Abstract

This article explores the intricate relationship between culture and the contemporary status of women in Indonesia, reflecting on how traditional values interact with modern societal changes. In recent decades, Indonesia has witnessed significant transformations, influenced by globalization, technological advancements, and women's empowerment movements. The paper examines the way modern Indonesian women negotiate their identities within a cultural framework that historically espouses patriarchal norms. Through qualitative analysis, this research reveals the duality faced by women balancing cultural expectations with personal aspirations. It highlights the roles of education, employment, and social media in reshaping women's perspectives and contributing to the evolving discourse on gender equality. Conclusively, this study emphasizes that while modern Indonesian women are increasingly pushing against the constraints of traditional culture, they continue to navigate a complex landscape where these cultural narratives shape their realities. The findings suggest that fostering an understanding of cultural contexts is necessary for promoting gender equality in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study examines the interplay between tourism and Islamic culture in Malaysia, highlighting how cultural heritage and religious practices influence the tourism landscape. Malaysia, as a predominantly Muslim country, provides a unique environment where Islamic values intersect with tourism, shaping visitor experiences. The research employs qualitative methods, including interviews with local stakeholders and analysis of tourism policies, to understand how Islamic culture is utilized to promote tourism. Findings reveal that Malaysia's rich Islamic heritage, including mosques, festivals, and culinary traditions, not only attract international tourists but also promote cultural awareness among locals. However, challenges arise in balancing the commercialization of cultural practices with the need for authenticity and respect for religious values. The study concludes that integrating Islamic culture into tourism development offers opportunities for sustainable tourism while preserving cultural identity. Recommendations for enhancing the synergy between Islamic culture and tourism practices in Malaysia are also discussed, encouraging local communities to engage in authentic cultural representations that resonate with tourists.

Abstract

This study explores the representation of regional cultures on YouTube, highlighting how digital platforms serve as vital spaces for cultural expression, preservation, and dissemination. As a leading video-sharing platform, YouTube plays a crucial role in showcasing diverse cultural narratives and allowing users to engage with local traditions, customs, and lifestyles from around the world. Employing qualitative methods, including content analysis of selected videos and interviews with content creators, this research investigates how cultural elements are portrayed and perceived in the digital landscape. The findings reveal that YouTube not only democratizes access to cultural content but also facilitates cross-cultural exchanges, fostering understanding among diverse audiences. However, challenges related to authenticity, cultural commodification, and the potential loss of cultural integrity are evident, raising critical questions about the portrayal of local narratives in a global context. This study concludes that while YouTube presents significant opportunities for cultural representation, careful consideration is necessary to ensure the accurate and respectful conveyance of cultural identities. Recommendations for content creators and policymakers are provided to enhance the effectiveness of cultural representation and encourage responsible content creation in the digital age.
