Abstract

Entering the Puppet Museum in Jakarta we come across with beautiful tombstones of the period of The Dutch –East Indian Company or the VOC (Verenigde Oost Indische Compagnie). The tombstones are clinking on the left wall inside the building. Compare with the others, the tombstone of Gustaaff Willem Baron van Imhoff is very unique because it has a different style of its heraldry. This paper revealed the historical background of Van Imhoff who had played an important role in the Indonesian’s colonial history in the middle of the eighteen century. The micro and the macro analyses of the data of the tombstone show that the verbal and the non-verbal data support the historical data. The result of this analysis enriches the knowledge of the cultural heritages from the colonial period of our country

Abstract

Monthly Characteristic and Variability of Surface Wind Over the Indian Ocean. This research was conducted to understand monthly characteristic and variability of surface wind circulation over the Indian Ocean. The method used in this research was descriptive analysis. The data used was the monthly direction and velocity of surface wind obtained from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The result showed that the monthly variability of surface wind circulation over the Indian Ocean is influenced by movement of the sun. The change in the variability of surface wind circulation was more in the northern hemisphere, but vice versa surface wind circulation in the southern hemisphere was constant during the year. Generally, velocity of surface wind circulation was the greatest occurred in July and was the weakness occurred in April.

Abstract

The Wave and Current Characteristic at Eretan, Indramayu. Erosion process occurs in many places, but each of these processes have their respective characteristics. The purpose of research for understanding the dynamics of the process that caused the coastline of the interaction between air, sea and land. Research has been conducted in Eretan, Indramayu in 2006. The results show the average wave height (H1/3) in February obtained higher (60.4 cm) compared with August (23.6 cm) and in May obtained a much lower (5.7 cm). Current velocity in February and in August obtained dominant raised due to by field of wave and the influence of tidal currents do not exist. Instead current velocity obtained in May was raised by the dominant tidal currents and very small currents generated by the wave field. The influence of the wave field to the velocity and direction of flow will distribute sediment transport in the area of wave breack (breack water) to the coastline. Characteristic wave has a period of 3, 5, and 7 second is the trigger shoreline retreat 1.5 m/year.

Abstract

Weekly sea surface height (SSH) in the tropical Indian Ocean (20°S - 20°N) was analyzed for the period of January 1993 – December 2007 using an empirical orthogonal function (EOF) and a self-organizing maps (SOM) analysis. The EOF analysis identifies four patterns and three of them are contained in the SOM patterns. The SOM, on the other hand, characterizes the sea level variability, which shows twenty-five patterns. The patterns with low (high) sea surface height anomaly (SSHA) in the southern (northern) hemisphere associated with the monsoonal winds dominate the variation in both two methods. The SOM is also able to separate typical patterns associated with the ENSO and or the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) events. Low SSHA occupied the western half of the basin while high SSHA loaded in the eastern basin when the La Niña event is taking place. The El Niño event is characterized by low SSHA in the northern hemisphere, along the equator and along the eastern boundary, while high SSHA in the southwestern part of the basin. The IOD event shows a dipole like pattern with low SSHA in the east and high SSHA in the west. When the IOD co-occurred with El Niño, a distinct dipole pattern is clearly observed.

Abstract

Image Fakery Detection Based on Singular Value Decomposition. The growing of image processing technology nowadays make it easier for user to modify and fake the images. Image fakery is a process to manipulate part or whole areas of image either in it content or context with the help of digital image processing techniques. Image fakery is barely unrecognizable because the fake image is looking so natural. Yet by using the numerical computation technique it is able to detect the evidence of fake image. This research is successfully applied the singular value decomposition method to detect image fakery. The image preprocessing algorithm prior to the detection process yields two vectors orthogonal to the singular value vector which are important to detect fake image. The result of experiment to images in several conditions successfully detects the fake images with threshold value 0.2. Singular value decomposition-based detection of image fakery can be used to investigate fake image modified from original image accurately.

Abstract

Relative Expression of HIF-1α mRNA in Rat Heart, Brain and Blood During Induced Systemic Hypoxia. Hypoxia is a pathological condition in which the body as a whole or region of the body (tissue or cell) deprived of adequate oxygen supply. The transcriptional regulator hypoxia inducible factor-1 (HIF-1) is an essential mediator of O2 homeostasis. Unlike the β sub unit (HIF-1β), the activity of HIF-1α is controlled in an oxygen-dependent manner. It has been reported that the stability and expression of HIF-1α during hypoxia is remarkably higher than those under normoxic conditions. The aim of this study was to analyze the adaptive tissue responses during induced systemic hypoxia by comparation of relative expression of mRNA HIF-1α in rat heart, brain and blood. Twenty-five male Sprague Dawley rats were subjected to systemic hypoxia by placing them in the hypoxic chamber supplied by 8-10% of O2 for 0, 1, 7, 14 and 21 days, respectively. The relative expression level of HIF-1α mRNA in brain, heart and leucocyte cells were analyzed using quantitative RT-PCR assay (Real Time PCR) based on Pfaff’s formula. This study demonstrates that the increased of relative expression of HIF-1α mRNA during induced systemic hypoxia reached its maximum level at day 7 (in heart) or at day 14 (in brain), whereas in leucocyte cells the stimulation of HIF-1α expression was intensively maintained up to 21 days although the expression has reached the remarkably high level. We could conclude that HIF-1α as an oxygen sensing during systemic hypoxia has different capacity and sensitivity in brain, heart and blood tissues, due to the importance of oxygen homeostasis in each tissue

Abstract

Effect of Injection Minimal Dosages of Depot Medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA) to Body Weight and Blood Chemistry Male Rat Strain Sprague-Dawley. Many family planning program focus more on men. Until now, vasectomy has been the commonly used method for male contraception. However, this method creates inconvenience such as irreversibility and psychological problems. One of the alternatives contraception is the combination of depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA) and androgen. The minimum dosage of DMPA could suppress testosterone level that leads to reduced spermatogenesis and sperm viability. Nevertheless, until now it is not known whether minimum dosages of DMPA have an effect to body weight and blood chemistry. Therefore, this research aimed at determinate the effect of minimal dosages of DMPA to body mass and blood chemistry using male rats (Rattus norvegicus L.) strain Sprague-Dawley as model. This research using completely randomized design, unequal size sample, castration treatments and several doses DMPA (1.25, 0.625, and 0.313 milligram). Injecting of DMPA conducted intramuscularly on week 0 and week 12. Normality/homogeneity Data normality were analyzed before ANOVA test. Then, abnormal data were tested using Kruskal-Wallis test. The result shows that injection of DMPA in various doses do not have an effect on body weight and blood chemistry such as erytrocytes, haemoglobin, hematocrite, HDL, LDL, total cholesterol, SGOT, SGPT and triglyseride) (p>0,05). Furthermore, it is concluded that that no effect of minimal dosages of DMPA to body mass and blood chemistry of rat.

Abstract

Deposition of thin films for material solar cell CuInSe2 are relatively simple. In this research mainly focused on the use of flash evaporation method, and the material created can then be characterized by optical and electrical properties. The optical characterization is done by X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS), and transmission and reflection by UV-VIS spectrophotometry. Electrical characterization is done by utilizing the Hall effect equipment. From these characterization, the atomic structure, absorption coefficient, energy gap, material type, composition of each elements and the mobility of CuInSe2 can be measured and determined. During process evaporation were carried out at substrate temperatures the range between 20ºC–415ºC.
