Abstract

The evaporation station has an important role in the sugar factory. This station aims to concentrate the sugar solution until it reaches its saturation point (± 60% Brix), so that the process of forming sugar crystals at the cooking station becomes easier. However, the evaporation station also contributes to the highest sucrose inversion compared other stations. Sugar solution (sucrose) is resistant to high temperatures, long periods of time, and low pH. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the evaporation station. To reduce the risk of sucrose inversion in the evaporation station, the sugar solution is heated in a pressure vessel (vacuum). Vacuum conditions can lower the boiling point of juice. Performance evaluation of evaporation station is measured by the total temperature drop (ΣΔT). The temperature drop is influenced by the distribution of pressure and temperature in evaporation, as well as the evaporation rate. The values of the parameters are compared with the literatures. The standard for the value of ΣΔT is 40, while the standard evaporation rate for the quadruple effect evaporation system with bleeding is 26 kg/(m2.hour). The results of the evaluation show that the highest ΣΔT value is 40.96 and the evaporation rate is 24.5 kg/(m2.hour), so it can be concluded that the operational condition of the evaporation station at PG Sindang Laut Cirebon is quite good. The evaporation system is also quite efficient. However, the evaporation rate is still categorized as inefficient

Abstract

Abstract

The importance of sugar makes every household life must have these sweeteners to meet daily needs. Stevia has several advantages including the level of sweetness that reaches 100-200 the sweetness of sugar cane and low calorie so safe to be consumed by diabetics and obesity. The possibilities of plants to grow on soil properties and fertility become an important issue in agricultural cultivation systems. In the case study conducted, this study looked at 4 behaviors that characterize the relationship between soil and Stevia, the relation was: (1) the condition of the soil and plants when water is lacking, (2) the condition of plants lacking nutrients, (3) differences in the type of soil and (4) conditions that contradict the growing conditions of Stevia. Data taken included: soil moisture content, soil NPK element content, plant and soil appearance descriptively and plant stevioxide content under stress conditions. The result stevia under stress conditions must be watered as much as 250 ml/day if below that the plant will wither in 1 week and if more than that the plant will experience root rot. Stevia which lacks nutrition when under stress will flower 1 month faster than usual, a condition where there are nutrients but high temperatures will trigger the wilt of stevia stems even though it has been watered 250 ml/day. This study also looked at the reaction of plants to different types of soil, where soils with more Stevia clay texture produce more leaves than those planted on sandy-textured soils.

Abstract

Abstract

Many tea plantations are planted on several slopes, this has the potential for soil erosion.  Eroded soil will cause a decrease in soil fertility and tea plant productivity. The ability of the soil in tea plantations needs to be tested against the run-off rate in laboratory experiments using a tool called a simple rainfall simulator (simulation of artificial rain). The study used a factorial randomized block design consisting of 2 factors, factor 1 (soil media) and factor 2 (rainfall) with 3 replications. Observation parameters are run off rate and infiltration volume. The results showed that the interaction of soil media with rainfall significantly affected the run off rate. Rainfall intensity >100 mm with andisol soil + manure showed a run off rate of 77% higher than andisol soil. The less land cover on the soil media, the higher the run off rate. In the treatment of andisol soil + manure gave the lowest infiltration volume. The denser the land cover vegetation and organic matter content, the more effective it is in protecting the soil surface from erosion because it can increase water absorption by the soil.
