the questionnaire to measure students' response to learning. The results of this study obtained that, the learning process has been carried out in a very good category. Student activity increased at the second meeting, which was 75% with a high category. Obtained the average N-gain value of students in one class of 0.65, so that it can be expressed in the moderate category. Learning outcomes experienced a significant increase, as they gained a value significance of 0,000<0.05. Judging from the results of the response, 96.35% of students gave a positive response to the learning process. The conclusion of this study is that the use of interactive e-modules on heat material can improve learning outcomes for students of class VII-H SMPN 5 Gresik.

Science process skills are competencies that students can build their own concepts learned. The purpose of this study was to analyze the use of guided inquiry learning models to improve science process skills for science subjects in junior high school students. This research uses qualitative research, descriptive method. The research sample was 30 junior high school students and data collection was carried out by observation, interviews, and distributing questionnaires. The results showed that the use of guided inquiry learning in science learning was able to improve students' science process skills. This can be seen in the guided inquiry learning model which is a student-centered learning process. With this, students independently seek solutions to a problem with the supervision of the teacher. The results of the questionnaire analysis showed that there was an increase in the percentage of indicators of students' science process skills. The average increase experienced is from 49.33% to 76.66%. The improvement of science process skills in students can be formed and developed with habits that are carried out continuously in the learning process, in order to improve scientific understanding.

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui keefektifan komik edukasi dalam meningkatan pemahaman konsep siswa pada materi energi terbarukan. Jenis penelitian dilakukan adalah penelitian kuantitatif dengan desain penelitian Intack Group Comparison. Penelitian dilakukan di SMPN 2 Perak dengan 2 kelas sebagai sampel penelitian, kelas kontrol sebagai VII-B dan kelas eksperimen sebagai kelas VII-A. Metode test yang diberikan sebelum dan sesudah penerapan komik dalam pembelajaran digunakan sebagai teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini. Data nilai pre-test dan post-test kemudian dianalisis untuk mendapatkan peningkatan pemahaman konsep siswa. Pada hasil uji-t menunjukkan kelas eksperimen memiliki nilai lebih tinggi dibandingkan kelas kontrol. Hal ini menunjukkan terdapat peningkatan selama pembelajaran, dengan kelas eksperimen yang lebih baik dari kelas kontrol. Pada nilai n-gain kelas kontrol sebesar 0,11 dan kelas eksperimen sebesar 0,86, hal ini membuat kelas eksperimen lebih tinggi daripada kelas kontrol dalam hal pemahaman konsep siswa. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa peningkatan pemahaman konsep siswa dengan menggunakan komik sangat efektif.

This research was conducted to determine the effect of the application of guided inquiry-based students’ worksheets in practicing critical thinking skills on water pollution material. The type of research used is pre-experimental with one group pretest posttest design method. The research instrument used was a pretest posttest sheet, and a questionnaire. The subjects of this research were students of VII-A of SMPN 1 Deket Lamongan with a total of 29 students. The results in this study were based on an increase in the pretest posttest score. The average score of n-gain pretest posttest is 0,7 with moderate criteria. Increasing the percentage of critical thinking indicator, analyzing arguments from 25% to 73% with sufficient criteria, observing and writing down the result from 72% to 92% with very good criteria, making further explanations from 29% to 67% with sufficient criteria, and concluding from 14% to 75% with sufficient criteria. The average result of the percentage of completeness is 77% in the goog category and the average increase in the percentage of completeness of the critical thinking indicator gets a score of 2 with high criteria and students response questionnaires obtained result of 78% in the strong category. Thus, guided inquiry-based worksheets can train students critical thinking skills.

The purpose of this study was to find out how the science teacher at MTs Negeri 1 Sidoarjo used discovery learning, constraints and students’ inductive and deductive thinking skills in the implementation of online discovery learning. This research used case study method. The subjects in this study were one science teacher and 15 students from class IX-C MTs Negeri 1 Sidoarjo, which used discovery learning during online learning. This study was focused on 3 topics: plant breeding, magnetism, and food biotechnology. Instruments were used in this study were guidelines for teacher and student interview, checklist instruments for learning plans, student response questionnaires and student inductive and deductive questions. Document analysis techniques, semi-structured interviews, surveys, and tests for students’ inductive and deductive thinking skills were used in this study, and data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The result of this study indicates that: (1) The learning plans made by the teacher on three topics reached a percentage of 100% because all stages of discovery learning have been included in lesson plans; (2) The implementation of discovery learning on three topics studied reached a percentage 61%, which indicates that it has not been implemented optimally because there were discovery learning stages that were not carried out during learning, such as problem statement, verification, and generalization stages; (3) The students’ inductive thinking test result reached 64%, while deductive thinking test result reached 72%. Because lack test results were that application of the discovery learning has not been optimal which could affect the quality of student learning.

This research aimed to describe three important things in learning, namely implementation of learning, student process skills, and student response after participating in learning with guided inquiry methods using PhET on dynamic electrical materials. This research method uses pre-experimental with one group pretest and posttest design with research subjects are 14 students of class IX-B Jati Agung Waru Junior High School. Data obtained by observation, tests, and questionnaires method are then analyzed in quantitative descriptions. The resultssshowed that the percentage of learning effectiveness of 96.22 during 2 meetings was said to be an excellent and very practical category that was getting more than 90%. Science process skills gained a total N-Gain of 0.82 which is high in category and effectively having increased. Students responded by 90.15 is categorized as excellent response. Basedoon theedescription above, ittcan beeconcluded that learning with guided inquiry methods that using PhET can improve the skills of science processes in dynamic electrical materials.
