Abstract

Housewives in urban areas such as Medan Tembung District have great potential as economic actors, but are often constrained by low managerial skills and limited market access. This community service program aims to empower housewives through home-based business management training covering business planning, simple financial recording, and digital marketing strategies. The implementation method was carried out systematically through four stages: needs identification, training design preparation, practice-based training (learning by doing), and intensive mentoring for two weeks. The results showed a significant increase in participants' understanding, measured through pre-test and post-test with an average increase of 35%. Participants are now able to separate personal finances from business capital and have begun utilizing digital platforms such as WhatsApp Business to expand their marketing reach. Furthermore, the formation of a local business community is an important output to ensure program sustainability. In conclusion, strengthening managerial capacity accompanied by continuous mentoring effectively increases financial independence and the competitiveness of home-based micro-businesses.

Abstract

Financial management and tax compliance represent the primary challenges faced by micro-enterprises such as Cafe 13ML Kopi in Medan. The core issues identified include the commingling of personal and business finances, as well as the absence of formal financial statements, which hinders business performance analysis and access to financing. This community service activity aims to enhance financial literacy and tax awareness through socialization and technical assistance. The methods employed include motivational lectures, tutorials on preparing financial statements based on simplified standards, and interactive discussions regarding MSME tax issues. The results of the activity indicate an improvement in the partner's understanding of basic accounting equations and the accounting cycle, ranging from transaction recording to the preparation of income statements. Furthermore, the partner now possesses stronger motivation to separate personal and business assets and to report taxes regularly in accordance with the latest regulations. The conclusion of this activity is that basic accounting and tax education can strengthen the internal governance of MSMEs, ultimately supporting business sustainability and management professionalism at Cafe 13ML Kopi.

Abstract

This community service program aims to improve digital literacy in the community through social media training, particularly for MSMEs. Based on an initial survey, participants had a high level of social media usage but did not fully understand content management strategies and the use of insight features. After the training, there was a significant increase in three key indicators: understanding of social media insights (from 70% to 93%), consistency of content uploads (from 40% to 68%), and audience interaction (up to 55%). These results demonstrate the success of this hands-on, participatory, and practice-based training approach. Comparison with recent research literature supports this finding, which suggests that digital training plays a crucial role in empowering MSMEs. However, this activity has limitations, including limited training time and varying levels of participant literacy. Follow-up programs and ongoing mentoring are recommended for optimal impact.

Abstract

Urban poverty in Medan is characterized by limited access to education and formal economic opportunities. This community service program aims to empower poor households in Patumbak Village, Medan Amplas District, through structured social entrepreneurship education. The implementation method utilized the Participatory Technology Development (PTD) approach, which includes partner identification, problem mapping, participatory workshops based on the "Smart-Social Entrepreneur" module, and one month of intensive mentoring. The target partners consisted of 20 poor households, the majority of whom had a low educational background (60% junior high/elementary school graduates) and worked in the informal sector. The results showed a significant increase in the economic and managerial capacity of the partners. A total of 70% of participants reported an increase in income post-intervention, with 30% increasing significantly and 40% increasing gradually. Furthermore, the participant satisfaction rate reached 85% in the satisfied to very satisfied category. Digital transformation was also evident in the partners' ability to utilize social media for product marketing. This service concludes that the integration of managerial training, digital technology, and strengthening the social entrepreneurship mindset is effective in building the economic independence of marginal communities. Continuous collaboration with financial institutions is required to address the micro-capital constraints still faced by the partners.
