Abstract

Water is an essential natural resource playing a critical role in human life. Most of the community's needs for drinking water, industry and agricultural irrigation are met from groundwater sources, with agricultural irrigation being the largest user. Central Lampung Regency is dominated by agricultural land and plantations as the main economic sector. Groundwater is a more secure, drought-resistant and easily accessible source, which greatly supports agriculture in this region. This study aims to identify groundwater potential in Central Lampung Regency using remote sensing data and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Remote sensing applications are employed to assess vegetation density through the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) algorithm. This parameter is then overlaid with other factors, such as soil type, rainfall, land cover, rock lithology, aquifer productivity, slope, and the Topographic Wetness Index (TWI), resulting in a groundwater potential map. Based on the generated groundwater potential map for Central Lampung Regency, it is found that the distribution of groundwater potential is as follows: 0.03% with very high potential, 6.03% with high potential, 84.11% with moderate potential, 9.77% with low potential, and 0.06% with very low potential. Keywords: Groundwater, GIS, NDVI, Remote Sensing

Abstract

This study aims to determine the viability of the seeds of packaging materials with high adhesion power, which is higher than those of low adhesion packaging materials in a storage container with quicklime after four months of storage. The research was conducted at the Laboratory of Seed and Plant Breeding, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Lampung from October 2019 to February 2020. This study used a randomized block design (RBD) with four replications. This study used a single unstructured factor, namely the packaging material consisting of aluminum foil (b1), polyethylene (b2), polypropylene (b3), ordinary plastic (b4), brown envelope (b5), and calico cloth (b6). The data analysis used was the Bartlett test to determine the homogeneity of the variety of data between treatments. The addition of data was tested by using the Tukey test, if the assumptions between the data were met, then an analysis of the variety of separation between the mean treatment was carried out by means of a class comparison test at the 5% level and the results showed that the seeds of the packaging material of aluminum foil, polyethylene, polyprophylene, plain plastic, envelope paper, and calico cloth are no different in the container stored with quicklime after four months of storage. High seed viability in aluminum foil, polyethylene, polyprophylene, plain plastic, envelope paper, and calico cloth in the storage room with post-storage air drying agent for four months. The viability of seeds after four months of storage was still high, supported by an average germination value of 92.35%; germination rate 33.16%; normal sprouts dry weight 33.46 mg; water content 6.41% and low electrical conductivity 221.22 µS / cm g. Keywords: packaging materials, seed deterioration, seed viability.

Abstract

This study aims to generate a landslide susceptibility map for Balik Bukit District using geospatial data and analyze the vegetation density from Sentinel 2-A and Landsat 8 OLI imagery to support the identification of landslide-prone areas. The study used SHP data for various parameters including Rainfall, Slope, Geology, Land Cover, Soil Type, and NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index). The final results consist of thematic maps and a landslide susceptibility map, illustrating the area's risk levels. GIS played a crucial role in mapping, calculations, and analysis. Five landslide susceptibility classes were derived from both Sentinel and Landsat imagery. Sentinel 2-A indicated 1991 Ha as not prone, 6905 Ha as low, 6174 Ha as moderate, 2468 Ha as high, and 710 Ha as very high. Landsat 8 OLI classified 1612 Ha as not prone, 6231 Ha as low, 6899 Ha as moderate, 2565 Ha as high, and 941 Ha as very high. Both imagery types identified Desa Kubu Perahu as very high risk but with different areas: Sentinel 2-A at 169 Ha and Landsat 8 OLI at 215 Ha. Vegetation density significantly influences landslide susceptibility, with Sentinel providing more detailed data, indicating 61 Ha as very sparse compared to 39 Ha by Landsat. Rainfall and Slope are the most dominant factors affecting landslide risk, followed by Geology, Soil Type, Land Cover, and Vegetation Density. Keywords:  GIS, Landslide, Lansat 8 OLI, Sentinel,  NDVI

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of varying percentages of coconut shell charcoal mixed with coal on the physical properties and combustion rate of biocoal briquettes. The briquettes were made with four variations of coconut shell charcoal percentages: 16%, 31.9%, 47.7%, and 63.7%. The results revealed that briquette density tended to decrease with an increasing percentage of coconut shell charcoal, except for the 63.7% mixture, which showed an anomaly with higher density. Mechanical strength, including tensile and compressive strength, decreased as biomass increased due to the weaker mechanical properties of coconut shell charcoal compared to coal. The combustion rate decreased with higher biomass percentages, with longer combustion times for higher biomass content due to the higher calorific value of coconut shell charcoal. Biocoal briquettes demonstrated better combustion efficiency than regular briquettes but were still inferior to super briquettes and pure coal briquettes. This study highlights the potential of biomass-coal mixtures as an alternative, environmentally friendly, and efficient energy source. Keywords: Biocoal Briquettes, Coal, Coconut Shell Charcoal, Combustion Rate. Abstract

In addition to other horticultural goods, Indonesia is a major producer of the pumpkin fruit that we see all the time. This fruit is often used to make a variety of foods, and it offers several health advantages. The transformation into dried food is a processing method with enormous commercial potential on a global scale. One of the specific post-harvest treatments required to increase the storage life of horticultural fruits like pumpkin is to convert it into chips. Vacuum frying is the preferred technique of processing these chips because it increases crispiness and prolongs the shelf life of the finished product. A new invention for the community at the research site is the use of a vacuum machine to process pumpkin chips. This is due to the practicality of the process and the ease of obtaining the raw ingredients. The purpose of this research is to find out how changing the temperature and pressure affects the pumpkin chip quality. The experiment was carried out with three different pressure levels (-66 cmHg, -68 cmHg, and -70 cmHg) with three different temperature changes (75 °C, 80 °C, and 85 °C). The approach used was a two-factor Randomized Block Design (RBD). Organoleptic evaluation, frying time, water content, and yield are some of the parameters measured. Pumpkin chip water content, frying time, and organoleptic test results are all affected by pressure and temperature, according to the findings. Fry for 41 minutes with a water content of 7% for the finest pumpkin chips. Keywords:  Pressure, Pumpkin fruit, Temperature, Vacuum Frying.
