Abstract

Remedial programs in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning are needed to help students who have difficulty understanding Islamic concepts, which has an impact on low academic achievement. Many students have not reached the Minimum Completeness Criteria (KKM) in the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains. However, the implementation of remedial measures is often constrained by time constraints, lack of resources, and low student motivation to learn. This study aims to analyze the implementation of remedial programs in improving student learning completeness in PAI subjects. The method used is qualitative with a literature study approach, while content analysis is used to examine various academic sources related to challenges and remedial success factors. The results of the study showed that remedial programs contributed positively to improving learning outcomes and strengthening students' religious values. Effective strategies include identifying individual needs, applying contextual learning methods, personalized approaches to teaching, and continuous evaluation. However, various obstacles are still faced, such as limited teacher skills and low student motivation. Recommended solutions include strengthening collaboration between teachers, schools, and parents, as well as professional training for educators. With systematic planning and consistent implementation, remedial programs can realize fairer, more inclusive, and comprehensive PAI learning.

Abstract

Reading ability plays a pivotal role in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learning. However, many junior high school students in Indonesia continue to struggle with reading comprehension, vocabulary recognition, and pronunciation. This study explores the strategies employed by English teachers to support students with low reading ability. Conducted at a public junior high school in Majalengka, West Java, this qualitative case study involved two English teachers and used interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis to gather data. The findings revealed that teachers employed a range of strategies, including read-aloud and guided reading, vocabulary repetition, peer pairing, visual aids and the use of dictionaries. These strategies were primarily intuitive and adapted to classroom conditions rather than being formally differentiated. While the techniques proved helpful in scaffolding struggling students, the study also highlights the lack of challenge for higher-level learners. This paper recommends more systematic application of differentiated instruction to address the varied needs of learners and improve reading instruction in heterogeneous classrooms.

Abstract

This study investigated first-year English Study Program students’ perceptions of using ChatGPT in improving their writing skills at Universitas Riau. Writing remains a challenging skill for many EFL students, particularly in generating ideas, organizing content, and using appropriate language. A quantitative descriptive design was employed involving 39 students from Class 2A who had prior experience using ChatGPT. Data were collected using a 30-item Likert-scale questionnaire covering five indicators: idea development, organization and structure, language use and vocabulary, confidence and motivation, and ethical awareness and critical thinking. The findings revealed overall positive perceptions, with the highest mean in ethical awareness and critical thinking (M = 4.51) and language use and vocabulary (M = 4.18). Students reported that ChatGPT helped generate ideas, enrich vocabulary, improve sentence structure, and increase writing confidence. The study concludes that ChatGPT can serve as a supportive tool for writing improvement while complementing students’ critical thinking and creativity.

Abstract

This study aims to describe elementary school students’ behavior in reading food and beverage packaging labels and to reflect this behavior as a form of scientific literacy. The background of this research is the low awareness of students in understanding scientific information presented in daily life, particularly on product packaging. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach conducted at SDN Serengan 1 Surakarta through observation and interviews with sixth-grade students. The results revealed that students’ habits of reading packaging labels are still low, both at school and at home. Most students tend to focus only on price, taste, and visual appearance without paying attention to nutritional content, food additives, or expiration dates. This condition indicates limited scientific literacy, lack of contextual learning from teachers, and minimal parental guidance. Reading packaging labels is an important aspect of scientific literacy as it trains students to think critically, interpret information, and make evidence-based decisions. Therefore, collaboration between schools, families, and communities is necessary to develop students’ awareness and habits in reading packaging labels from an early age.
