Abstract

In teaching learning, lecturers teach the students with a good sentence. But there is one of students may not understand what she said although in grammatically is correct, so it will happen miscommunication between lecturer and student. This research concerns in the classroom interaction in Class I,J as the main data of this research because there are many speech acts especially categories of speech act employed by lecturer and students in the interaction related to the context and situation. This research belongs to descriptive qualitative research since it employs the analysis of descriptive and qualitative methods. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative. The participants of this classroom interaction are Mrs. Lutfhi as the lecturer and students from class I,J whereas the 6 men and 27 women. The topic is talking about social problem. In this case the writer analyzes the speech act found in the classroom interaction. The listener of this interaction ought to understand the meaning of the speaker.

Abstract

This research is aimed to know how the students make the presentation in the classroom. This research wants to explore the students‟ difficulties in presenting the material. The research was conducted at Unswagati Cirebon toward fifth semester of A and B class. This research uses descriptive qualitative approach and use observation, and questionnaire as instruments in collecting data. Then the result of this research is presented descriptively. The findings of this research show that most of the students give good criteria in make presentation in the classroom, they can deliver the presentation well. The difficulties that faced by the student when presenting the material consist of: the students bring note when they presenting the material, they often fidgeting, jiggling or swaying when they deliver the presentation, the student stiff when deliver the presentation and it makes presentation tedious, and they end the presentation with an inspiration deficit.

Abstract

The present quasi experimental study was conducted to describe how theimplementation of sentence soup game in the teaching writing and to determine the significant difference of the students’ achievement according to their pre-test and posttest result. The sample of study was 70 eighth grade students of SMPN 4 PalimananCirebon. A pre-test and post-test equivalent group design was used to compare the achievement of two groups. The collected data was statistically analyzed by t test formula. The result showed that: 1).The implementation of sentence soup game assessed gave positive effect in teaching writing. It evidenced if students got advantages in this learning with playing activity. 2a).There was no significant difference of the students’ pre-test result. Where null hypothesis was accepted, the tobtained was less than the tcritical (0,980 < 1,667). 2b). There was significant difference of the students’ post-test result. Where null hypothesis was rejected, the tobtained higher than tcritical (2,692 > 1,667). The students’ performance of experimental group was better based on the difference between the mean scores. The mean of experimental group was 5,5 on pre-test and 7,4 on post-test, hence control group was 5,0 on pre-test and 6,7 on post-test. It indicated if teaching English writing through sentence soup game enhanced the achievement level of the students.

Abstract

The result of this study may add to the research literature refrences and add insight to the reader about the image women with the feminism literature review.This research is expected to give contribution to this language teaching using novel as the authentic media, particularly in teaching reading. Novel is narrative text informing of prose with a long shape that including some figures and fiction event. In this case, the study attempted to analyze text about Cultural feminism tht contains in the novel. The text analyzed is a novel entitled The Bookseller of Kabul written by Asne Seierstad, a Norway journalist who spent four months to write the novel after reporting civil war in Afghanistan. This novel mostly describes the portrayal of women in the context of gender relation in Afghanistan after the fall of Taliban, around 2001s.

Abstract

In this research, the writer analyzed the culture in the English textbook entitled “When English Rings a Bell for VIII Grade Junior High School (SMP/ MTS)” written by Siti Wachidah et al published by Ministry of Education and Culture. The research was conducted to find out what are the cultures shown on the English textbook. The writer tried to analyze the four categories of culture that stated by Patrriick Morran in the reading material on the English textbook. She wrote a paper entitled “AN ANALYSIS OF CULTURE ON READING MATERIAL TEXTBOOK AT THE SECOND GRADE OF JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL IN SMPN 10 CIREBON”. Textbook is the important thing in teaching and learning process (Tomlison, 1999:2). The textbook is for students that make 2013 curriculum in their school. Relying on this, the present study, how culture disseminated in he textbook. The data for this study are collected from an English textbook for second grade of junior high school. The data for the study are in the form of structural an the reading text passages. The structure is categorized and analyzed based on the framework culture four categorized proposed by Patrick Moran . The sample of this study analyzed trough the reading material on the first semester. This study use qualitative method. This study conducted at reading material on the first semester. Further, the reading material on the English textbook include used almost Indonesian culture. Further, the structural of textbook culture is Indonesian culture. The reading material also almost using Inodonesian culture. The textbook is easy to use because the textbook was familiar by students own culture, it presented names, action, places and characters of Indonesian culture.

Abstract

This study was carried out to analyze and to classify the kinds and the source of students’ errors in writing negative sentences using simple present tense and simple present continuous tense. The purpose of this study were to describe kinds of the stundents’ errors in writing negative sentences and to find out the source of errors which the students made in writing negative sentences. The method used in this study was descriptive analysis research. Descriptive analysis in form qualitative research design applied in this study was case study. Furthermore, the subject of this study was the students of the seventh grade students of SMPN 13 Cirebon which consisted of 20 students. The data were collected through writing test and interview for students. The result of the analysis of students’ errors process showed that students committed errors into ten kinds of errors are made by students: 1. Omission, 2. Additional, 3. Misformation, 4. Misordering, 5. Omission and misformation, 6. Omission and misordering, 7. Additional and misordering, 8. Additional and misformation, 9. Omission and additional, 10. Misformation and misordering. Based on the finding of analysis, it showed the students made a total of 120 errors in catagory of verb which consist of 21 are omission, 22 are additional, 15 are misformation, 6 are misordering, 8 are omission and misformation, 20 are omission and misordering, 5 are additional and misordering, 10 are additional and mosformation, 10 are omission and additional, and 3 misformation and misordering. These errors were conducted because most of students were still influenced by their mother tongue and their Indonesian logical thinking (interlingual transfer). Besides, errors occurred because students generalized the rule and applied it incompletely (intralingual transfer). To sum up, it showed that the analysis of students’ errors in writing negative sentences using simple present tense and simple present continuous tense is difficult for students.

Abstract

Speaking is one of skills which should be mastered by students in studying English. However in Indonesian school hours the chance to practice speaking is limited. One way to obtain more practices to speak outside of school hours is by joining English club extracurricular program. English club as an English extracurricular program in state Madrasah Aliyah Pembangunan Mandirancan gives chance to students to speak in more flexible condition with their peers. Thus, it is interesting to investigate the impact students perception on English club extracurricular toward students‟ speaking skill. The 26 students joined English club extracurricular as the sample. The techniques used obtaining the data were observation, questionnaire and speaking test. It is suggested that the students should joined English club extracurricular because it can improve students‟ speaking skill.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to describe in the teacher’s role as facilitator in teaching writing in the classroom. This research is qualitative approach by analysis teacher’s role as facilitator thought the data that have been collected from the student’s and the teacher’s. the technique of collecting data that used by the writer are observation in teacher’s role as facilitator, observation sheet, interview, video recording, and the result of observation. To know the kinds of teacher role as facilitator did teaching writing in the classroom. And the writer analysis teacher’s role in teaching writing in classroom by observation sheet giving mark on it and writer the correct it, until gets the result did. Then, the writer takes the conclusion of teacher’s role as facilitator and teacher interview to appropriate the teacher role in teaching writing in the classroom. This research find come that all of teacher role. Based on the result from interview the lecturer, the teacher as facilitator was applied the teacher.
