Abstract

Drawing on archival records, oral histories, and cultural artefacts, this article investigates how belief in the protective powers of amulets, talismans, charms, and other forms of African metaphysical social protection has shaped and sustained the protracted Bawku chieftaincy dispute between the Kusaas and Mamprusi from the late colonial era to the present. The study employs qualitative historical and ethnographic methods, combining colonial and postcolonial administrative documents with in‑depth interviews and detailed descriptions of ritual practices surrounding war garments, vanishing magic, and bodily fortification. The findings show that these spiritual‑material technologies do not merely accompany the conflict but actively influence decision‑making, risk‑taking, and attitudes toward violence, as many combatants perceive themselves as supernaturally shielded against bullets, blades, and other threats. This perceived immunity lowers fear of death, encourages offensive action, and weakens incentives to accept compromise or ceasefire, thereby undermining formal peacebuilding efforts led by governments, security forces, and civil society over more than six decades. Integrating insights from protection motivation theory, the article argues that amulets and talismans operate as culturally specific coping mechanisms that transform threat appraisal into a sense of control and empowerment, even in the face of repeated bloodshed. The study concludes that without explicitly engaging these metaphysical protection systems and their social meanings, interventions will continue to misdiagnose the roots of the Bawku conflict and risk reproducing the same ineffective outcomes.

Abstract

This study investigates how labour welfare influences economic output in Nigeria, aiming to clarify whether investments in workers’ well-being translate into sustained economic growth. Using annual macroeconomic data for 1990–2024, the analysis applies a human capital–based production framework and employs time series techniques, including unit root testing, cointegration analysis, and an error-correction–augmented Ordinary Least Squares model, to examine the long-run and short-run effects of labour welfare, education, health expenditure, government fixed capital formation, and recurrent expenditure on gross domestic product. The results show that labour welfare has a positive and statistically significant impact on economic output in the long run, indicating that better welfare conditions raise productivity and national income, while health expenditure also exerts a significant growth-enhancing effect. By contrast, education spending and recurrent expenditure do not significantly stimulate output, and government fixed capital formation exhibits a surprisingly negative and significant relationship with gross domestic product, suggesting inefficiencies, cost overruns, and abandoned infrastructure projects that fail to contribute to productive capacity. The error correction mechanism reveals a moderate speed of adjustment toward long-run equilibrium, and overall model diagnostics confirm a stable and well-specified relationship between labour welfare and economic output. These findings underscore that strengthening labour welfare, particularly through effective health investment, can be a powerful lever for boosting productivity and inclusive growth, but they also highlight the need to reform public investment management and reorient education and capital spending toward more efficient, growth-supporting uses.

Abstract

This article looks at the correct usage of language in communication and the importance of language in communication and advertising with specific reference to notices pamphlets and other documents with specific reference to Ndebele materials. This study examines the historical roots of current linguistic challenges. It explores the factors that have allowed the continued use of incorrect language in respected institutions a practice that burdens both language users and consumers of related products. The article further looks at the economic comparative advantage which companies should ride upon since they are dealing with language as an economic variable. It is out of this realisation that the lack of will at all levels despite the previous studies that were done and recommendations having been made the language has remained stifled which has necessitated the research of this nature. The study finds no coordinated effort among authors, linguists, publishers, and commissioning editors, who often work in isolation, resulting in the proliferation of linguistically inaccurate materials.  Translators should be involved since translation is a highly specialized especially where target audiences differ. Be it English to any indigenous languages or vice versa the practice should seek the services of experts in the discipline of translation and publishing.

Abstract

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into Islamic education has gained increasing scholarly attention, particularly in Qur’anic pedagogy. Among its dimensions, Tarannum the melodic art of Qur’anic recitation remains understudied in digital contexts despite its vital role in preserving cultural and spiritual heritage. This systematic literature review (SLR) investigates how AI can be applied to support Tarannum pedagogy while ensuring alignment with Islamic ethics, ecological awareness, and social justice. The article addresses two main objectives: first, to analyse how Tarannum can be preserved and enhanced through AI-based learning tools while remaining consistent with Islamic pedagogical principles; and second, to propose an ethical Islamic framework for AI-enabled Tarannum pedagogy grounded in maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah, trusteeship ethics, and principles of sustainability. The review follows the PRISMA protocol and systematically synthesises thirty nine peer reviewed articles published between 2010 and 2025. Data sources included Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar and ERIC with studies screened and categorised into four main themes: (1) AI in Qur’anic recitation and tajwīd learning, (2) Tarannum as cultural and pedagogical heritage, (3) Islamic ethics and AI governance, and (4) ecology and social justice in Islamic pedagogy. Findings show that while AI systems achieve high accuracy in tajwīd error detection and recitation recognition, Tarannum’s spiritual and aesthetic dimensions remain largely neglected in digital pedagogy. Islamic ethical frameworks provide strong conceptual guidance but require practical operationalisation. Moreover, ecological and social justice discourses are rarely connected to Tarannum education. This review concludes that a comprehensive framework integrating AI, Tarannum pedagogy, Islamic ethics, and sustainability is essential for advancing Qur’anic education that is both technologically innovative and spiritually authentic.

Abstract

The teaching of hadith to the younger generation is essential in fostering an authentic understanding of Islam and strengthening Muslim identity. However, the challenges of the digital era demand more creative, interactive, and contextually relevant approaches that align with contemporary learning styles. This article explores approaches to hadith instruction through the use of information technology, social media, mobile applications, and e-learning platforms. A qualitative method based on document analysis and literature review was employed to identify effective strategies such as multimedia integration, gamification-based learning, and the use of visual narratives in conveying the values of hadith. The study also highlights the crucial role of educators in guiding youth to distinguish authentic hadith from fabricated information circulating in cyberspace. Findings indicate that innovative digital approaches not only enhance students’ interest and comprehension but also strengthen their attachment to the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). This article recommends that digital innovations in hadith pedagogy be continuously enhanced and supported by curricula that are relevant to contemporary challenges.

Abstract

This article examines wife’s right to reject polygamy in the perspective of maslahah mursalah within the context of contemporary Islamic family law and Indonesian positive law. The study aims to clarify whether a wife’s refusal of polygamy can be normatively recognized as a legitimate legal and ethical stance that safeguards justice and family welfare. Using a qualitative, normative legal methodology based on document and library research, the analysis draws on legislation, Qur’anic and Hadith texts, classical and contemporary fiqh, court decisions, and scholarly works on polygamy and maslahah mursalah. The findings show that polygamy in Islam is legally permitted but strictly conditioned on the husband’s ability to uphold justice in material and emotional terms, while Indonesian law adopts monogamy as the main principle and allows polygamy only as a limited exception under stringent procedural and substantive requirements, including court permission and the wife’s consent. Empirical indications, such as increasing divorce cases related to polygamy, and case law where courts reject polygamy petitions that fail to meet legal standards, demonstrate that polygamy often generates harm rather than welfare for wives and families. Through the lens of maslahah mursalah, the wife’s right to reject polygamy is interpreted as a legitimate effort to prevent psychological, social, and economic harm and to preserve the integrity and well-being of the family. The article concludes that recognizing this right is consistent with the objectives of Islamic law and strengthens the protective function of Indonesian family law, offering a doctrinal basis for more justice-oriented interpretations of polygamy regulations.

Abstract

The gold mining conflict in Tumpang Pitu, Banyuwangi, illustrates the clash between economic interests, environmental sustainability, and local community rights. This study aims to explore the relevance of environmental jurisprudence from an Islamic perspective, particularly in addressing ecological degradation and social inequality caused by mining activities. Using a qualitative case study approach, the research analyzes the environmental and social consequences of mining operations in Tumpang Pitu, focusing on Islamic principles such as environmental preservation, the objectives of Islamic law, and human responsibility as stewards of the earth. The findings reveal that the conversion of protected forests into production forests, driven by corporate and political interests, led to significant ecological damage, including floods and deteriorating water quality. Local communities, particularly fishermen, have suffered from the environmental degradation that mining caused. The study highlights how Islamic environmental jurisprudence provides a framework for ecological justice, advocating for sustainable practices and equitable resource distribution. It underscores the importance of integrating Islamic values into environmental policy and development, emphasizing the need for a holistic approach that combines spirituality, rationality, and social responsibility. Ultimately, this research calls for the adoption of environmental jurisprudence as a foundation for promoting ecological sustainability and justice in the face of modern industrial practices.

Abstract

This study examines Bulgaria’s institutional, infrastructural, and market readiness to develop specialized cold-chain logistics for agri-food exports to the MENA and Eurasian regions. Applying a qualitative methodology grounded in documentary analysis and SWOT evaluation, the research integrates national policy documents, legislative frameworks, and international indices to assess the coherence between agricultural production potential and logistical capabilities. Findings reveal a clear asymmetry between Bulgaria’s strong agroecological base and its limited institutional capacity to manage temperature-sensitive and certified exports. The absence of a unified national authority for certification, traceability, and cold-chain governance results in fragmented responsibilities and inefficiencies across ministries. Although Bulgaria benefits from favorable geography, access to EU funding, and inclusion in trans-European corridors, infrastructural specialization for perishable goods remains underdeveloped. The SWOT analysis identifies governance fragmentation and lack of refrigerated terminals as critical weaknesses, while opportunities arise from expanding halal markets and EU green logistics initiatives. The results confirm the hypothesis that institutional and infrastructural integration—rather than productive capacity—is the key determinant of Bulgaria’s export competitiveness. The study concludes that creating a national cold-chain and certification framework, aligned with EU and international standards, could reposition Bulgaria as a strategic logistics hub linking European production to dynamic MENA and Eurasian food markets.

Abstract

This article addresses the escalating global ecological crisis by reexamining the relevance of Islamic law through the lens of Green Maqashid, aiming to reconstruct the purposes of Islamic law so they respond adequately to contemporary environmental challenges. It seeks to demonstrate that the objectives of Islamic law (maqashid al-shari‘ah) possess an inherent ecological dimension that has not been systematically articulated within classical formulations. The study employs a qualitative, normative-conceptual methodology based on critical textual analysis of classical and contemporary maqashid scholarship, combined with an interdisciplinary engagement with Islamic environmental ethics and sustainability discourse. Drawing on modern maqashid theory, particularly systems-oriented and value-based approaches, the article develops the concept of Green Maqashid as an integrative framework. The main findings show that environmental protection can be coherently embedded within the structure of maqashid al-shari‘ah by reinterpreting its core objectives in relation to ecological balance, intergenerational justice, and public welfare. Green Maqashid reframes the protection of religion, life, intellect, progeny, and wealth through an ecological perspective, while also emphasizing environmental preservation as a foundational concern of Islamic law. The discussion highlights how this framework aligns Islamic normative principles with global sustainability agendas and provides ethical guidance for public policy, economic instruments, and community-based environmental initiatives. The article concludes that Green Maqashid offers a robust conceptual contribution to Islamic legal theory by expanding its moral horizon and practical relevance, with significant implications for developing environmentally responsible governance, sustainable economic practices, and faith-based ecological engagement.

Abstract

This study examines the integration of educational tourism (edu-tourism) and the creative economy in Kampung Inggris Pare, East Java, an educational village known for its non-formal English language learning ecosystem. The research aims to design a sustainable village development model based on Islamic economic values, emphasizing participation, justice, and general welfare. Using an exploratory descriptive qualitative approach, the study employs field observations, in-depth interviews, and a literature review to analyze the socio-economic dynamics shaping the community. The findings reveal a paradox: while Kampung Inggris Pare thrives as an educational hub, local community involvement in the tourism economy remains limited. Despite the growth of hundreds of language institutions attracting thousands of students monthly, most institutions operate independently, reducing local participation and limiting the economic multiplier effect. The study suggests that integrating the pentahelix collaboration framework and maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah principles can create an inclusive governance model for the development of Islamic edu-tourism. The proposed model connects language institutions, local businesses, village governments, academia, and media in a collaborative effort. The study contributes to the field by offering an Islamic Edu-Creative Tourism Governance Model, balancing economic growth, social justice, and moral integrity. These findings provide insights for future research and policy formulation, suggesting further exploration through mixed-methods approaches and comparative studies to deepen understanding and enhance the sustainability of community-based tourism in alignment with Islamic values.
