Abstract

Bilingual education program is supposed to be one of programs that becomes solution for student whose difficulties in foreign language, even it is believed to help future career of students therefore, Pesantren being famous with Islamic curriculum implement bilingual education program. This study investigates teachers and student’s perception along with the challenges of bilingual education in Pesantren context. This study employed descriptive qualitative which interview used as primary tool to collect data. The findings reveal that both teachers and students have positive perception toward bilingual education for some reasons however, there are some challenges encountered such as having difficulties to find appropriate bilingual model, different motivation students have and time management due to another program existed in Pesantren.

Abstract

AbstrackThis study is to find out whether the use of Group   investigation (GI) method in studets’ reading comprehension is effective or   not. This   research was done on the student of the ten grade, Senior High School in SMK   N 2 Kediri, which  have  three    classes. The ten grade of SMK N 2 Kediri was divided into three   classes. There were class X A, X B, and X C. the researcher used X C as an   experimental class and X B as control class. Reading test was the data which is collect as an   instrument. Kuder Richardson 21 formula was used to get reliability. The result was 0.81, so  the test was reliable. ANCOVA was used to   analysed the data. The result of the analysis indicate that the students’   reading comprehension ware significanly higher. The result 0.002 it is lower   than 0.05 (0.000<0.05). it is conclude that using Cooperative Group   Investigation is effective in students’ readingcomprehension.Keywords: reading comprehension, group Investigation (GI).

Abstract

AbstractThis research is conducted to answer the lack of teaching materials on the textbooks for both the teachers and students use; the book has tittle ‘’Language and English Literature for the 10th grade’’ and it used in MAN 1 Nganjuk. The development here focused on developing English literature material. The English literature material explained on the product was about the kind of literary work. The product designed here was the English literature for the basic level. The product presented the introduction and explanation of the literary work for the basic level. This product gave the additional material to help the teacher and students in the learning and teaching process, especially in English literature subject. In the previous textbook, the English literature material only contains about Song lyric and Proverb. According to the teachers, it is not able to accomplish the learning of English literature purpose. In this research, the researcher did the needs analysis to identify the problems, then proceed with the product's development; begin with deciding the title for each unit and the material, and also give some pictures and exercises.  The validation is done and obtains some feedback for some revision before the tryout to the small group of the students. This product was better than the previous, it was because sometimes the book does not give a clear example and even without the explanation, which can be the problem for students. So, then this book focused on how the student can understand the material presented, so the aim of learning English literature can be achieved by the students. Key Words: English Literature material, Tenth-grade students

Abstract

Barely, availability of the appropriate English materials is much needed for the students to master the English optimally. The primary goal of this research is to guide students to be able to communicate in English through the appropriate materials for basic of cruise ship crew. Teaching and learning of English at this subject was considered unable to achieve its objective. The main problem was that there were not instructional materials to support the teaching learning process. The procedures being employed in this study were R&D. Collecting relevant information for a basis of developing materials, the interview with the 1 teacher and 5 students, and classroom observation were carried out to complete the information provided in the instructional materials at Bangkalan Education Center. The findings represented that the respondents showed good responses in attractiveness of the materials, level of difficulties, steps of activities, usefulness of the materials in supporting speaking practice and students’ worksheet and the materials was considered eligible. Moreover, the materials were great in facilitating the students to practice their oral language. This study then ends with suggestion for teacher and other researchers.Keywords: Cruise Ship, Material Development, English for Specific Purpose.

Abstract

 It is said that one of language sources is sources. The point of this research is to see the understudies' capacity in dominating English vocabulary utilizing picture cards. This examination utilized quasi-experimental. The understudies who are sitting in the experimental class was encouraged utilizing picture cards while the individuals who was sitting in the control class was educated traditionally. The example was 40 understudies who were placed in those two classes (20 understudies were in experimental class and the other 20 understudies were in the controlled class). This examination followed three stages: pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The information were gathered through the test and the gathered information were broke down utilizing t-test equation with the assistance of SPSS. The discoveries of the examination indicated that the mean scores of the experimental group and the controlled group were unique. In light of the information examination, the critical section estimation of t-test was 0.003 < 0.05, it showed that the consequence of t-test investigation was huge or significant. In addition, the findings simply lead to making students more excited and involved in the learning process. This also provided evidence for this study using the Picture Card technique, so that the teacher could select the right technique to achieve the goal of teaching vocabulary, in particular, in the teaching of vocabulary. The result of this study showed that picture cards could give good effects on the students’ vocabulary learning.  Then, the researcher concluded that the picture cards could be used as an alternative teaching medium to push the students' vocabulary learning in the seventh grade of junior high school. Key Words : Picture Card, Vocabulary

Abstract

The purpose of the research was to (1) to know the material or product in speaking learning through task-based for internship vocational students in Sunrise Holiday Tour and Travel and (2) to develop the suitable English speaking textbook for Internship vocational students in Sunrise Holiday Tour and Travel. The design of this research study used Research and Development (R&D) in which this research aimed in developing an educational product such as textbook in tour guiding. The research subject was the internship students of Sunrise holiday tour and Travel. The procedure of development was classified into three steps (1) Pre-development, (2) development the draft after product, and (3) producing the final product. The pre-development was related to identify the problem by giving questionnaire to students and interviewing the instructor. Development the draft was gathered the information from the exciting book and the analysis and then developed it to draft of the product. The last procedure was producing the final product in which the researcher has done the editing material, asked the expert validation, revision the product and final product. The result of the research expressed that students loved the design of product and they could follow the instructions in every topic. Furthermore, the instructor said that the product was clear, appropriate and understandable textbook.

Abstract

The issue about teacher identity has been interesting to be observed by researchers in the past decade. Understanding teacher identity becomes important for teacher; both novice and experienced teacher where they need to shape and to develop professional identity as the teacher. This narrative study has sought to explore the construction of novice EFL teachers’ identity reflected in university context. The data were derived from two novice university EFL teachers through narrative frames and semi-structured interviews. The data were analyzed using TESOL teacher identity frameworks by Pennington (2014). The result shows that novice university EFL teachers constructed their identity through the implementations of teaching practices within professional development in university context that includes teaching strategies application, the knowledge field mastering, professional comprehension, teaching commitment, and life need fulfillment. The participants’ identity was also affected by intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Intrinsic factors include participants’ teaching motivation, satisfaction, and competence. Extrinsic factors include participants’ work environment, job career, students’ need and interaction with colleagues. Thus, understanding the construction of EFL novice teachers will contribute the platform for EFL teachers mainly for native teachers to prepare their professional teaching practice particularly in the university context.Keywords: Teacher Identity, Novice EFL Teacher, TESOL teacher Identity Framework, University Context

Abstract

The goal of this study is to improve reading comprehensin of the students in SMKN 1 Kemlagi. The development of the method is taken in this study because it is very important to find the most effective and easy way for student to comprehend reading. The methodological approach of the study is A Class Action Research. The Data collection is gathered by using test and observation, and also by holding pre and post test, to know the students ability before and after the study is conducted. There will be one class to observe in this study, consisting 34 students. The process of the study is started by conducting the preliminary research to know the former condition of the learning process in teaching reading. The study will see the existing of the syllabus, by analizing the basic competency, mean of the learning process, indicators, material and the teaching strategy. Moreover, it will be the background to develop further study in developing the teaching strategy in reading. SVO mapping Strategy is used in reading mastery process. It is done to guide the students to achieve reading skill. Finally, the result of this study shows that this method can be used as the alternative strategy in teaching and learning process in the class. Abstract

AbstractThe fundamental aim of this study was to develop reading supplementary materials using Islamic stories for an extracurricular program of senior high school level. This present study used Research and Development (R&D) design adopted from Borg & Gall (2003). Hence, several scientific procedures involved in this development were: needs analysis, studying recent theories, developing the educational product, validating the product to the experts, revision, try out and final product. Then, the final product of this present study is an exercise book of reading materials focusing on enhancing students’ interest in reading since this educational product is developed based on the students’ need and interest as Islamic learners. Perfectly, this developed product is also completed with several reading strategies and techniques to help the students in reading such as scanning and skimming, More, vocabulary exercises are also provided for the students in each unit of the book in order to   Last but not the least, the final result of this study revealed that the students enthusiastically showed their interest and actively engaged in reading activities through this material development. Keywords: developing, reading supplementary materials, Islamic stories, extracurricular

Abstract

This investigation explores the correlation among readability, learners' reading strategy and reading comprehension that was completed with 96 secondary school 10th grade students who received two kinds of reading comprehension tests, early of them including the simpler readability level content, and the subsequent one is the troublesome. The two of them were joined by a survey on reading strategy they utilized. This study discovered five unique results and was also aligned with the question posed. The first outcome was centered on the measure level of text readability of English textbook which has 4 levels. Secondly, this study found the most frequently reading strategies used by students are problem solving reading strategies (PROB) and support reading strategies (SUP). Third, the result of this investigation revealed that there is correlation between text readability and reading comprehension (rxy =־0.345), however the coefficient is negative. Secondly, there is correlation (rxy = 0.254) between text readability and reading strategy and the coefficient is positive. Finally, there is also positive correlation (rxy= 0.434) between reading strategy and reading comprehension. These outcomes implicated that the teacher should consider the readability level of text used as teaching material and familiarize reading strategies to their students let they have good reading skill.
