Abstract

Hexanoyl-chitosan that exhibited solubility in THF was prepared by acyl modification of chitosan. Films of hexanoyl-chitosan containing LiCF3SO3 were prepared by the solution cast technique. Complexation of the prepared electrolytes was studied by FTIR analysis. For the system containing 30 wt.% LiCF3SO3 salt, the room temperature conductivity achieved was 6.03 x 10-7 S cm-1 and with the addition of 30 wt.% EC to this system, the conductivity was enhanced to 2.75 x 10-5 S cm-1. The variations in conductivity at room temperature are explained by the Rice and Roth model from which the density of mobile ions, mobility of ions and diffusion coefficient were obtained.

Abstract

GaAs films were usually grown by metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) using AsH3 and trimethyl-gallium (TMGa) as precursors. In this study, trisdimethylamino-arsenic (TDMAAs) and TMGa had been successfully used as As and Ga precursor, respectively. For these experiments, the growth temperature was allowed to range from 580 to 600 oC, the total reactor pressure was varied from 50 to 70 torr, and the flows of hydrogen and nitrogen were varied from 200 to 400 sccm. The TDMAAs/TMGa ratio was kept at 4.5. The structural and electrical properties were characterized using SEM method and standard van-der Pauw Hall measurement, respectively. The best growth condition occurred at growth temperature of 580 oC, reactor pressure of 50 torr, H2/N2 ratio of 1,and V/III ratio of 4.5. This film had grain size of 1.08 µm, growth rate of 0.94 µm/h, 395 cm2/Vs mobility, and hole concentration of 3.44 x 1015 cm-3

Abstract

We study time dependent S-brane solutions in gauged and ungauged supergravities in five dimensions. We find that the solutions have a close relationship with black holes and can be obtained by an analytic continuation from static black hole solutions.

Abstract

We address some geometrical aspects of a special class of four dimensional N = 2 supergravity theory obtained from Calabi-Yau compactification of the Type II supergravities with background Ramond-Ramond (RR) fluxes.In particular, several properties of the vector multiplet and hypermultiplet scalar manifolds determined by Calabi-Yau geometry and its deformation are considered. Moreover, aspects of background magnetic and electric fluxes on Calabi-Yau 3-fold which imply that the scalar manifolds have to be gauged with respect to their isometries related to the fluxes. We finally investigate the arising scalar potential and their vacua.

Abstract

One of key issues for the development of the Pb-Bi cooled direct contact boiling water small fast reactor (PBWFR) is thermal-hydraulics. In order to solve the issues of thermal-hydraulics, Pb-Bi-water direct contact boiling two-phase flow loop was designed and constructed, where the loop consisted of a Pb-Bi flow loop, four-heater pin bundle, a chimney, an upper tank with a separator and a dryer, an electromagnetic flow meter, a dump tank, and water supply system, and was operated at the pressure of 7 MPa. Pb-Bi was charged from the dump tank into the Pb-Bi flow loop. Water was circulated by a pump through a preheater, the chimney, the upper tank, a condenser, a buffer tank, and a cooler. A subcooled water was injected into the Pb-Bi in the chimney. Before achieving the next operation phase, commissioning stage was conducted including obtaining of optimal condition of loop, being focused on achievement of the commissioning of the system up to 7 MPa. The experimental results show that steam pressure of 7 MPa was achieved at steam temperature of 286 oC under the saturation condition.

Abstract

We have measured 78 oriented specimens taken form two igneous intrusions in Gunung Nangkajajar at the eastern tip of Java near the town of Banyuwangi for rock magnetic and paleomagnetic investigations. The two intrusions are then referred to as ANBW and DINJ respectively. Upon magnetic measurements, ANBW specimens are found to be magnetically stronger than their DINJ counterparts are. Nevertheless, the specimens in the two sites are suitable for paleomagnetic study as they are magnetically quite isotropic with percent anisotropy well below 10% and magnetic remanence that are stable and consistent upon demagnetization. The consistency of remanence is indicated by the low value of limit or size of cone of confidence, simply referred to as α95 and by the high value of precision parameter k. The results show that paleolatitude of these intrusions was about thirty degree South (30° S), which is far south than their present position. The actual motion of these sites is still being investigated, as no absolute age is known for them. Nevertheless, these paleomagnetic finding is very important as no paleomagnetic data ever existed for the eastern tip of Java.

Abstract

Oxide compounds Bi2MM’O7 (M : Yb, Nd, Sm; M’ : Sb, Nb, Ta) have been synthesized by using solid state reaction. As a tool for predicting their stability, a stability field diagram for pyrochlore has been made. All the prepared oxides have a yellow color, except for M = Nd which is grey. Crystal structure types have been determined using powder X-ray diffraction. Single phase pyrochlore was obtained for Bi2SmSbO7, while for Bi2NdSbO7 a distorted pyrochlore was obtained. Ideal pyrochlores with small amount of Bi1.5Yb0.5O3 were obtained in Bi2YbSbO7. For Bi2MNbO7, (M : Yb, Nd, Sm) series the obtained phases were a mixture of ideal pyrochlore and small impurities of β-Nb2O5. For Bi2MTaO7 (M : Yb, Nd, Sm) series in addition to ideal pyrochlore as major phase, a small amount of MTaO4 (M : Yb, Nd, Sm) rutile phase were obtained. These observations were explained using the constructed structure map and the lattice energy arguments.

Abstract

Ceramics of PbZrxTi1-xO3 (PZT) and 0.5 %, 1 %, 1.5 % tantalum oxide doped PbZr0.525Ti0.475O3 (PTZT) were successfully deposited by solid state reaction. The PZT and PTZT ceramics were analyzed by an x-ray diffraction (XRD). The XRD spectra were recorded by Diano type 2100E diffractometer using a CuKα (λcu = 1.54056 Å) radiation at 30 KV and 30 mA (900 watt). The spectra showed that PZT and PTZT ceramic are polycrystalline with tetragonal structure. The lattice constants analysis of the grown ceramics were described by Delphi program. Using Cohen’s and Cramer’s algorithms in the Delphi program, the lattice constants are a = b = 4.094 Å, c = 4.142 Å, c/a ratio = 1.012 for PZT ceramic, and a = b = 4.075 Å, c = 4.088 Å, c/a ratio = 1.003 for PTZT ceramic. The lattice constants are a = b = 4.094 Å, c = 4.142 Å, c/a ratio = 1.012 for PZT ceramic, a = b = 4.122 Å, c = 4.134 Å, c/a ratio = 1.003 for PTZT 0.5 % ceramic, a = b = 4.075 Å, c = 4.088 Å, c/a ratio = 1.003 for PTZT 1 % ceramic, a = b = 4.248 Å, c = 4.179 Å, c/a ratio = 0.984 for PTZT 1.5 % ceramic. Increasing tantalum oxide doping in PZT from 0 % to 1.5 % lead to the decrease in c/a ratio. The smaller value of the c/a ratio of PTZT ceramic than those of PZT ceramic is possibly associated with the anti site defects of Ta dopants.

Abstract

The glass transition of a two-phase polymer, Diacetylene Containing Polyurethanes (DA-coPUs) containing 50%-by-weight hard-segments made from polyol Voranol EP 2001, isocyanate methylene diphenylene diisocyanate (MDI), and chain extender 2,4-hexadiyne-1,6-diol (HDD) has been analysed using Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Temperature Modulated DSC (MDSC) and Dynamical Mechanic Thermal Analysis (DMTA) measurements. The temperature of the glass transition of the DA-coPUs is mainly influenced by the polyol, showing a Tg of –72°C. The presence of isocyanate and short diol resulted in increasing Tg by about 25 °C. Tg values observed from DMTA measurements were higher than that from DSC and TMDSC measurements by about 10 and 15 °C, respectively. After cross-polymerisation of the DA-coPUs, the temperature of the glass transition was increased by about 8-10°C, showing the effect of polydiacetylene formation in the DA-coPUs.
