Abstract

The meaning of a mosque is not just a place of worship, but a place where civilization runs so that prosperity is needed in the mosque. This research aims to determine how the management process of the Al-Ikhlas Mosque, Bareng urban village, and Malang City is trying to reconstruct the true meaning of the mosque. The theory used in this study was the social construction of Peter L. Berger. This theory is useful for analyzing the social construction of the Al-Ikhlas Mosque in building civilization and the prosperity of the mosque through three processes: externalization, objectification, and internalization. This research uses qualitative methods with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, documentation, and relevant literature studies. The informants of this research were two mosque takmir administrators who were selected using a purposive sampling technique to ensure that the data generated were accurate. The results showed that there is a social construction in the management of the Al-Ikhlas Mosque, which is divided into three processes. The first is reflected in the response of the community, who needs a mosque as a center of civilization and prosperity for the people. Second, the objectification process through various mosque management activities such as the existence of the Happy Market, EkoMas (Al-Ikhlas Mosque Economy), Rukun Kematian, S3 (Sedekah Seribu Sehari), Sports Venue and routine studies. Third, the internalization process obtained by the community and mosque administrators through the primary socialization process from the family and secondary socialization from the surrounding environment, which is then passed down to the next generation, namely the mosque congregation, through routine studies. Through these three social construction processes, mosque management is created that aims to build a center of civilization and prosperity for the people.

The main objective of this article is to analyze the active role of women in the social changes that occurred at that time, as well as to describe how their contributions shaped social transformation in Arab society at the time of Prophet Muhammad. The research method used is literature analysis by collecting and examining various relevant textual sources, including the Quran, Hadith, and Anthony Giddens' works on social change. The results of the analysis show that women played a significant role in the process of social renewal during Prophet Muhammad. They were not only involved in religious struggles, but also contributed to various areas of life, including politics, economics, and education. Women also play an important role in supporting changes in social norms, including gender equality and the protection of women's rights. Anthony Giddens' perspective in this analysis provides a broader understanding of the role of women in social change. Concepts such as agency, social structure, and reflective action help explain how women contribute to shaping and changing the existing social systems. This study makes an important contribution to the understanding of the role of women in social history and development. Understanding the contribution of women in reforming the social system during the time of Prophet Muhammad can provide inspiration and insight for inclusive and equitable social development efforts.

Abstract

The practice of gender equality in religious settings is often the subject of controversy and debate. This article examines the social construction of gender equality practices implemented in Wahidiyah, an Islamic religious institution that includes Shalawat Wahidiyyah, Islamic Boarding Schools, and Islamic Education Institutions, from kindergarten to university level. This study uses a sociological approach and Social Construction theory analysis to understand how the practice of gender equality in Wahidiyah is realized and understood by its congregation. Through qualitative data collection involving interviews, observations, and analysis of relevant documents, this study analyzed various aspects of social construction involved in the practice of gender equality in Wahidiyah. The results show that the practice of gender equality in Wahidiyah is a social reality that is deliberately built to dynamise the organization. The selection of leadership figures in institutions under Wahidiyah is based on individual qualifications and competencies regardless of gender. This social construction is seen by the congregation as a vehicle for healthy competition, where every congregation who has the qualifications and competencies in accordance with the needs of the organization has the opportunity to become part of the leadership. However, it is important to note that this pattern was not based on open elections. Instead, these individuals are appointed by the Muallif, taking into account loyalty, ability, and relevant educational qualifications. The practice of gender equality in Wahidiyah, in this way, reflects the existence of social constructs that lead to the building of a dynamic and inclusive organization. This article contributes to broadening our understanding of the practice of gender equality among Muslims, particularly in the Pesantren context. By focusing on aspects of social construction, this article presents a more comprehensive perspective on how the practice of gender equality in Wahidiyah is implemented and interpreted through its congregation.

Abstract

From the perspective of religion, positive law, and noble values that develop in society, Toto Gelap (togel) gambling is considered a negative behavior. However, in reality, gambling is still favored by the community, including the youth of the Klaten Selatan sub-district, who are supposed to be agents of change. This study aimed to analyze the practice of dark toto gambling from the perspective of Islamic Law Sociology. This research includes qualitative research using a sociological approach in which the Theory of Social Behavior is used as an analytical knife. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation.  The results showed that the existence of togel gambling can be described in several practice patterns, including gambling patterns for profit, gambling patterns for entertainment, gambling patterns to try luck, and gambling patterns due to easy access to play. The playing factors are the benefit factors and players’ perceptions of gambling. Gambling on a togel is included in the category of operant behavior, where gambling behavior can be formed and learned from a learning process, and is prone to be repeated because there are benefits of gambling on the togel.

Abstract

This article discusses environmental theology in Islam and Christianity, namely, the thoughts of Seyyed Hossein Nasr and Joseph Sittler. In Islam, there is a very important concept of khalifah, in which humans are tasked with protecting and maintaining their natural environment. Meanwhile, in Christianity, the concept of nature’s sacredness teaches that the environment is evidence of God's love that must be well preserved. This article focuses on the thought maps of Seyyed Hossein Nasr and Joseph Sittler in the context of environmental conservation and how the relationship between humans, God, and nature is implemented in life. This study used a literature review method. Data collection and analysis were performed based on the data collected from various scientific sources from the two figures. In addition, data were obtained from various sources relevant to the writing theme. In this comparative study, the thoughts of Seyyed Hossein Nasr and Joseph Sittler are compared in terms of the basic concept of thought, views on the relationship between humans, God, and nature, and the implications of thought for environmental action. In the comparison, it was found that both agreed that the environment must be well preserved and that humans must be responsible for the sustainability of the environment. However, there are differences in their views on the relationship between humans, God, and nature, and how environmental actions can be taken. From the analysis and discussion, it can be concluded that the ideas of the two figures converge in the understanding that humans must begin to change their paradigm towards nature. That nature is a manifestation of God's love; even nature is an emanation of God's presence that must be treated and preserved as humans treat themselves. If so, then it is possible for the sustainability of nature to be easily realized. In the future, it will be possible to realize the continuity of a more moral human civilization.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the dynamics of ugamo malim adherents in fighting civil rights. The research used qualitative methods through observation, documentation, and in-depth interviews with ugamo malim figures to understand the facts that exist in society. Furthermore, the researchers conducted data reduction before drawing conclusions. The results of the study show that people who adhere to ugamo malim are always faced with intolerance and discrimination. The incorrect understanding of the function and meaning of religion in life, including the views of the minority of ugamo malim adherents, makes it difficult for ugamo malim adherents to be accepted by the general public and government circles. The discriminatory actions felt by religious people from various regions in Indonesia united them in a social movement to gain official recognition from the state. Groups of adherents from various regions in Indonesia submitted a request for judicial review to the Constitutional Court (MK) and it was granted. The efforts of followers of ugamo malim to continue to exist and preserve the values and traditions of the Toba Batak people in social movement theory are called new social movements. The main and first social movement carried out by the ugamo malim community was marhamalimon. Through marhamalimons, various rituals were established, a new center of worship was established, and the organizational structure of the parmalim was also determined. Efforts to fight civil rights were also carried out by ugamo Malim through education. Various negative prejudices against ugamo malim people have been identified by various achievements in the field of education. Ugamo malim people have worked in many government and private institutions and occupy strategic positions.
