Abstract

Communities surrounding geothermal operational areas continue to face challenges related to agricultural productivity, post-harvest losses, dependence on chemical inputs, limited utilization of organic waste, and vulnerability to climate change. This study aims to analyze the contribution of the KANYAAH Program as a community empowerment model that integrates direct geothermal utilization with circular economy principles to improve productivity, environmental sustainability, economic resilience, and community well-being. The research employed a qualitative descriptive approach using observations, in-depth interviews, documentation studies, and program performance analysis. The findings indicate that the program successfully transformed geothermal energy into an enabling resource for organic fertilizer production, sustainable farming, food processing, and aquaculture through four integrated sub-programs: Geothermal Organic Fertilizer, Geothermal Farming, geothermal foods, and Geothermal Fishery. This integrated model increased production efficiency, optimized organic and non-hazardous waste utilization, strengthened local economic activities, reduced environmental impacts, and enhanced community capacity and welfare. The novelty of this study lies in the development of an integrated community empowerment framework that combines geothermal direct use technology with a circular economy approach, demonstrating that renewable energy can serve not only as an energy source but also as a catalyst for sustainable rural development.

Abstract

Geothermal operations generate brine as a secondary product, while agrarian communities around the PGE Karaha Area face limited fertilizer access, rising input costs, declining soil quality, and weak farmer regeneration. This study analyzes COMBINE (Compost Brine) as a circular-economy community empowerment model that converts geothermal brine, wild grass, coffee husks, and sheep manure into mineral-enriched organic fertilizer. A descriptive case-study approach was applied using social-mapping documents, field observations, focus group discussions, interviews, community satisfaction surveys, laboratory testing, demonstration plots, monitoring records, and environmental impact studies. The analysis follows an input–process–output–outcome–impact framework. The findings show that COMBINE integrates material valorization with co-production among the company, university, farmer groups, village governments, and young farmers. The program produced a patented fertilizer, standardized procedures, community-based production, improved crop performance, lower fertilizer expenditure, high community acceptance, youth participation, and measurable environmental benefits. Its novelty lies in linking direct-use geothermal innovation with knowledge transfer and local institutional strengthening. Long-term replication requires location-specific quality testing, soil-based application, business recording, and adaptive multi-stakeholder governance

Abstract

Many diversities of  HIV/AIDS prevention and reproductive health programs remain largely lacking in comprehensiveness and rarely reach vulnerable groups, particularly deaf individuals. This research aims to examine the approach and implementation praxis of the PERINTIS (Pemberdayaan Inklusi Teman Istimewa) Program, initiated by PT Pertamina Patra Niaga Refinery Unit Balongan, in providing inclusive sexual education in Indramayu Regency. This study employs a qualitative approach with a case study design to observe the implementation of the company's Corporate Social Responsibility program. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and reviews of internal documents. The results of this study reveal three main findings. First, there is a paradigm shift from a Charity Model to a Rights-Based Model, wherein deaf individuals are recognized as equals with the same rights to sexual health education. Second, inclusive sexual education manifests a learning process that creates an egalitarian space regardless of background, fosters multi-stakeholder synergy, and shapes a more tolerant society. Third, the program yields positive impacts on both deaf individuals and the general public, namely by opening access to sexual education resources, strengthening social interactions, combating social stigma against the deaf community and People Living with HIV/AIDS, and increasing the participation of all involved parties.

Abstract

The Tebing Tinggi Okura sub-district in Pekanbaru faces a dual burden of Siak riverbank erosion, roughly four hectares of critical land, and unmanaged palm oil solid waste, compounded by declining fishing income and weak community institutions. In response, PT PLN Nusantara Power's Unit Pembangkitan (UP) Tenayan developed the Dewantara Program, a radical social innovation that converts the company's coal combustion residue (Fly Ash and Bottom Ash/FABA) into B-Block, a mangrove-planting technology that raised rehabilitation success from approximately 30 % under conventional bamboo/timber methods to about 90 %. The program integrates three pillars, community participation, FABA utilization, and the company's core competence, and is delivered through three interconnected sub-programs: the Taman Bunga Impian Okura ecotourism park, biofloc tilapia farming, and earthworm cultivation, involving the Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis), the Siak River Care Youth Group (KPPS), and the Setukul Indah Jaya Fishermen Group (SIJ). This article documents the empowerment stages, from initiation and capacity building to physical-ecological construction and institutional mentoring and analyzes the outcomes using a Sustainability Compass framework covering social, economic, environmental, and wellbeing dimensions. Findings show that critical land has been restored into productive green space, new household income streams have emerged, and local institutions have been strengthened, demonstrating how industrial by-products can be redirected into community-based ecological and economic value.

Abstract

Prabumulih City, known as the Pineapple City with a cultivation area of 18,110 hectares, generates a vast amount of pineapple leaf waste. Koperasi MIWA Pineapple, in collaboration with PT Pertamina Gas and PT Serat Nanas Indonesia, initiated a community empowerment program focused on downstreaming pineapple leaf waste into eco-friendly raw materials. This program aims to implement circular economy principles by transforming agricultural waste into high-value cotton staple fibers. The method employed includes community-based training, technical assistance, and the provision of production machinery. The results show that the cooperative successfully processes agricultural waste into high-quality cotton fiber suitable for eco-friendly textiles, automotive parts, and defense industries. Each day, the processing of 500 kg of pineapple leaves yields 12.25 kg of high-quality cotton staple fiber, achieving zero-waste through the conversion of extraction byproducts into animal feed. This initiative has significantly improved the local economy and positioned Prabumulih as a potential pioneer of green industrial materials

Abstract

Waste management remains one of the major challenges in achieving sustainable development, particularly in rural areas where production activities rely on local resources. Bamboo waste and batik wastewater that are not properly managed may contribute to environmental problems; however, these waste streams also have the potential to be transformed into valuable resources with economic benefits. This study aims to analyze the implementation of a social innovation-based circular economy model through the integration of bamboo waste and batik wastewater management in the Rumah Kreatif Boek Khaman Program, Lubuk Raman Village, Muara Enim Regency, Indonesia. This study employed a mixed-methods approach with a descriptive case study design. Data were collected through observations, interviews, Focus Group Discussions (FGD), Participatory Assessment, program documentation, and environmental and social evaluation data. The results demonstrate that the program successfully established a community-based circular economy system by converting bamboo waste through pyrolysis technology into biobachar, which was subsequently utilized as a filtration medium in a Hybrid Constructed Wetland (HCW) system for batik wastewater treatment. The implementation of this program generated measurable environmental improvements, including reductions in Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) by 56.2%, Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) by 50%, and turbidity by 95%, as well as water savings of 28.6 m³/year. Furthermore, the program strengthened community capacity through the integration of three main community groups involving 47 active members and contributed to increased community income. The findings indicate that the integration of social innovation and circular economy principles can establish a waste management system that not only supports environmental improvement but also promotes community empowerment and local economic sustainability. The Rumah Kreatif Boek Khaman Program demonstrates the potential of community-based circular economy approaches in transforming local waste challenges into opportunities for sustainable development.

Abstract

Stunting is a multidimensional public health problem influenced by nutritional, health, and household socioeconomic factors. Addressing stunting requires the involvement of various stakeholders, including the private sector through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). This study aims to analyze the contribution of the Community Involvement and Development Program (CID) of PT Pertamina EP Pangkalan Susu Field to stunting reduction through community empowerment and to identify the mechanisms of change resulting from the integration of health interventions, food security, and local institutional strengthening. The study employed a qualitative case study approach. Data were obtained through documentation of program reports from 2024–2025, Posyandu data, stunting monitoring records, and interviews with community health cadres, healthcare workers, local government representatives, and program beneficiaries. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The findings demonstrate a transformation of CSR from philanthropy toward community empowerment through strengthening more than 140 Posyandu cadres, nutrition education, assistance for pregnant women, basic health services, and the integration of the silvofishery-based PALUH ASRI program. This integration improved access to protein, household food security, community income, and health-related behaviors. Stunting prevalence decreased from 10% to 6%, with 100% of cadres receiving education. The study develops the Integrated Community-Based Stunting Reduction model, emphasizing the synergy of health institutions, nutrition literacy, food security, and economic empowerment to support SDGs 2, 3, 8, 14, and 17.

Abstract

Aceh Tamiang Regency is an area highly prone to recurrent flooding, which exacerbates the vulnerability of persons with disabilities in disaster management. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Inclusive Disaster Management Program as a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy of Pertamina EP Rantau Field in strengthening the capacity of persons with disabilities and fostering inclusive community resilience. The study employed a qualitative case study approach using in-depth interviews, observations, documentation, and literature review as data collection methods. Data were analyzed thematically using the Human Rights-Based Approach (HRBA) as the analytical framework, encompassing the principles of participation, accountability, equality and non-discrimination, empowerment, and legality. The findings reveal that the Inclusive Disaster Management Program successfully transformed persons with disabilities into members of the DIGDAYA Task Force, enabling them to play active roles in the 2025 Aceh Tamiang flood response, including emergency response, early recovery, and social recovery. The program enhanced their capacity, leadership, and social participation while strengthening multi-stakeholder collaboration and inclusive disaster governance. This study demonstrates that an empowerment-based CSR strategy can foster inclusive community resilience by developing local capacities and strengthening the leadership of persons with disabilities within community-based disaster management systems.
