Abstract

The objective of the experiment was to observe the effect of several dosages of coarse grass compost to the yield of tomato. The experiment was conducted from December 2007 to May 2008 at Jambi University experimental station, which located in an altitude of 35 m above the sea level. The experimental design was randomized complete block design with 4 replications and 6 treatment level of dosages of coarse grass compost, ie.: a0: 0 ton ha-1 (no compost), a1: 5 ton ha-1, a2: 10 ton ha-1, a3: 15 ton ha-1, a4: 20 ton ha-1 and a5: 25 ton ha-1. The results showed that dosages of coarse grass compost significantly affected fruit set per plant, number of fruit per plant, fruit weight per plant, but no significantly affected age of the first flower initiation and age of the first harvest. The dosages of coarse grass compost on 25 ton ha-1 gave higher fruit set per plant, number of fruit per plant, fruit weight per plant than other treatments.

Abstract

Fusarium oxysporum f.sp capsici is a fungi that causes wilt disease on chili plant. This pathogen is important because can decrease quality and quantity of crops. This research was carried out to know the inhibitation from the extract of Mahkota Dewa’s (Phaleria macrocarpha) fruit due to the gowth of F. oxysporum causal agent of withered disease on chili. In this research, use experimental method with RAL type. Treatment that be used are different volume from mahkota dewa’s fruit extract, i.e. P0 (0 ml); P1 (0.25 ml); P2 (0.5 ml); P3 (0.75 ml) and P4 (1.00 ml). Result shows that the extract of mahkota dewa’s fruit has tendency to inhibit the gowth of colony F. oxysporum through diameter of colony and spore density. The diameter average of colony on P0 is 3.45 cm and P4 is 2.86 cm. Standart measurment in density spore is spore ml-1 water. The highest density spore in P0 is 3.24 x 10; next on P1 is 2.43 x 107; P2 with 2.16 x 107; the average of P3 is 1.72 x 107; and P4 with the lowest density of spore is 1.29 x 107. Mahkota dewa’s fruit extract are more effected to density spore; and has potency as antifungi, because has compound bioactive are alkaloid, saponin and flavonoid.

Abstract

Fungi and bacteria can act as biological control agents and also as decomposers. This study aimed to select Trichoderma spp and bacteria celullotic that have high ability cellulotic on medium CMC and to assess the ability of the microorganism selected in composting Ageratum conyzoides L., Tithonia diversifolia (Hemsley) A. Gray and waste sagoo. The analysis showed that diameter of clear zone bacteria cellulotic larger than Trichoderma spp, using Trichoderma spp and cellulotic bacteria selected able to accelerate the composting process and affect the concentration of carbon, nitrogen content increased, the C/N ratio, pH and nutrient content of compost.

Abstract

This objective of the study is to determine the effect of potassium nutrition on stomatal aperture and drought resistance. Research has been conducted in the greenhouse of the Faculty of Agriculture, Gadjah Mada University in March-May 2012. This experiment was arranged on Factorial Completely Randomized Design (RAKL). The first factor was KCl consist of three level thoose are 0 kg ha-1, 50 kg ha-1, and 100 kg ha-1. The second factor was water consist of four levels which wereenough water and less water. Parameters observed were periodic observations on plant height while the observations made at the first harvest and the end covers root dry weight, shoot dry weight, total dry weight, leaf area, stomatal aperture and proline compound content. The results showed that potassium fertilization affect proline levels in maize, proline accumulation also significantly affected by water deficit conditions. The relationship between stomatal aperture width is closely related to water stress conditions that can increase the accumulation of proline.

Abstract

This objective of the study is to identify the type of insect pestof 10 soybean varieties. The study used descriptive method with field observation technique, whichthen continued by deviation standard measurement. The data were analysed in tabulation, while the insects pest were identified by using insect manual book. The variable of observation were insect pest type, the forms of damaged, the weight of full and empty pod, the number of trunk, fresh weight, dry weight and plant height. The result shows that there are 8 types of main insect pest of soybean such as Ophiomya phaseoli, Lamprosema indicate, Chryzodeixis calcites, Phaedonia inclusa, Spodoptera litura, Nezara viridula, Riptortus linearis and Phiezodorus hybneri. Ophiomya phaseoli is the most insects found in the soybean plants for about 151, following by Riptortus linearis for about 52 and Phiezodorus hybneri for about 32. Among the 10 soybean varieties, Grobogan, Wilis and Kaba were found to be resistant to the pod borer insects pest while varieties resisted to the stem borerinsect pest were Grobodan, Prafi and Kaba. The highest productivity resulted from Cikuray and Anjasmoron which still attacked by the insects.

Abstract

The research aimed to see the usage of liquid biogass waste (LBW) as a fertilizer on the growth of pokcoy (Ipomoea reptans Poir.). In transmigration area, Masni Manokwari. It used experiment method with rondom plot design. There were six treatments, without LBW (A0), 50 cc of LBW (A1), 100 cc of LBW (A2), 150 cc of LBW (A3), 200 cc of LBW (A4), and 250 cc of LBW (A5). The result showed that LBW had significant effect on plant height (6 week after plantation), fresh weight per plant and per plot, dry weight per plant and water content per plant. These indicated that application on of LBW increased yield of pokcoy. The dose 250 cc of LBW was significantly enhanced the growth and yield of pokcoy.

Abstract

The study aimed to identify the presence and the population of insect pest to the cultivation of highest productivity soybean. The study designed in randomized block design with the treatments are 6 varieties of soybean such as Anjasmoro (V1), Burangrang (V2), Grobogan (V3), Rajabasa (V4), Detam-1 (V5) and local variety (V6). The data were statistically analyzed and further tested by Duncan (DMRT). The result showed that Ophiomyia phaseoli, Lamprosema indicata, Nezara virudula, Riptortus lineavis, and Etiella zinckenella were the main insects pest found in the 6 varieties tested. Analysis of variance showed that the majority of pest insect populations did not differ between the varieties tested, except for observations at 4 and 5 weeks after planting. The population of beetles mostly found at 11 weeks after planting. The population of insect pest at Anjasmoro variety relatively low compared to other varieties. All tested varieties can be used to increase the productivity of soybean, especially Anjasmoro variety, but the presence of Lamprosema indicata need to be aware at 4 to 5 weeks after planting especially for Detam-1 and Rajabasa varieties.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the characteristics of the instant drink from wastewater of red fruit oil extraction. Experimental method was used in this study. This study consisted of three phases: (1) Analysis of the chemical composition of red fruit wastewater, (2) Formulation of instant drinks and (3) organoleptic testing. The treatment in this study was the use of fillers ingradients : CMC with a concentration of 0.5, 0.75 and 1% and Dextrin with a concentration of 0.5, 0.75 and 1%. Data were collected for chemical composition of wastewater red fruit, solubility and panelist preferences for color, flavor and aroma of instant drinks product. The results showed that red fruit wastewater contains 5.95% carbohydrates, 7.83% fat; 4.03% protein; 0.63% ash, 14.5 mg/100g Vitamin C; and 32.71 ppm for total carotenoids. Solubility of red fruit wastewater instant drink was ranged between 98-99%, and organoleptic test results showed that the highest obtained in instant drinks with added Dextrin 0.5% as a filler ingredients (score 3.56) while the lowest obtained in instant drinks with CMC 1% as a filler ingredients (score 2.79).

Abstract

This study aims to determine the formulation of wheat flour substitution with pokem flour on bread production, and to know the organoleptic acceptance of the resulting bread. Experimental method with completely rondomized design was used in this research, with 6 treatments of wheat flour substitution with 50%, 40%, 30%, 20%, and 10% flour pokem, as well as 100% wheat as a control. The study was conducted in two stages, that is 1) the bread production, and 2) the organoleptic test. The results showed that higher addition of flour pokem as a substitute for wheat flour in bread production causing decrease the preference panelists for aroma, texture, color and flavor, and the substitution of wheat flour with 10% flour pokem in bread production is recommended because it produces aroma, texture, color and flavor that is not significantly different from 100% wheat flour.

Abstract

Agricultural production in Manokwari in 2007 showed that production duku reached an average production of 58.8 kw / ha (BPS Manokwari, 2008). Duku is one of horticultural products are susceptible to damage during storage. This study aims to assess the use of calcium chloride in an effort to extend the shelf life of fresh duku. The method used in this study is the experimental method with laboratory observation techniques. The study consisted of three treatments, namely: (1) control (duku not soaked), (2) treatment duku immersion in a solution of 3% CaCl2, and (3) treatment duku immersion in a solution of 6% CaCl2. The parameters observed weight of the fruit, the appearance of the fruit, the amount of production of carbon dioxide (CO2), and total dissolved solids. Giving the treatment of calcium chloride (CaCl2) can only inhibit the respiration rate and the rate of weight loss fruit, whereas for the other parameters do not provide satisfactory results. CaCl2 application method by immersion was not suitable to be applied on duku because it will trigger the growth of fungi that become shorter shelf-life than without CaCl2 treatment.
