Abstract

Cleaner production is an environmental management effort through preventive strategies to prevent pollution and waste of materials before the pollution occurs which is carried out in a sustainable manner in the hope of reducing the negative impact of the activities carried out. The view in cleaner production itself will provide a different perspective to achieve and sustainable consumption with the value of the resources that have been used. However, so far the batik production process is still considered inefficient and environmentally friendly. Thus, this study aims to determine the process of making batik and the behavior of efficiency in the batik production process in Afina Batik’s MSME. This research was conducted by observation and interviews. Interviews were conducted using purposive sampling method. Then, given solutions related to the management of Afina Batik to go to cleaner production. The interviewees included the flow of the batik production process, the raw materials used, the use of energy in batik production, both water and electricity, the use of chemicals, the type of waste generated and the amount, and the waste treatment process. The results obtained are various wastes from the dyeing process to washing. In addition, several factors were found that hinder Afina Batik from moving towards a cleaner production process, such as the use of synthetic dyes, still using cordwood, and still wasteful use of air. There are several methods that can be used to implement cleaner production at Afina Batik’ MSME, namely by maximizing the use of candles to efficient use of energy, air, and raw materials.

Abstract

Given the popularity gained by ICT in universal education in the past two decades, as new capabilities for technology integration emerged, its use in educational contexts has steadily increased. The use of technology for a broad range of teaching and learning purposes is now established at many universities. Studies were conducted about technology use attitude in education, but the majority has concentrated on how to replace traditional with blended methods of instructions. This study examines Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) teachers’ attitude towards technology use in teaching in Bangladesh. A descriptive research design was used.  Research instrument employed was questionnaire which was administered on 120 STEM teachers from three sampled universities of Bangladesh. It was found that the respondents’ affective, perceived usefulness, behavioural intentions, and overall attitude towards technology use were significant, though challenges that include domain (affective, cognitive, perceived control), conceptualization of technology use attitude, teacher-training, objectives and contents were obtained. In essence, the study findings revealed a positive attitude of the STEM teachers towards technology use in teaching in Bangladesh universities and challenges needed to be overcome for better teacher delivery. A technology acceptance model formulated by Venkatesh and others (UTAUT) which hypothesized on user acceptance of technology towards a unified view was used in this study. The theory wants to explain user intentions to use technology following behavioral intensions. The constructs of UTAUT (performance expectancy PE, effort expectancy EE, social influence SI and the facilitating condition FC) are found to have positive effect on behavoiural intension and the attitude of technology use in teaching as well. Attitude is the most important detector of behavioural intension towards the use of technology by STEM teachers (Troy et. al 2013).

Abstract

La creciente necesidad de los egresados universitarios de la educación técnica para lograr una formación integral, completa y actualizada en el uso de las tecnologías actuales y equipos avanzados, así como la adquisición de competencias relacionadas con la capacidad colaborativa y la interrelación entre disciplinas, requiere la revisión de metodologías de enseñanza y aprendizaje a estudiantes universitarios.La presente investigación recoge el estudio realizado en una asignatura de tercer curso del Grado en Edificación de la Universidad de Sevilla, sobre un total de ochenta y dos alumnos, pertenecientes a dos cursos académicos. Implementa un innovador sistema de aprendizaje, aplicando los principios de evaluación continua, fomentando el trabajo colaborativo, la participación en propuestas, y el impacto en su formación derivada de la propia experimentación con equipos tecnológicos avanzados y sistemas BIM (Building Information Modelling) presentes en el trabajo profesional contemporaneo. , con verificación de resultados, siguiendo siempre el método de aprendizaje basado en la resolución de problemas del ABP.Los resultados de este estudio indican que la comprensión e implementación de la metodología BIM y el uso de una herramienta de escaneo 3D, combinados con la metodología basada en el PBL son de gran utilidad para el desarrollo de proyectos en el campo de la ingeniería de edificación . Los datos obtenidos tras las encuestas en relación a la valoración de los alumnos sobre su aprendizaje son muy positivos y una gran mayoría de ellos afirma que tras este curso han aprendido a trabajar colaborativamente, y les ha ayudado a superar el miedo a trabajar con BIM. y herramientas de escaneo 3D.

Abstract

The present study investigated the effect of learning based on analyzing mathematical errors on proportional reasoning ability. To achieve the purpose of the study, a proportion unit for the seventh grade students in Jordan was designed according to the learning based on error analysis. A sample of (45) seventh grade students participated in the study, and were randomly assigned into two groups; experimental and control. Data were collected through two instruments; a proportional reasoning test and an interview, after ensuring their reliability and validity. The results of the study revealed that learning based on the analysis of mathematical errors improved significantly proportional reasoning among the experimental group, and contributed in providing students with positive experiences in learning mathematics. In light of these results,  a set of recommendations for educational researchers, mathematics curriculum designers, and mathematics teachers were presented.

Abstract

The current curriculum design, program and the state of the physical learning environment in the Nigerian schools of architecture seem inadequate and ineffective. The study examined the teaching of architecture in Nigerian tertiary institutions. The aim is to ascertain the state of the present curriculum contents and learning facilities. Major Challenges identified in this study include dearth of learning facilities, inability to reform the curriculum contents and limited financial resources allocation to run the schools. Also increasing unemployment for architecture graduates and unskilled nature of practicing graduates were also included. Highlighted in the discussion for necessary intervention by stakeholders of Nigerian tertiary institutions includes review and upgrading of existing curriculum, efficient time-management skills and collaborative teaching and learning techniques. For physical learning environment, literature points that a clean, bright, organized and open-plan ventilated space strengthens learning by motivation. The result from the survey carried out on physical classroom environment among students of tertiary institutions, indicates that the level of satisfaction was fairly satisfactory and that the students expressed that large halls, large corridors were the most available facilities (63.2% and 52.8% respectively). The major equipment in the classroom were whiteboards (100%), personal computers (47.2%) and digital projector or smart board (30.4%), while the available facilities for pleasant environment were attractive surroundings (100.0%). Adjustment of training methodology, improving training skills, retraining the trained, upgrading infrastructure and facilities; expansion of the curriculum and training program were recommended in order to comply with the current global trends.

Abstract

Switched Reluctance Motors have expanded their field of application in recent years, from a control system stepping motor to high torque e-vehicle applications. High-speed operation and a light-weight driving motor are critical elements for an effective electric vehicle design. SRM's low torque-to-weight ratio and magnetless rotor design make it ideal for use in electric vehicles with less weight and low cost. The only limitation with switched reluctance motors is torque ripple and vibrations. There have been a variety of techniques to reducing torque pulsations in the SRM, by which vibration and noise can be reduced. In this paper, an optimization technique is used in switching controllers in and a comparison is done between a sliding mode controller (SMC) with a modified reaching law and by using  Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC). By using matlab Simulink the magnitude of torque ripple is simulated and compared for 8/6 pole  SRM. The results shows that the torque ripple is reduced in fuzzy compared to SMC  significantly.
