Abstract

Abstract

Work stress, age, and years of services with work fatigue among nurses at mental hospital of Grhasia YogyakartaPurposeThis research aimed to find associated factors of working stress, age, and working length with fatigue feelings among nurses at mental hospital of Grhasia Yogyakarta. MethodsA cross-sectional study was conducted using data sheets, job stress questionnaire, and KAUPK2 questionnaire given to 55 nurses. Research data were analyzed using Pearson product moment and multiple linear regression tests. ResultsWork stress correlated with work fatigue feelings with value r=0.454, p-value<0.05, age correlated with feelings of work fatigue with value r=0.334, p-value<0.05, and working relationship with feelings of work fatigue with value r=0.361, p-value<0.05. The results of multiple regression analysis indicated that job stress and work period have a significant relationship and are the factors that most play a role in determining feelings of work fatigue among nurses (R2=0.275, p=0.000).ConclusionThere was a correlation between work stress, age, and work period with feelings of work fatigue among nurses, and there were influences simultaneously between work stress and work period with feeling of work fatigue. It is recommended for hospitals to conduct recreational activities or rotate work for senior and less productive nurses with junior and productive nurses. This policy aims to eliminate boredom and work fatigue. In addition, nurses are expected to perform and improve healthy lifestyles, by performing routine medical check ups, eating food with a balanced diet and getting adequate rest.

MethodsThis study used a matched case control design to examine the relationship between specific effects with certain risk factors. There were 76 total respondents, with 38 in the case group and 38 in the control group. ResultsBivariate analysis showed that residential density (p=0.001; OR= 5.7), lighting in bedroom (p=0.029; OR=32), nutritional status (p=0.029; OR=3.2) were statistically associated with the incidence of smear-positive pulmonary tuberculosis at typical stilt houses in Bima. The most dominant risk factor in the incidence of smear-positive pulmonary tuberculosis in typical Bima stilts houses was the residential density.ConclusionResidential density, natural lighting in bedrooms were not risk factors, while malnutrition status increased the probability for prevalence of pulmonary tuberculosis acid fast bacilli positive in houses on stilts typical in the district of Bima.

Abstract

PurposeThe aim is to examine the suitability of the educational process in place with the expected professional development.MethodWe conducted in-depth interviews with (a) 16 third-year student who recently completed 2-month clinical rotation in the hospital and (b) four teachers.ResultsEvidence from this study indicate weak learning environment. Clinical instructor only has a limited time to meet with students, so that students rarely get the guidance and direct supervision. Students more often obtain “lessons” of the young staff, which many of them indifferent in providing guidance. Students feel insecure and fear in communicating with senior staff from both the nursing and medical professions. Academic lecturers provide minimum learning support. Their supervision does not allow students to reflect on their experiences.ConclusionProfessional development as reflected in clinical rotations in hospitals is still very limited. The government must monitor more strictly, especially for the medical school located in the district, where professional educators are very limited.
