Based on this, researchers will conduct an analysis of the opportunities and challenges of sharia-compliant economic development in Indonesia. The results of this study are expected to make the public understand more about the future prospects of the Islamic economy in Indonesia. This study aims to find out about the opportunities and challenges of developing the Islamic economy in Indonesia with data acquisition techniques using secondary data obtained through journals, official websites, and other literature that has relevance to the topic

Abstract

This paper examined the role of waqf (endowment) on social welfare financing in Nigeria. Waqf, an endowment (donation), is one social welfare tool in Islam guided by Islamic law. Sustainable wellbeing is one of the goals of Waqf. This is one of the means through which Islam finances charitable organizations. The expository method is used in this work. In order to properly utilize permanent societal contributions, the institution of waqf can fill the void as a social finance institution by offering intermediation services. The waqf's flexible regulations allow it to offer a broad range of social services and to assist recipients directly or through financial institutions. The paper explained the concept of waqf and made a case for the practical applications of waqf; it recommended more public awareness of the institution and a more efficient means of leveraging the potential of altruistic giving for improved economic outcomes in the targeted social segments of society.

Abstract

This study aims to elaborate the implementation of management model in empowering waqf land in the Lamsiteh village, and its impact on improving the community welfare. Lamsiteh village has land waqf managed by Baitul Mal Aceh (BMA) as nazhir. Therefore, it is vital to analyze the management, outcome and impact of the land waqf towards the comunity. This research was conducted qualitatively with interview and documentation procedures compiled through the data reduction, verification and drawing conclusions. The welfare of the village community was measured by using Maqashid Syariah indicators. Based on the results, it shows that the management of productive waqf of rice fields is carried out with a profit-sharing system (mukhabarah). The allocation of waqf results is still intended for consumptive dan religion purposes (hifzul ad-din), so it is not fully optimal in improving community welfare. In fact, there are many solutions offered, including intertwining partnerships with stakeholders to be able to finance management and empowerment waqf land, professional nazirs in managing productive waqf, and improving community welfare with comprehensive Maqashid Syari'ah are something that are still relevant to discuss. Keywords: Community welfare; Management model; Waqf land empowermentJEL Classification:  For papers in the economics field only.

Abstract

Poverty is one of main issues, and the solutions for which are still being worked into. Waqf emerges as an instrument to reduce poverty and at the same time to improve public wellbeing. The objective of this research is to answer the question whether waqf has some degree of impacts on the three dimensions of welfare, i.e., income, health, and education, as seen from the roles of the recipients. Here qualitative method was used to answer the question. The data was harvested via interviews and documentation, and its credibility was preserved through triangulation. This study finds that sustainable social wellbeing has been achieved although the attainment only covers the basic needs due to the small economic scale and the absence of the element of modern agribusiness, which is an effort to increase the value of the agricultural product. The inhibiting factor lies in the branch-level management caused by non-procedural system administration, the non-performance of documentation, incompetent human resource, and small business capital. The originality of this study is observable in the attempt of answering whether waqf can become a solution for attaining sustainable social wellbeing and of seeking a management that can further increase the impact of waqf on the said social wellbeing

Abstract

Islamic finance, grounded in Shariah principles and ethical guidelines, has emerged as a pivotal tool for socioeconomic development. Waqf, an Islamic endowment, holds significant potential to address social welfare and economic challenges. This study proposes a framework for establishing an Islamic Waqf Bank in Nigeria to drive economic growth and financial inclusion. The framework integrates the ethical principles of Waqf with modern financial practices, aiming to foster poverty alleviation, education, healthcare, and infrastructure development. Key components include a robust governance structure to ensure transparency and accountability, innovative financial products aligned with Waqf principles, and strategic focus on projects yielding sustainable community benefits. The paper also examines legal and regulatory requirements, ensuring compliance with Shariah jurisprudence and national banking laws. Challenges such as limited awareness, regulatory hurdles, and cultural misconceptions are identified, alongside mitigation strategies to enhance feasibility and sustainability. By leveraging Nigeria's socioeconomic landscape, the proposed Islamic Waqf Bank framework offers a transformative model for addressing pressing economic needs while adhering to Islamic financial ethics

Abstract

Malaysia's population, estimated at 33.7 million in 2023, continues to grow with an annual population growth rate of 0.2 per cent, thus increasing the need for robust food security measures. Despite this, the country struggles with self-sufficiency in basic food production, heavily relying on imports, which resulted in a food trade deficit increased to RM31 billion in 2022 compared to RM25 billion deficit in 2021. Conversely, waqf, an Islamic endowment, presents a unique opportunity for wealth distribution and societal benefit. However, current governance practices in waqf institutions suffer from inadequate management, transparency, and skilled human resources, resulting in the proliferation of idle waqf lands. If effectively strategized, these lands could be optimally utilized for national food security initiatives in Malaysia. This study aims to explore successful global best practices in maximizing waqf land for food security. Examples are including legal reforms to harmonize the regulatory framework governing waqf properties, adopting more flexible and innovative financial models such as PPPs, cash waqf and corporate waqf, through community involvement, using of modern technology and innovative farming techniques such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS), blockchain, and precision agriculture, and so on. The research adopts a qualitative approach, analyzing primary and secondary materials through governing statutes, reported cases, semi-structured interviews, and data from respective administrative bodies. Aligning with national policies like the Shared Prosperity Vision 2030 and the National Agrofood Policy 2.0, this study aims to provide best practices and lessons learned, as well as recommendations for legal frameworks, strategies, policies, and guidelines to enhance sustainable agriculture and community welfare. The ultimate goal is to ensure a secure and sustainable food supply in Malaysia

Abstract

Climate change poses significant risks to real estate, including extreme weather events, rising sea levels, and shifting climate patterns, threatening property integrity, and market value, and increasing maintenance and insurance costs. Traditional real estate markets often react, resulting in inadequate short-term solutions. In contrast, waqf, which focuses on everlasting endowment and communal benefit, provides a proactive and comprehensive approach to the management of real assets. Sustainability and long-term management in waqf can mitigate property price impacts. This study aims to explore the potential of waqf in addressing climate change impacts on real estate, emphasizing how its principles can be leveraged to enhance resilience and sustainability in the real estate sector. The research adopts a qualitative approach, analyzing primary and secondary materials through governing statutes, reported cases, and data from respective administrative bodies. This study finds waqf properties can be designated for uses promoting environmental sustainability, such as green spaces, conservation areas, and sustainable agriculture. By preserving natural environments, waqf properties can buffer against climate-related disasters, protecting nearby real estate and maintaining property values. In addition, waqf can provide financial assistance for climate adaptation and mitigation initiatives by reinvesting income into projects that improve climate resilience, such as improvements to infrastructure, energy-efficient building retrofits, and the development of early warning platforms. However, integrating waqf in addressing climate change impacts faces challenges, including legal and administrative hurdles, lack of awareness, and the need for capacity building. All in all, by leveraging its principles of sustainability, community benefit, and long-term stewardship, waqf can enhance the resilience of real estate assets and contribute to sustainable urban development
