Abstract

Reading comprehension remains a major challenge in EFL classrooms due to passive teaching methods and low student engagement. This study investigated whether the use of short stories significantly improved the reading comprehension of eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 2 Palu. A quasi-experimental design was employed involving two classes: XI E as the experimental group and XI D as the control group. Data were collected through pre- and post-tests. The experimental group showed an increase in the mean score from 83.13 to 92.53, while the control group improved from 74.27 to 81.13. However, the independent t-test indicated that the difference was not statistically significant (t = 0.21, p > 0.05). These findings may be attributed to the relatively short treatment duration and the high initial reading ability of the experimental group, which limited the observable statistical effect. Nevertheless, the N-Gain analysis showed greater learning improvement in the experimental group (0.55) than in the control group (0.27). These findings suggest that short stories have pedagogical potential to support students' reading comprehension despite the absence of statistically significant differences.

Abstract

This study examined the direct and indirect effects of the principal’s transformational leadership and the work environment on teacher performance through organizational commitment among public junior high school teachers in North Banjarmasin District. A quantitative survey design with path analysis was employed. The population comprised 236 teachers, and 148 respondents were selected using proportional random sampling. Data were collected through valid and reliable Likert-scale questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics, multiple linear regression, path analysis, and the Sobel test. The findings revealed that transformational leadership had a positive and significant effect on organizational commitment and teacher performance. The work environment significantly influenced organizational commitment but had no direct significant effect on teacher performance. Organizational commitment positively affected teacher performance and mediated the relationships between transformational leadership, the work environment, and teacher performance. These findings suggest that strengthening transformational leadership, creating a supportive work environment, and enhancing organizational commitment are essential strategies for improving teacher performance and overall school effectiveness.

Abstract

Mathematics learning in elementary schools is essential for developing students’ numeracy skills and foundational mathematical understanding. This study aimed to examine the effects of learning motivation and Visual–Auditory–Kinesthetic (VAK) learning styles on mathematics achievement among second-grade students at SD Angkasa Lanud Silas Papare. A quantitative ex post facto design with a correlational approach was employed. The participants consisted of 70 students selected through saturated sampling. Data on learning motivation and VAK learning styles were collected using validated and reliable questionnaires, while mathematics achievement data were obtained from test scores on addition and subtraction topics. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, classical assumption tests, and multiple linear regression. The results showed that learning motivation had a positive and significant effect on mathematics achievement (β = 1.328, p < .001), whereas visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles did not have significant effects when analyzed simultaneously. The regression model explained 52.02% of the variance in mathematics achievement (R² = .5202). These findings indicate that learning motivation is a stronger predictor of mathematics achievement than VAK learning styles. Therefore, strengthening students’ motivation should be prioritized to improve mathematics learning outcomes in elementary schools.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low conceptual understanding of students in the subject of Islamic Cultural History at Madrasah Aliyah, caused by conventional teacher-centered learning methods and the suboptimal use of digital media in the learning process. This study aims to improve students’ conceptual understanding through the application of the Timeline Mapping method integrated with a digital game-based learning media, namely Blooket. The research method used in Classroom Action Research with the Kemmis and McTaggart model, conducted in two cycles. The research subject were 19 students of class XI-A at Ma Al Fajar Kalapadua, Lemahsugih District, Majalengka Regency, West Java Province, academic year 2025/2026. Data were collected quantitatively through pretets and posttest, and qualitatively through observation. The result showed a significant improvement in all indicators of students’ concepual understanding. Classical completeness increased from 21.05% in the pre-cycle to 31.57% in cycle I, and reached 89.47% in cycle II. The class average score also increased from 60.00 in the pre-cycle to 66.05 in cycle I and 83,42 in cycle II. Thus, the combination of the Timeline Mapping method with Blooket media has proven effective in improving students’ conceptual understanding in the subject of Islamic Cultural History at Madrasah Aliyah.

Abstract

Social Studies learning in madrasah requires instructional materials that connect social concepts with Islamic values, yet available materials often remain general and less systematic. This study aimed to develop an Islamic values integrated Social Studies ebook on international cooperation and examine its validity, practicality, and effectiveness in improving students' conceptual understanding of Nusantara Islam and religious character. This research employed a Research and Development approach using the ADDIE model combined with a quasiexperimental nonequivalent control group design involving 50 students at MTs Taswirul Afkar Surabaya. Data were collected through needs analysis, expert validation sheets, practicality questionnaires, conceptual understanding tests, and a religious character inventory. The product mapped international cooperation content with Nusantara Islamic values, including ta'awun, ukhuwah insaniyah, and wasathiyyah, and was developed into an  ebook containing concept maps, contextual materials, reflection activities, worksheets, and evaluation tasks. Expert validation showed high feasibility in the media dimension (97.4%) and content dimension (98.5%), while student practicality responses were very good. Implementation results indicated that the ebook improved conceptual understanding and supported religious character development. Thus, the ebook is valid, practical, and effective as a value integrated digital instructional material for madrasah Social Studies learning.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the increasing use of social media platforms as informal learning resources for English vocabulary acquisition among EFL students. Although social media is widely used for educational purposes, students' perspectives, learning experiences, and the features supporting vocabulary acquisition require further exploration. Therefore, this study investigated EFL senior high school students' perspectives, challenges, and perceived beneficial features of using social media platforms for English vocabulary acquisition outside the classroom. This study employed a qualitative case study design involving approximately 300 eleventh-grade students at SMAN 1 Banjaran, West Java, Indonesia. Data were collected through a screening questionnaire completed by 80 students, a main questionnaire administered to 25 purposively selected participants, and semi-structured interviews with five participants selected through maximum variation sampling. The findings revealed that students generally perceived TikTok and YouTube as engaging, accessible, and contextual platforms for vocabulary acquisition. Features such as subtitles, translation tools, audiovisual content, and example sentences facilitated vocabulary learning, whereas distractions, fast-paced content, limited feedback, and inconsistent content quality remained major challenges.

Abstract

This study examined the effectiveness of coastal environment-based Problem-Based Learning (PBL) in improving students’ ecological literacy and learning outcomes in biodiversity ecology. The research was motivated by the need to make ecology and biodiversity learning more contextual, meaningful, and connected to students’ surrounding environmental realities. A quantitative pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design was employed. The participants were 30 seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Bokan Kepulauan, Banggai Laut Regency, selected through saturated sampling. Data were collected using a 25-item multiple-choice learning outcomes test, an ecological literacy questionnaire, and a student activity observation sheet. The data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, normalized gain, and descriptive percentage analysis. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ learning outcomes and ecological literacy after the implementation of coastal environment-based PBL. The N-gain score for learning outcomes reached 0.713, while ecological literacy reached 0.74, both categorized as high. Student activity also remained consistently high during the learning sessions. These findings indicate that coastal environment-based PBL is effective in enhancing students’ conceptual understanding, ecological awareness, and active participation in biodiversity ecology learning.

Abstract

A web-based internship monitoring information system was developed to address challenges in managing and monitoring student internship activities in vocational education. This study aims to evaluate the quality of the system using the ISO/IEC 25010 software quality model. Unlike previous studies that primarily focused on system development, this research provides a comprehensive software quality evaluation by integrating functional suitability, usability, reliability, and performance efficiency within a single assessment framework. Functional suitability testing involved three expert validators and 55 functional test cases. Usability evaluation was conducted with 45 respondents, consisting of students, supervising teachers, heads of study programs, and industry instructors, using the User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ). Reliability testing employed Web Application Performance Testing (WAPT), while performance efficiency was assessed using Google Lighthouse. The results showed that the system achieved a functional suitability score of 100% and a reliability score of 96.57%. Usability evaluation indicated positive user experience across all dimensions, while performance testing demonstrated acceptable performance for web-based applications. Overall, the findings indicate that the system satisfies key ISO/IEC 25010 quality characteristics and can effectively support internship monitoring activities in vocational education environments.

Abstract

The high rate of internet penetration in Indonesia among adolescents (78.19%) has not been matched by adequate digital security awareness, while existing learning media remain passive and unable to simulate digital threats contextually. This study aims to develop DigiWise, an interactive story game based learning medium using Unity 2D to enhance digital security literacy among Junior High School students. The method employed is Research and Development with the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The novelty of this research lies in the integration of the Danger Level mechanism within the Choice Based Narrative system, which provides  educational feedback based on risk levels in real time. Product feasibility was assessed by two expert validators using a Likert scale 1–5 questionnaire. The media expert assigned 76.7% (Feasible) and the content expert assigned 93.3% (Highly Feasible), yielding a combined average of 85% (Highly Feasible). These results confirm that DigiWise is feasible as a digital security learning medium for junior high school students. However, this study is limited to expert validation and has not yet examined the effectiveness of DigiWise on students digital security literacy.

Abstract

One of the major challenges in elementary science education is students’ difficulty in comprehending abstract concepts due to the underutilization of interactive visual media. This issue is particularly evident in teaching the human respiratory system, which requires three-dimensional visualization to facilitate conceptual understanding and promote scientific literacy. Therefore, this study aims to examine the influence of Augmented Reality (AR) applications on elementary school students’ scientific literacy within this topic. Adhering to PRISMA guidelines, this Systematic Literature Review (SLR) retrieved literature from Publish or Perish, Open Knowledge Maps, and Google Scholar. From an initial pool of 600 publications, a rigorous screening and critical appraisal process yielded 34 eligible articles, with 15 selected for in-depth synthesis. The findings indicate that AR applications consistently enhance students’ scientific literacy by improving conceptual understanding, visualizing abstract science concepts through interactive 3D representations, increasing learning motivation, and supporting meaningful learning experiences. In conclusion, AR represents a promising instructional innovation that provides substantial potential to strengthen scientific literacy and support digital technology integration in 21st-century elementary science education.
