Abstract

This paper investigates the productivity of words ending in -ing through exploring three novel examples namely: adulting, social distancing, and trolling. Through the use of corpus-based methodologies using the NOW corpus, the study determined the semantic meaning of the selected novel words through collocations and identified the syntactic behavior and functions of -ing in each word by utilizing an automated part-of-speech (POS) tagger.  This study aims to answer the following questions: 1) What is the semantic meaning of adulting, trolling, and social distancing in Philippine context and 2) what are the syntactic functions of ‘-ing’ in adulting, trolling, and social distancing. Part of the discussion is determining the pedagogical implications of the results of the study in language teaching and learning and identifying any grammatical feature associated with the use of adulting, trolling, and social distancing that may be of significance to Philippine English.

Abstract

Despite the Tanzanian Government’s efforts in promoting its Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to address problems facing their surrounding communities, the strategy has insufficiently institutionalized to bring the expected results. This study is an endeavor to have an assessment of Community Engagement Program which was established as among the strategies of stimulating the Community Development Training Institutes (CDTIs) and Community Development Technical Training (CDTTIs) to perform their Social Responsibilities. A cross- sectional research design was adopted to obtain a sample of 160 respondents. Data were collected using Questionnaires, Key Informants’ Interview (KII) and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) methods and analyzed by using SPSS and content analysis. The study revealed that, financial budget allocated to facilitate the program operations is insufficient. Subsequently the insufficient budget is negatively influencing the program implementers to find shortcuts in following the program operational procedures as a result some of the felt needs of the intended beneficiaries are precluded. Moreover, the program’s undertakings are inadequately disclosed to attract support from other potential development partners. In order for the program to effectively accomplish the ideal objective of its establishment, it is recommended the government in collaboration with other stakeholders to mobilize and inject sufficient financial and other related resources.

Abstract

This study focuses on the challenges experienced by caregivers in managing temper tantrums. The study was motivated by the constant quest for Early Childhood Development in Zimbabwe which is facing a plethora temper tantrum managing challenges. It is against this backdrop that this study x-rayed the caregivers’ understanding and challenges faced thereof in managing temper tantrums in day care centres in Epworth, Mabvuku and Tafara (EPMAFARA) district in Harare Province. The study was guided by the constructivist paradigm backed up by the Bio-Ecological theory under the qualitative approach to research. A case study design was used, drawing on five day care centres which were purposively sampled, to provide rich data. Caregivers’ experiences were tracked via in-depth interviews, class observations and document analysis. Results of the study indicated caregivers’ partial understanding of infant and toddler temper tantrums. The commonest temper tantrums were, crying, throwing objects around, rolling on the floor and screaming among others. Results showed mixed operational challenges coupled with speculative intervention strategies to curb tantrums. Findings also revealed that teachers who participated in the study were not all professionally trained and could not effectively incorporate theories of child development into their pedagogical practices. Further findings revealed that day care centres were running without government policy on early childhood education for infants and toddlers. It is recommended to policy makers to come up with a policy which clearly articulates the education ideology for infants and toddlers in the country.

Abstract

The present study aims to examine the interaction of teacher’s personality in accordance to self-fulfilling prophecy. Especially, the purpose of this survey is to investigate the role of teachers’ self-fulfilling in the crucial of education and if and in which extend it is influenced by the personality of every teacher. No one can dispute that self-fulfilling prophecy is so important that it can determine the interactions between teachers and students. This specific investigation resulted from the literature review carried out and from conducting a quantitative survey on a sample of 291 teachers the period January- May 2024 in Greece. From the analysis that followed, it emerged that factors such as gender, age, political ideology, receptivity to experience, the degree of intragroup valence do not contribute to the strengthening of self-fulfilling prophecy.. On the contrary, the degree of social hierarchy and authoritarianism are decisive factors that affect teachers’ self-fulfilling

Abstract

The abstract contains a brief description of the purpose: describes the objectives and In recent years, a new system has introduced itself to the world: Artificial intelligence (AI). Artificial intelligence, an active educator, has begun to take its place in our lives every day. Therefore, it has also taken its place in the education and training system. Artificial intelligence, which is also used in mathematics education, has become one of the shaping effects of the future. Therefore, it is important for education to start from a young age. The main purpose of this study is to explain the artificial intelligence system consisting of mathematical data in the language of primary school students and to increase mathematical curiosity with fun activities and applications. For this purpose, forty-five 4th grade students were studied. The study is a mixed-design study including quantitative and qualitative methods. Since the subject of data processing in mathematics was explained in the study, a pre- and post-test of success was applied. In addition, the opinions of the students were analyzed for the activities performed. In the light of the findings obtained from the study, it was observed that the students' mathematical success increased with simple artificial intelligence applications. In addition, the students whose opinions were taken stated that they discovered the relationship of the artificial intelligence system with the subject of data processing in mathematics as a result of the applications performed and that this increased their mathematical curiosity. These applications and evaluations developed suggestions for more artificial intelligence studies, especially in mathematics classes, at the primary school level.

Abstract

The widespread integration of digital technology in education, accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, has led to a shift in student preferences toward online learning. This poses a significant challenge for teachers to maintain student motivation and engagement in traditional classroom settings without risking a decline due to the ingrained reliance on virtual education methods. This study explores the dynamic integration of technology into daily educational practices, specifically through the lens of gamification, with a focus on teachers' and students' perceptions of utilising Book Widgets to augment teaching and learning experiences. Employing a qualitative approach and adopting a case study design, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 10 Grade 5 students from a girls-only private primary school in Saudi Arabia. Simultaneously, online questionnaires were distributed to teachers in Saudi Arabia using Book Widgets, through convenience and voluntary sampling. Thematic analysis, facilitated by the Atlas-ti Software, was employed to derive meaningful insights from the collected data. The research highlights the effectiveness of Book Widgets in boosting both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation among students, prompting teachers to strategically use Book Widgets as a tool for increased engagement and participation, particularly in primary school settings. Establishing Book Widgets as a valuable instrument for fostering motivation and engagement, the implications for optimising integration into educational practices to enhance student involvement further, are evident.
