Abstract

The digital literacy gap among medical personnel is a challenge, and the lack of understanding and skills in using information technology may hinder the effective utilization of e-medical records. The purpose of this study is to analyze the impact of e-medical records on the efficiency of health services, as well as evaluate the legal aspects governing their use in Indonesia. This research method uses normative juridical and empirical juridical research approaches; the research subjects consist of medical personnel, hospital managers, and IT system developers. In this research, the legal material collection technique that will be used is the literature collection technique. Overall, although e-medical records present challenges related to data security and privacy that must be addressed seriously, the development of a more comprehensive and clear legal framework will be essential to support the growth of this system as well as protect the rights of patients in the digital era; further regulatory development is still needed to optimize the benefits and overcome the challenges. There is a need for strategic planning that includes a thorough needs assessment, a realistic timeline, and adequate budget allocation; ongoing training for staff; establishment of an internal technical support team and mentoring program for users; and evaluation and monitoring with regular KPI measurement.

Abstract

COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus and was declared a global pandemic by the WHO in March 2020. The high number of cases in Indonesia, including in Sleman Regency, requires increased vigilance in various social institutions, including the Bimomartani Social Rehabilitation and Child Care Center (BRSPA), which has a child population that is highly vulnerable to infection. The transmission cases within the BRSPA environment demonstrate the importance of staff knowledge and behavior in preventing COVID-19. This study aims to describe the level of knowledge and behavior of Bimomartani BRSPA staff regarding COVID-19. This study used a quantitative descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample was drawn using a total sampling technique with 33 respondents. Data were collected through a validated questionnaire distributed online using Google Forms. Data analysis was conducted descriptively to illustrate the distribution of knowledge and behavior levels based on respondent characteristics. The study showed that 90.1% of respondents had good knowledge and behavior regarding COVID-19, while 9.9% had inadequate knowledge and behavior. Levels of knowledge and behavior were not evenly distributed across gender, age group, and education level. Furthermore, it was found that knowledge levels did not always align with preventive behaviors among some respondents. In general, Bimomartani BRSPA officers have good knowledge and behavior regarding COVID-19, but efforts are still needed to improve and equitably distribute health education to strengthen the consistent implementation of preventive behaviors.

Abstract

Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) acts as an upstream regulator that links chronic inflammation and oxidative stress through activation of the NF-κB pathway as well as the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), thereby contributing to the progression of various degenerative diseases. Ramie (Boehmeria nivea) kombucha is known to contain polyphenol compounds and bioactive organic acids that have the potential to act as nutraceutical agents, but the molecular mechanisms of their interaction with the TLR4 pathway are still not fully analyzed. This study used the network pharmacology and molecular docking approaches to evaluate the potential of bioactive compounds of hemp leaf kombucha in targeting TLR4 in silico. Analysis of protein networks shows that Toll-like Receptor 4 (TLR4) has a central role as the main binding protein in inflammatory pathways and oxidative stress based on the high degree of connectivity in protein–protein interaction networks. Molecular docking simulations show that all ligands are able to bind to the active site. The flavonoid compound catechin showed the most stable binding affinity with a value of −7.8 kcal/mol, followed by quercetin of −7.4 kcal/mol, while organic acid compounds such as D-glucuronic acid, gluconic acid, and citric acid were in the range of −4.8 to −5.9 kcal/mol. The stability of the ligand–receptor complex is confirmed by the Root Mean Square Deviation (RMSD) value ≤ 2 Å. The ligand–receptor interaction is dominated by the formation of hydrogen bonds and hydrophobic interactions on amino acid residues at the TLR4 binding site, which contributes to the stability of the complex.

Abstract

Inguinal hernia is a medical condition characterized by the protrusion of intra-abdominal organs through a weakness in the abdominal wall in the inguinal region. This condition is more common in men and can lead to serious complications such as incarceration and strangulation if not treated properly. The purpose of this study is to describe the clinical characteristics, risk factors, diagnosis, and management of recurrent inguinal hernia through case reports. The method used was a case study of a 60-year-old male patient presenting with severe pain in the lower right abdomen that radiated to the right scrotum. A physical examination revealed the presence of an irreducible right scrotal herniation. The patient had a history of previous bilateral hernioplasty and risk factors including heavy lifting activities. The diagnosis was established based on anamnesis and physical examination, followed by a herniotomy with mesh insertion. The results indicated that increased intra-abdominal pressure and tissue weakness contributed to the recurrence. In conclusion, recurrent inguinal hernia can occur due to persistent risk factors, and surgical treatment with mesh insertion is an effective definitive therapy to prevent further complications.

Abstract

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease characterized by persistent hyperglycemia. The rising prevalence of diabetes has increased interest in alternative therapies, including herbal medicines. Indonesia has abundant medicinal plants whose leaf extracts contain bioactive compounds with potential antidiabetic effects, yet scientific evidence regarding their effectiveness remains fragmented. Purpose: Therefore, this study aims to systematically review the potential of Indonesian plant leaf extracts in reducing blood glucose levels based on in vivo experimental studies. Method: A systematic review was conducted by following the PRISMA guidelines through a literature search on the Google Scholar and Science Direct databases. The articles analyzed were original studies published between 2020 and 2025 that focused on in vivo studies examining the potential of various leaf extracts to reduce blood glucose levels. Discussion: Phytochemical analysis indicates that leaf extracts may act effectively by providing antioxidant protection to pancreatic beta cells, increasing GLUT4 expression, and inhibiting digestive enzymes. Although their effects can rival standard drugs with a lower risk of hypoglycemia, the current literature still has limitations, particularly the short duration of in vivo testing and the lack of chronic toxicity data. Conclusion: Indonesian plant leaf extracts show promising potential as natural antihyperglycemic agents; nevertheless, further studies involving long-term toxicity evaluation, standardized extraction methods, and clinical trials are required to confirm their safety and effectiveness in humans.

Abstract

Physical activity plays an important role in maintaining cardiovascular health and preventing early cardiometabolic risk. However, global evidence indicates that a large proportion of adolescents do not meet the recommended levels of physical activity, which may negatively influence cardiovascular indicators such as resting heart rate (RHR). Elevated RHR has been widely recognized as an early marker of cardiovascular risk and autonomic imbalance. This study aimed to analyze the association between physical activity levels and resting heart rate among adolescents aged 20–24 years. This research employed an analytic observational design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 100 participants were recruited using convenience sampling from the Faculty of Medicine, Duta Wacana Christian University, Yogyakarta. Physical activity levels were assessed using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire Long Form (IPAQ-L), while resting heart rate was measured through radial pulse palpation after a five-minute seated rest. Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS software with Chi-square testing. The results showed that 47% of participants engaged in moderate physical activity, 24% in vigorous activity, and 29% in low activity. Most participants (62%) had a resting heart rate above 80 bpm. A significant inverse association was found between physical activity level and resting heart rate (p = 0.019), indicating that adolescents with higher levels of physical activity tended to have lower resting heart rates. In conclusion, moderate-to-vigorous physical activity is associated with healthier resting heart rate values, suggesting improved cardiovascular function in adolescents.

Abstract

Background: Periodontal disease is a chronic inflammatory disease that is closely related to the activity of biofilm-forming pathogenic bacteria, such as Porphyromonas gingivalis, Tannerella forsythia, and Treponema denticola. Conventional therapies using antibiotics often face limitations in the form of bacterial resistance and side effects. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are reported to have effective antibacterial and antibiofilm activity against a wide range of pathogenic microorganisms. Objective: This literature review aims to examine the potential of silver nanoparticles as antibacterial agents and antibiotics against bacteria that cause periodontal disease. Methods: Literature search was conducted through PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar scientific databases with relevant keywords. Results: The results of the study showed that AgNPs are able to inhibit the growth of periodontal bacteria through cell membrane damage, increased membrane permeability, disruption of intracellular metabolic processes, and inhibition of biofilm formation and maturation. Based on these findings, silver nanoparticles have the potential to be developed as an alternative or adjuvant therapy in the control of periodontal infections. Conclusion: However, further research is needed regarding safety and its clinical application.
