The objective of the study was to find out whether or not Dictogloss is effective in improving students’ listening achievement to the tenth grade students of SMA N 3 Palembang. The method of the study was quasi – experimental design, non – equivalent control group design. The sample of this study was 40 students which was selected from class X Mipa 2 to be sample. The data were collected by using listening test which consisted of 50 questions. In analyzing the data, paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test were used. Based on the results of statistical analyses, it was found that t-obtained was 8.437, which was 0.05 of the level significance with the degree of freedom (df) 19 with the critical value of t-table 2.0930. so it can be concluded that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected, because t-obtained( -8.437) higher than t-table (2.0930) and significance level P (.000) was lower than α (0.05). it mean that there was significance difference between the tenth grade students of SMA N 3 Palembang who were taught through Dictogloss and those who were not. It also indicated that Dictogloss could improve the students’ listening achievement of tenth grade students of SMA N 3 Palembang. Key words : Improving, listening, and dictogloss.

This study was entitled “An Analysis of Deixis in Black Swan Movie Script”. The problems of this study were what types of deixis are used in Black Swan Movie Script? and what is the dominant deixis used in Black Swan Movie Script? The objectives of this study were to find the types of deixis and to find the dominant of deixis in Black Swan Movie Script. This study only focused on movie script. This study was purposed to find out the types and the dominant of deixis are used in Black Swan Movie Script. This script got from internet. The study applied descriptive qualitative method. The following steps, it applied was the first, this study looked for the movie, the second, this study watched the movie, then, looked for the movie script of the movie “Black Swan”, the fourth, this study identified the sentence of the movie script based on four types of deixis. From the analysis, it is found that there are four types; personal deixis, spatial deixis, temporal deixis, and discourse deixis and the most dominant deixis used in Black Swan Movie Script is personal deixisKeyword : deixis, Black Swan, and Movie Script

The aims of this study were to find out theprogress in students’ writing achievement after they were taught by using blogs, and to find out the significant difference in students’ writing achievement between the students who were taught by using blogs and those who were not. A quasi-experimental method was used in this study. The population of the study was all the students in Faculty of Economic at Indo Global Mandiri University in the academic year 2014/2015. The sample consisted of 40 students where 20 students for experimental group and 20 students for control group, and was selected by using purposive sampling. In order to get the data, a test was used. The data was obtained in the form of writing test. The test was given twice, to the experimental and control groups, as pre-test and post-test. The result of the test was analyzed by using t-test through SPSS program. The finding showed that (1) There were some progresses in students’ writing due to the use of blog during the teaching and learning activities, and (2) There was a significant difference between the students who were taught by using blogs and those who were not. In this globalization era, English is very prominent for many people all over the world starts from students in elementary school till students in university level. The students are expected to master English language both in oral and written communication. If the students are able to master English, they can use it to interact and socialize with people who are not only from Indonesia but also from other countries. Therefore, to see whether or not the students succeed inmastering English, the test must be administered. This articleaims to discuss miscellaneous of tests which can be used in teaching and learning environment. Some conclusions and suggestions are made to ensure both the teacher and students will gain benefits from these types of English language test.Keyword : types, English language, test

Speaking and writing skills are very prominent for the students to actively interact and to get involved in spoken and written communication. However, these are regarded as difficult skills to master by the students. The researchersthen would like to carry out the research in terms of using picture-series to cope with the students’ speaking and writing problem. The objective of this research were: (1) to find out whether picture-series significantly improve the speaking and writing achievement of the EFL undergraduate students, (2) to find out the significant difference in speaking and writing achievement between the students who were taught by using picture series and those who were not. A quasi-experimental study of non-equivalent pretest- posttest control group design or comparison group design was used in this research. The population of this research was all undergraduate students of Civil Engineering study program of Indo Global Mandiri University in the academic year of 2014/2015. Forty students were taken as sample and selected by using purposive sampling technique in which each group consisted of 20 students, respectively. The findings showed that (1) there was a significant improvement on the speaking and writing achievement of the experimental group where the tobtained of the speaking and writing achievement were 12.197 (p<0.000) and 18.710 (p<0.000), (2) there was also a significant difference between the speaking writing and achievement of the experimental and control group where tobtained were 2.916 (p<0.000) and 3.949 (p<0.000). Therefore, it could be concluded that the picture series-based instruction statistically and significantly improves the speaking and writing achievement of the EFL undergraduate students. The purpose of this study to find out whether or not writing drills to improve the second year students’ literacy skills as observed at SMP Negeri 1 Palembang. The population of this study consisted of eight classes with 156 male students and 154 female students. The population of this study are 320 students of the second year students of SMP Negeri 1 Palembang. The total number of sample was 80 students. A quasi experimental method was used in this study. The data collected by means of a pre-test given to both groups before the treatment and a post-test given after the treatment to both groups. To check whether the application of the instruction could run well as it was designed. the students were evaluated using t-test analysis of statistical product and service solution (SPSS) version 12 to run the analyses and interpreted quantitatively and qualitatively to satisfy the objectives of the study. The result showed that there was a significant acceleration in terms of the students’ reading and writing skills, and there was a positive respond towards this instruction. In conclusion, writing drills can improve the second year students’ literacy skills. Thus, the proposed instruction for reading and writing skills through writing drills either conceptually or practically is plausible to apply in any subjects, especially in reading and writing classes.Key Words :literacy skills, writing drills

The main problem of this study was the effective to teach time by using realia to the eighth grade students of SMP PTI Palembang. The objective of this study was to find out whether or not it is effective to teach time by using realia to the eight grade students of SMP PTI Palembang. This study used the quasi-experimental method. The written test was used to collect the data and it was analyzed by using mathched t- test. The population of this study was all the three grade of SMP PTI Palembang in the academic year of 2013/2014. The sample of the study was taken from the population cluster random sampling. Based on the result on the study, it was found that was effective to teach time by using realia to the eight grade of SMP PTI Palembang. The average score of the students in the post-test of the experimental group was 88,13. Meanwhile, the average score in the post-test control group was 85,37. In short, Ha was accepted than Ho. On the other hand, the use of realia is an effective way to teach time to the eight grade students of SMP PTI Palembang. Key words : using realia, quasi experimental method, population.

The problem of this research is "how bilingual teaching in foreign language acquisition for young children?". The purpose of this study is the bilingual teaching in foreign language acquisition of children in teaching and learning in early childhood Happy Kids Palembang.The population in this study were all students of early childhood Happy Kids in Palembang. Samples taken 36 people from the class LG. This research method is descriptive qualitative method. Data obtained by observation and interviews.Based on the findings, the authors state that teachers use bilingual teaching for teaching and learning in the classroom. And it is used almost every activity they have done. In using bilingual teaching teachers use behavior directly and indirectly. They speak two languages (bilingual) at once in the form of sentences or utterances. From the data obtained in the above, it was found that teachers need only Indonesian and English as media language during the learning process. And the teachers never use their mother tongue or local language during their teaching and learning processes.From research conducted by the author revealed the importance of teaching bilingual in acquiring a foreign language in early childhood so that they have the basic foreign language skills as early as possible, broaden their knowledge of the language through conversations using simple sentences, mastery of vocabulary, sings a song in foreign language so that the child accustomed to a foreign language.Keywords : Bilingual teaching, language acquisition.

This study aimed at seeing whether the use of tourism brochures was effective to improve students’ achievement in writing descriptive text. In particular, it sought to find out whether tourism brochures was an effective means for generating ideas in writing descriptive text. The design selected for this study was a quasi-experimental study using nonequivalent pretest posttest design. The population of the study was all eighth grade students at SMP Karya Ibu Palembang. This study involved 262 students of the eighth graders. The sample was purposively chosen as the sample of the study in which 20 students belonged to the experimental group and 20 students belonged to the control group. The data were obtained by means of writing test as the instruments. The study lasted one and half months in that during the treatment, the student were exposed to a wide range of writing activities including process writing particularly a prewriting activity by using tourism brochures. The result shows that there was a significant difference among the writing test mean scores before and after they were exposed to tourism brochures and there was a significant difference in students’ test scores between the students who were taught by tourism brochures and those who were not. The research findings revealed that the use of tourism brochures was effective to improve students’ writing achievement. These findings were also supported by the significant improvement in writing achievement between the two groups in terms of the six aspects of writing (topic sentence, supporting detail sentence, concluding sentence, word choice, mechanics and grammar, sensory details). The results of the pre-test and post-test showed a positive response that tourism brochures was very helpful for the students in improving their descriptive writing achievement especially in generating, gathering, exploring and organizing their ideas prior to writing a descriptive text. The study was expected to yield a better quality of writing and build writing habit among students in a greater scale.Key Word: Writing achievement, Tourism brochures, Descriptive text

This study was aimed to see whether or not role play technique was effective to improve students’ speaking ability. The research design selected wasnon–equivalent control group design. The population of the study was all tenth grade students at SMA Negeri 3 Palembang. Purposive sampling was used to select the sample of the study in which 20 students belong to the experimental group and 20 students belong to the control group.There was a significant difference mean scores before and after they were exposed to role play technique (to 39.511, p<0.05) and the tt was 2.0244 there was a significant difference in students’ test scores between the students who were taught through role play technique and those who were not. The research finding revealed that role play technique was effective to improve students’ writing ability. these finding were also supported by the significant improvement in speaking ability between the in term of the four aspects of speaking (pronounciation, vocabulary, grammar and fluency) (p=0.000<0.005).
