Abstract

Man is never separated from the desires in the fulfillment of his life. The development of life also affects the form of human desire. The influence of materialism is sometimes human hedonism which is sometimes incompatible with Hindu ethics. But Epicurean Hedonism has a different view to hedonism in general. This paper aims to describe Epikuros's thoughts related to Hedonism. The pleasure-oriented attitude of hedonism is different from Epikuros hedonism that not only seeks material pleasure but also seeks spiritual pleasure. Spiritual pleasure can make man calm and wise, such situations are commonly called anarakxia. The hedonism taught by Epikuros aligns with the teachings on Hindu ethics that not only pursue earthly pleasures but are led to try to control themselves from earthly pleasures in order to achieve the happiness of life. The benefits of this paper can contribute to the understanding of the intersection between Epicurean thought and Hindu ethical views.

Based on the facts, space commodification can be identified. On the one hand commodification can produce material benefits, while on the other hand it can be a threat to the religious religiosity of the community and the sanctuary area of Tanah Lot Temple which has the status of a heavenly heavenly temple. The sacred area of Tanah Lot Temple as a cultural capital which is a tourist attraction in the development of tourism in the village of Berraman Beraban contains magical religious meaning. Conceptually this religious meaning reflects changes in cultural capital is expected not to have a negative impact on religious teachings that are believed by the manners of Desa Pakraman Beraban. It is hoped that tourism culture will not damage the culture of Pakraman Beraban Village which is imbued with Hinduism. Although tourism culture seems to be very prominent in the space of Desa Pakraman Beraban religiosity remains firmly rooted in the life of the Pakraman village based on tri hita karana. Therefore, the preservation of the existence of Hinduism also means the preservation of tourism sustainability in the village of Pakraman Beraban.

Abstract

Lately there have been many debates and open discussions on social media related to the problem of clashing beliefs between Balinese Hinduism and Hare Khrisna (HK).One literacy that deserves to be an important reference is the work carried out by Prof. Dr. Litt. Dr. I Gusti Putu Phalgunadi, M.A., entitled A Brief History of the Evolution of Hinduism. This article analyzes and traces Prof. Phalgunadi's thoughts in describing the evolution of Hinduism from 1) the Sindhu River Valley Civilization (3,000 SM-2000 SM), 2) the Vedic Period (2000 SM-1000 SM), 3) the Brahmin Age (1,000 SM-300 M), 4) The Purana Period: The Golden Age of Hindu Religion and Culture (300 M- 700 M), 5) The Reformation Age of Hinduism (Sangkaracharya Period 700 M-1,200 M), 6) The Age of the Bhakti Movement (1,200 M-1,800 M) and 7) the Movement Modern Hinduism (1,800 M-1947 M). The current debate between Hindu Bali and Hare Khrisna clearly has a different frame as the evolution in Hinduism itself, moreover this debate is taking place in the territory of Republic Indonesia so that it must pay attention to the constitution which applies "dharmaning agama dharmaning nagara".

Abstract

This article describes the philosophical values contained in a building structure that has Tri Pitama elements, namely the three main pillars informing the building concept. The three pillars are adapted to the science of negotiation (Balinese architecture), namely the aspects of tattwa, morals, and events. The three pillars form the head, body, and feet of every Balinese building structure. This concept is philosophically aligned with the aspects of Bhuwana Agung and Bhuwana Alit. The next tendency is to balance it because tri pitama is the embodiment of philosophical concepts related to Tri Hita Karana, Tri Angga, Tat Twam Asi, Tri Loka, Kala Patra Village, Dewata Nawa Sanga, and Rwa Bhineda. Abstract

The Rajaswala ceremony is one of the yadnya ceremonies carried out by parents with the hope that the child is aware of his physical and psychological growth. For Hindus, this ceremony is a model of self-control and preventing unwanted things. The process of the Rajaswala Ceremony is essentially a ngayab ceremony like Sabuh Rah because in other Manusa Yad ceremonies there is no such thing as Sabuh Rah's ngayab ceremony. The process of the Rajaswala ceremony contains the intention of a human effort to purify a child who is just increasing adolescence, for children who are experiencing menstruation for the first time. The meaning and purpose of the Rajaswala Ceremony is also related to the meaning and function of the Manusa Yadnya ceremony, which is to purify and nurture and educate humans both physically and mentally.

Abstract

Pluralism is a social fact that forms the basis of diversity. But in reality, it does not only give rise to cooperation but also conflict. In the context of religious harmony, theoretical and practical participation from religious elements becomes significant and effective. The shared perception of plurality is an important starting point in determining the next strategic steps. To weave a diversity and produce results without assimilating conflicts, religious dialogue is an ideal way to get to know and understand each other. From there, the pearls of discouraged policies are revealed and become important references for realizing collective expectations. The issue of plurality and harmony is a real challenge for religions, including Hinduism. However, Hindus are very aware, accept, and even highly appreciate plurality as a consequence of life. Every being, be it individual, group identity, religious identity, all have the right to good treatment and respect.

Abstract

Existentialism is not just a philosophy that studies the existence of humans, but places human as the main existence. Sartre can be said to be the central figure in this philosophy, which states that existence precedes essence. In his ontology, Sartre strictly divides étre-en-soi (Being-in-itself) and étre-pour-soi (Being-for-inself). Where the first is created objects without consciousness, and the second is human with counsciousness. According to Sartre, humans want to be both étre-en-soi and étre-pour-soi, that is to be perfect, but they cannot. Perfection (étre-en-soi-étre-pour-soi) belong to God. Sartre’s pessimism can be traced through the Vedānta discourse, which optimistically states that human nature is perpect, and humans are capable of making themselves perfect.
