Abstract

AbstractReflective practice is the essential part of learning process, especially in the online learning during pandemic. This is become the way of teachers to assess the effectiveness of learning and figure out what the challenges hindering the learning process are in order to optimize the learning process. This study employs a qualitative approach, in which researchers attempt to explain a phenomenon by focusing on the big picture rather than breaking it down into factors. Data was gathered mostly through questionnaire. The data was derived from three teachers that meet the requirement of this research through unstructured interviews via google form. The findings of this study show that teacher reflection is used to renew teaching method methods in the teaching and learning process, resulting in a more effective and conducive classroom environment. Furthermore, the practice of reflection aids instructors in becoming more creative and imaginative in order to improve teacher effectiveness when implementing online learning in the classroom. Keywords: Reflective Practice, Online Learning, Teacher Performance

Abstract

The pandemic that came in 2019 has ruined learning process forced students living in the with less support territory to drop their school. Even though virtual teaching had been declared from the very beginning to overcome and compensate the pandemic situation, the readiness to adapt the urgent sudden shift become a major issues worldwide, especially to the less support area such as Jayapura. Under this clutter, teachers play an important role to selectively determine the most proper and utilizable media that fits the students’ situation. Therefore, this study was aimed to investigate teachers’ wisdom in Jayapura in terms of media selection, their perfomance using the media, and students’ challenge due to using the. A descriptive quantitative survey research method was applied by assinging 5 questionnaire items adopted from Technology Acceptance Model to 123 students. The data found that students in remote area faced less trouble than students in urban area due to the teachers’ wisdom to select the most proper and applicable teaching media requiring less quota according to the limited circumtance in remote area.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis research aims to determine the effectiveness of vlog media in improving students' speaking abilities better at 7th L students at MTsN 1 Kediri. This research used a design of pre-experimental through one cluster pre-test and post-test. The material provided was a descriptive text. The instrument in pre-test, students are ordered test orally in the class one by one directly, the researcher gives them a topic then the students tell it. while in post-test, students are ordered to make Vlog to speak up by recording. Both of pre-test and post-test must be done about two until five minutes. This research was conducted in 7th L class MTsN 1 Kediri with 20 students as respondents. In this study, data of the research was a test score. The researcher obtained two data from the pre-test and post-test. In this study there were 2 raters. The first rater was a teacher; and the second rater was a researcher. The reliability of this research was inter-rater agreement where there was agreement on the tolerance for different scores between raters. the split score was 2 or more in scale of 1-5. The researcher only used the smaller scores of the split score to be calculated. there are four steps to analyze the data. First, calculating the mean of the scores from the pre-test and post-test. Next, comparing the mean of the pre-test and post-test. Next, calculating the homogeneity test. Lastly, calculating the significance level of the difference in the average data through Paired Sample t-Test. This method is done using SPSS 21. From the analysis above, it could be decided that there was a significant difference in the test results between the pre-test and post-test results of the 14 students that were counted. The students' mean score on the post-test was 92.125 and the mean score from the pre-test was 46.625. The different mean was 45.5 and the significant value was .000. So, the researcher resolved that the use of Vlog was very effective in improving the speaking achievement of 7th L class at MTsN 1 Kediri.

Abstract

The learning process be managed professionally by professional educators as well, in order to achieve the goals that are based on an education. In this case, teacher’s pedagogical competence is needed, especially in this Covid-9 era; which obliges the learning process done in distance learning. This research discusses the pedagogical competence of English teachers in overcoming students' learning difficulties. The problems of this research are: first, what is the form of students' learning difficulties perceived by teacher’s perception; and the second, how the efforts of the English teacher pedagogic competence in overcoming the learning difficulties of students. This study employed qualitative design that attempt to explain a phenomenon. Interview was used as the primary tool to collect the data. Furthermore, these interviews provided further insight about the way teacher uses pedagogical competence to overcome students’ learning difficulties in distance learning during covid-19 pandemic. The results of this study show that the pedagogic competence of English teachers can overcome students' learning difficulties. With this competency, the teacher uses herself as a leader in the classroom to manage effective and efficient learning. So that it is an effort to overcome the learning difficulties of students.

Abstract

ABSTRACTFor second language writers to write English research articles (RAs), it seems really challenging for them to write academic articles by English. In order to make the good and understandable writing the use of metadiscourse is really important. Therefore, this study attempted to explore the comparison of using metadiscourse for two different authors, the English native and Indonesian authors in their RAs. This study focused on the introduction and discussion section only. It aimed to identify the differences between the authors and to investigate how they used metadiscourse in their texts.The subject of this study comprised in total, 10 introductions and 10 discussions from 10 journals which are 5 different articles for each English native journals and Indonesian journals. They are in the field of TESOL and applied linguistic. This study focused on Ädel (2006) reflexive metadiscourse model (i.e., personal and impersonal metadiscourse) as the analytical framework. This study found that the culture influenced the use between personal and impersonal metadiscourse. The English native authors used more personal metadiscousre. On the other side, the Indonesian authors seems comfortable to use impersonal one.Keywords: “impersonal metadiscourse”, “personal metadiscourse”, “reflexive approach of metadiscourse”

Abstract

In the concept of second language acquisition, first language is able to influence second language skill. As international language, English is also become foreign language of Javanese speakers. This study analyze the errors of Javanese when pronouncing English text both is segmental (consonants and vowels) and supra- segmental (length, tone, intonation and stress) aspects. There are five participants who read the English text “The Greedy Lion”. They have to be born in Java, speak Javanese since they are child, and have Javanese language surroundings. The result shows that: 1) In pronouncing consonants, they made errors in /v/, /θ/, /ð/, /s/, /z/, /r/, /k/, and /g/; 2) In pronouncing vowels, they made errors in /i/, /ɪ/, /u/, /ʊ/, /e/, /ə/, /ʌ/, /ɔ/, /æ/, and /a/; 3) in supra-segmental aspect, they made errors in stressing word, intonating sentence, and lengthening diphthong.

Abstract

Abstract Reading is an important point for students to reach potential information, In the process of teaching and learning reading is identical essential. Then, this determines of this research is to determines the extent to which students' reading comprehension skills in reading texts are after being showed by concept-oriented Reading Instruction (CORI).In this study, the study’s objective was to treasure out the significant Effect of concept-oriented Reading Instruction (CORI) on Students’ Reading Comprehension in Narrative Text at the Eighth Grade of Junior High School Negeri 11 Bima city in 2020/2021 Academic Year. Researchers found that the reading comprehension of students at SMPN 11 Bima city is stagnant weak or lacking. There needs to be motivation from the teacher, earlier, researchers are interested in using Cori because it has something to do with motivation in understanding the meaning or reading ability in learning English.The population in this learning were all class VII Junior high school 11 Bima city, the total population was 150 students, the researchers only took two classes, namely class VII-4 as a Quasi- experiment class totaling 20 students, and class VII-7 as a control class group of 20 people, The sample size is 40 students. To study the data, the researcher used the t-test sample formula and statistical calculations.After studying the data, the researcher finished that there was a significant effect on using the Cori strategy in class VIII students of SMPN 11 Bima City, so it can be finished that there is a difference in the average student learning outcomes between learning Cori using and lecture techniques. Constructed on these results, it can be finished that the Zero Hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and, the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. Key Words: CORI Strategy, Reading Comprehension

Abstract

ABSTRACTCorona virus was first discovered in Wuhan, China, in 2019. This virus is spreading very quickly to the various countries of the world, and to make all the elements of life find obstacles in social mobility, economy and education. Therefore, WHO then took a stand to declare the spread of this virus to be a pandemic for entire countries. In the context of education in Indonesia, the government has issued various policies to tackle the spread of this virus by closing all formal educational institutions. The offer given by the government from this closure is an online learning method during the corona virus pandemic. The focus of this researvh is to investigate how the online learning process during a pandemic, how the influence of teachers on students when learning onlineThe researcher of this study is conducting by using qualitative descriptive research. The research belongs to descriptive qualitative design because it is intended to find out how is teacher’s perception of online English learning in the Covid-19 pandemic at secondary school. To collect the data, the researcher used online interview. The subjects of the study were 5 teachers who teaches at the secondary schools. They have been teaching English for 2-5 years and the participants was chosen because during this pandemic all teachers are teaching online.The results showed of teacher interviews that all respondents give good and bad lived experiences about teaching online learning. They claim that they can improve their learning system and get new experiences from the media used in online learning. On the other hand, the teacher also gave the perception that online learning has obstacles, there are bad networks, inadequate facilities, inadequate quality of mobile phones, minimalist quotas and applications used in online learning. However, teachers must continue to apply online learning or distance learning in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. For future researchers who wish to conduct similar study can use this research as a reference which is not only focuses on the teachers' lived experience and perceptions but also student perceptions with different participants.Keywords: Online Learning, COVID-19, English Language Teaching
