Abstract

Information and communication tehnology (ICT) has brought changes in various aspects of life. ICT development in Indonesia as measured by the ICT development index has increased every year. However, until 2022 the value is still in the range of 5, while the ICT development target in 2030 is 8.00 out of 10.00. ICT development in Indonesia also faces inequality between Western and Eastern Indonesia. This study aims to identify variables influencing ICT development in Indonesia, Western Indonesia, and Eastern Indonesia using panel data regression. The results showed that GDP per capita, the percentage of productive-age population, and COVID-19 pandemic can increase ICT development in Western Indonesia, Eastern Indonesia, and nationally. Population density can increase ICT development in Western Indonesia and nationally. The percentage of government spending on ICT can increase ICT development nationally. The percentage of households with access to electricity can increase ICT development in Western Indonesia.

Abstract

Marriage is an important phase in human life, especially first marriage. Discussion of first marriage cannot be separated from the age of first marriage. This is because the age of first marriage is often associated with reproductive health and socioeconomic problems. In Indonesia, there is a tendency where the age of first marriage of women is increasing. On the other hand, early marriage is still found in rural areas. In fact, early marriage has a negative impact on mothers and children’s health. Therefore, this study is conducted to examine whether there was a difference in the age of first marriage in Indonesian by gender, region (village or city), and province also the difference in the average age of first marriage in 2009 and 2022. Research data is BPS data in 2009 and 2022 which was analyzed using non parametric differential tests, namely Mann-Whitney and Kruskall Wallis tests. Result shows that there is a difference in the average age of first marriage in 2009 compared to 2022. In addition, there is also a difference in the average age of first marriage by gender, domicile, and province.

Abstract

Beginning in 2010, downstreaming decreased the volume of LNG exports while increasing their value. As one of the six largest LNG exporting countries in 2022, Indonesia has the lowest export value, which should increase after downstreaming. Therefore, the impact of downstreaming and other factors on the value of Indonesian LNG exports will be explored. The study used descriptive analysis and Error Correction Mechanism (ECM). The average value of LNG exports after downstreaming has gone up. The value of LNG exports is positively correlated with mining and quarrying GDP and exchange rate; however, world LNG prices are adversely associated. According to ECM, downstreaming only has a long-term impact on Indonesia's LNG export value. The value of Indonesian LNG exports is influenced by the exchange rate, world LNG prices, and mining and quarrying GDP in both the short and long term. Downstreaming can continue, enhancing the value of Indonesian LNG exports.

Abstract

Entrepreneurship and labor productivity in Indonesia still face challenges. According to The Asian Productivity Organization (APO) Productivity Databook 2022, labor productivity per capita in Indonesia is lower compared to other ASEAN countries. This study aimed to provide a general overview of minimum wage factors, mobile phone, and labor inspection, as well as determine the influence of these factors on entrepreneurship and labor productivity in Indonesia in 2022. The data used includes the 2022 the Digital Competitiveness Index (EV-DCI) reports from East Ventures, data from the Indonesian Ministry of Manpower, and data from Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS). The research method employed descriptive analysis and inferential analysis. Inferential analysis used multiple linear regression with the Ordinary Least Squares (OSL) method. Every 1% increase in the number of labor supervisors will increase entrepreneurship and productivity by 0.161%. Meanwhile, the minimum wage will decrease entrepreneurship and productivity by 0.831%. Otherwise, the percentage of households with cellular phones will increase entrepreneurship and productivity by 4.556%.

Abstract

After the first demographic dividend, Indonesia hopes to achieve a second demographic dividend through by enhancing productivity. A key strategy involves transforming economic ratio into accumulated pension wealth. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the potential and pathways for Indonesia's second demographic dividend from pension wealth perpective in the form of savings, physical investments, and pension funds. This research uses panel data from 34 provinces over the period 2001-2023, obtained from BPS-Statistics Indonesia, Bank Indonesia, and the Indonesia Financial Services Authority (OJK). The results show that Indonesia has the opportunity to achieve a second demographic dividend through the pension wealth pathway. In the first phase, economic support ratio successfully increased per capita income by around 2 percent per year. This dividend then boosted pension wealth through savings, physical investment, and pension funds per capita by 2,160 percent; 1,036 percent; and 1,330 percent, respectively. The decomposition by age shows that the growth of the working-age population also successfully increased per capita savings and physical investment.

Abstract

National development is a step that leads to an increase in the welfare of society. The success of development is measured through gross domestic product (GDP) which illustrates the level of economic growth. A high GDP increases per capita income. Economic growth must be balanced with the stability of the number of poor people to avoid income inequality. Java is the center of government and economy in Indonesia. Java is the largest contributor to Indonesia's GDP. The large contribution of GDP in Java is accompanied by income inequality in the region. This study aims to identify the existence of spatial effects on income inequality among districts/cities in Java Island and analyze the factors that affect income inequality in Java Island by considering spatial effects. The analysis shows that HDI, construction cost index, minimum wage, and per capita income affect income distribution inequality in Java. There is spatial interaction among 119 districts/cities in Java Island with Spatial Error Model (SEM).

Abstract

Indonesia became the second highest youth unemployment in ASEAN countries. The rate of young educated unemployment in Indonesia continues to fluctuate during the period 2018-2022. The large supply of labor during the demographic dividen period must be utilized optimally in order to bring benefits such as economic growth and reduce unemployment. This study aims to analyze the rate of young educated unemployment in Indonesia from 2018-2022 using panel data regression. The results show that the population dependency ratio, industrial sector GRDP, agricultural sector GRDP and average worker wages affect young educated unemployment. The government is expected to increase the labor-intensive industrial sector and promote modern agriculture to young workers in order to reduce unemployment among young educated people.

Abstract

Food security is a strategic element in the country's development. Potato as a leading horticultural crop is targeted to support food security. North Sumatera Province, as one of the largest potato producing regions in Indonesia, faces low productivity problem, even lower than Indonesia’s and other countries productivity value. High output without an increase in productivity indicates inefficiency problems. This study aims to analyse technical efficiency in North Sumatera Province using Stochastic Frontier Analysis and the data from Cost Structure of Horticulture Cultivation Household Survey 2018. The results show that technical inefficiency exists in potato production and all inputs positively influence output. In addition, farm households that operate with older, less educated farmers, no land ownership, no pest control, no business assistance, and no farmer group membership tend to be technically inefficient. Therefore, the stakeholders must cooperate to evaluate potato farming performance to achieve maximum production and productivity.

Abstract

Consumption of sugarcane by the Indonesian population is very high, thus the availability of sugar needs to be considered. Sugarcane consumption increases every year; however, this is not matched by an increase in production. As a result, the gap between consumption and production is widening, leading to an increase in imports. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the determinants of sugarcane production in Indonesia using the panel data regression method. The data used are secondary data from the six largest sugarcane-producing provinces in Indonesia from 2017-2022, sourced from the Ministry of Agriculture and the Central Statistics Agency. Panel data regression with the fixed effect model method and weighted least square shows that harvested area, the number of farmers, and Gross Fixed Capital Formation (GFCF) have a significant positive effect on sugarcane production, while the number of rainy days has a significant negative effect on sugarcane production. Increasing production is not only achieved by expanding sugarcane acreage but also by improving the quality of farmers, facilitating access to capital sources, and building good irrigation systems

Abstract

Urban livability refers to a city that is fit to live in or the term livable city. The increasing number of urban zoned areas makes livability information important for urban planning and governance. However, livability assessments are often limited by data availability and update cycles, and data collection is expensive. Therefore, this research intends to explore urban liveability by utilizing big data in the form of satellite imagery and POIs, focusing only on information that can be extracted by these two sources. The method of compiling the livability index follows the OECD (2008) rules using factor analysis to determine the weight of indicators and constituent factors. There are 3 main constituent factors, namely the environmental sustainability factor, the public facilities factor and the industrial and commercial zone factor. Finally, the index mapping results show that there is a spatial pattern trend in the livability index in Bandung City.
