Abstract

3-D Face Recognition System using Additional Feature Lines in Nearest Feature Line Method in Eigenspace Representation. In this paper, the authors propose a new method in 3-D face recognition system using additional feature lines in Nearest Feature Line method, called the Modified Nearest Feature Line method. The additional feature lines can be acquired by projecting each feature point to other feature lines in the same class without increasing the number of feature points. With these additional lines, the system will have the ability to capture more variations of face images, so it can increase the recognition rate of the system. The authors also propose KL-TSubspace1 and KL-TSubspace2 as methods in transforming the 3-D face images from its spatial domain to their eigenspace domain. The experiments use the 3-D human faces of Indonesian people in various expressions and positions. Then, the system is applied to recognize unknown face images with different viewpoints. Experimental results shown that the system using KL-TSubspace2 and Modified Nearest Feature Line method can have the highest recognition rate of 99.17%.

Abstract

Termites are a group of invertebrates abundant in forested habitats. In this study, we conduct an inventory and spatial analysis of the termite fauna of the UI campus. The survey records the presence of six termite species (Coptotermes curvignathus, Schedorhinotermes javanicus, Macrotermes gilvus, Microtermes insperatus, Odontotermes grandiceps, and Odontotermes javanicus), most of which had been reported by previous studies. The spatial analysis of termite nest distribution suggests a random scattering of termite nests in the UI campus.

Abstract

During three months period observations (November 16 to January 13, 2001) in coral reefs of Pramuka Island Indonesia, the nudibranch Phyllidia varicosa was observed while feeding on the sponge Axinyssa cf. aculeata. During feeding, P. varicosa extended externally the pharyngeal bulb onto the sponge causing visible somatic damage. The behaviors of contracting the body and retracting the rhinopores inside the rhinotube were also observed while feeding. Observations on the feeding of Phyllidia varicosa on the sponge Axinyssa cf. aculeata and the presence of a visible somatic damage on the prey due to predation are reported for the first time.

Abstract

An attempt to prepare trinuclear tungsten oxoalkoxides [BzMe3N]3 [W3O8 (OMe)5 ] from the reaction between WO2 (OMe)2 , [BzMe3N]2WO4 and [BzMe3N](OMe) in the ratio of 2:1:1 in MeOH produced [BzMe3N]2 [Na2W4O12(OMe)4 (MeOH)6 ].6MeOH. Suitable crystals for X-ray chrystallographic studies were obtained from hot mixture of methanol-acetonitrile solution. The I.R., 1H-NMR, and microanalysis data including crystal structure of [Na2W4O12(OMe)4 (MeOH)6 ] 2- anion are reported

Abstract

Application of Remote Sensing and Ecology Analysis Method for Geographic Information System of Coastal Ecosystem. With the development that have been done on all Indonesian coastal area, the damaged can be suffered from day to day. The decrease of environmental or ecosystem quality occurred and effected the economic, social and cultural life directly or indirectly. Based on that condition, data or information is needed to look accurately the decrement level and the way to handle it. One method that can be used is a computer based technology which commonly called Geographic Information System (GIS). The technology can gathering, recording, processing and displaying data or information which is obtained directly or indirectly from the field. As the data to be said acceptable with high validity, then before it is being acknowledged, then an ecology analysis and remote sensing technology can be done first.

Abstract

The Effect of Thermal Annealing on the Optical Properties of a-SiC:H Films Produced by DC Sputtering Methods: I. Silicon Target Case. The effects of thermal annealing treatment on the optical properties of amorphous silicon carbon films deposited by silicon target in an argon, methane and hydrogen gas mixture have been studied using ultra violet-visible (uv-vis) spectroscopy. Both n and α, and consequently the real and imaginary parts of the dielectric constant, show a considerable variation with subsequent annealing up to annealing temperature 500 °C, with the most rapid changes occurring for temperature 300 °C. The films tend denser as the annealing temperature increased up to 500 °C. The optical gap improved slightly upon annealing, where as the disorder of the amorphous network reduced. The annealing treatment produces reorganization of the amorphous network since thermal annealing results in dissociation of hydrogenated bonds (Si-H and C-H).

Abstract

The Effect of Thermal Annealing on the Optical Properties of a-SiC:H Films Produced by DC Sputtering Methods: I. Graphite Target Case. A study of the annealing effect on optical properties and disorder of hydrogenated amorphous silicon carbon (a-SiC:H) films was undertaken. The films were prepared by sputtering technique using graphite target and silicon wafer in argon and hydrogen gas mixture, and then characterized by uv-vis (ultra violet-visible) spectroscopy before and after annealing. Index of refraction n and absorption coefficient α of films have been determined from measurements of transmittance. The optical gap show small variation with annealing temperature, increasing with increasing annealing temperature up to 500 °C. An increase of annealing temperature leads to reduced film density and the amorphous network disorder. The experimental results are discussed in terms of deposition condition and compared to other experimental results.
