Abstract

the purpose of this research is to find out how the distribution of the existence of ancient tombs in the city of Medan, the form of management of ancient tombs in the city of Medan based on the Law of Cultural Heritage No. 11 of 2010, and the contribution of the findings of ancient tombs to the development of Islam in the Village Martubung Medan. The method used is transect walk. This method is carried out as a strategy to map the existence of cultural heritage from the existence of complexes of ancient tombs.  His findings that the identification of ancient tombs in the city of Medan, especially in Martubung village, namely the Tomb of Datuk Hasan, Tomb of Datuk Payung, Tomb of Datuk Tongah, Datuk Dadih and Tomb of Datuk Hitam. To maintain the cultural heritage, the government collaborates with local communities to conduct socialization and conservation activities that include physical protection, transfer, excavation and recording, maintenance. The discovery of five ancient Islamic tomb complexes in Martubung Village shows the historical events of the entry and development of Islam in North Sumatra and cultural changes through the process of human adaptation to the environment.

Abstract

Theology as a branch of knowledge in Islamic studies,it’s still a debate among Muslims.Especially in contemporary times. This article provides a resume of al-Imam al-Alusi's contribution, as commentator, to the theological discussions in his Magnum Opus: Ruhul-Maani. To achieve this, this paper examines his views on several theological issues selected in his attempt to interpret the verses of the Qur'an with the main aim of discovering the quality and suitability of his arguments and their conformity with the basic principles and sources of Islam. This paper aims to share information about its stance and provide clarification if needed. The findings reveal that al-Imam al-Alusi's theological discussion includes the views of the major Islamic sects; Sunnis, Shi'ites, Mu'tazilites, Ash'arites, among others and brought their own opinions. It is also established that theological differences arise from philosophical thought in defense of individual sects. It was also revealed that the divergence did not affect the fundamentals of Islamic theology.

Abstract

This paper discussed the motives of wearing niqab among Muslim women. Most of Muslim women wear niqab because of religious motives. However, the development of niqab recently brings up a variety of colours and models. This diversity indicates different motives among Muslim women in wearing niqab. Surveying IAIN Surakarta’s students who wear niqab, this research elaborated the relationship between their motives of wearing niqab and their understanding of Islamic teaching about niqab. The research found that even though the main motive to wear niqab is to observe religious teaching, IAIN Surakarta’s students who wear niqab also consider the practice for safety reasons. They also realize that wearing niqab is not an obligation in Islam and follow schools which consider it as preferable (sunah).

Abstract

This study aims to explain the moderation of Islam in Ahmad Syafii Maarif's view which has contributed to the plurality of religions in Indonesia. This research is library research using descriptive-analytical methods and deductive reasoning. In Ahmad Syafii Maarif's view, Islamic moderation is about providing a reinterpretation of religious texts (Islam) with the aim that adherents can understand religion in essence and substance, which will lead to healthier tolerance among religious communities. To realize the moderation of Islam, Ahmad Syafii Maarif made various efforts including; active in various interfaith forums, voicing messages of moderation through writings, also initiated the establishment of the Maarif Institute, institution engaged in the humanitarian and cultural sector. Meanwhile, Ahmad Syafii Maarif's contribution of Islamic moderation to the plurality of religions in Indonesia is that it has sparked the enthusiasm of young people to hold a dialogue in various interfaith forums.

Abstract

East Lampung has been known as one of the Muslim bases in the Lampung Province. However, problems faced by Muslims in this region are quite complicated. Some of these issues are demoralization and the highly rate of criminalization. This study aims to describe and analyse the models of Islamic syiar approach applied by the religious counsellors in East Lampung. This research uses the descriptive qualitative method. The data is collected through in-depth interviews with the informants who have direct relation to the religious counselling activities. Besides, the direct observation is involved in analysing the activities of religious counsellors in doing their Islamic syiar. Moreover, surfing related documents to obtain relevant data with religious counselling activities such as rules, policies, and provisions is also entangled. Based on the conducted research, the religious counsellors in East Lampung use three approaches in performing their syiar in their community. They are the socio-cultural approach, the psychological approach and the political approach.
