UNIVERSE : Journal of Science Education Teaching and Learning
UNIVERSE is a peer reviewed and scientific journal published by Universitas Negeri Padang (UNP) in collaboration that publishes twice a year. This journal aim is to publish articles include opinions, insights, analysis and research report from various kind of research, such as experimental, descriptive, research and development (R&D), and action research on Education. UNIVERSE is a journal that publishes only an original articles on the newest issues occuring internationally in science education, science teaching and learning, science curriculum, and science teachers preparation with special purpose to improve our knowledge of science education, teaching, learning and practice. This journal also has a number of specific objectives in several fields: 1. Teaching In teaching activities, it is not only focused on the lecturer, but also on the teacher in the class. The application and development of learning models, the application and development of instructional media, the development and application of textbooks, the development and application of new treatments to students and all teaching activities with the aim of increasing motivation, ability, skills and mindset both by the teacher, and the students. 2. Learning Research in the form of a process, description, treatment or development in the field of learning. Learning activities both nationally and internationally, from a variety of perspectives and mindsets. 3. Practice In practice we invite papers that related to any activities indoors, outdoors. Theoretically, empirically and practically. Experimental and quasi-experimental practice research. Research at school, in the field, to teachers, to students, or to the community. The latest issue, news, and fact. 4. Science Curriculum In the field of curriculum, we invite articles that focus on the application or development of national and international curricula. Methods for applying curriculum or assessments, tools, and media used as support in the implementation or development of the curriculum.

The research background was the unavailability of an included science module based on a contextual approach. This research purposes to make an integrated science module based on a contextual approach to substance pressure material and its application in the life of class VIII SMP/MTs that have criteria in valid and practical. This research type was research and development (R&D). Product developed used model of uses 4-D which is modified into 3-D. The process taken were define, design, and develop. In the process of validation, the module was validated by 3 lecturers as validator, namely material expert validator, linguist, and design expert. The results of the integrated science module development are valid from the validation sheets results that have been assessed by each validator with an overall average of 87.41% with criteria in very valid. In the process of practical, the module was tested by 3 teachers and 26 students of class VIII MTsN 6 Tanah Datar. Practicality results were obtained from practicality sheets (teacher and student response questionnaires) which got 86.90% practicality scores by teachers with very criteria in practical and 82.13% practicality by students with criteria in very practical. The conclusion of this research was to make an included science module based on a contextual approach to substance pressure and its application in the life of class VIII SMP/MTs which was valid and practical to be used in the integrated process of science learning.

This study aims to develop STEM-critical thinking-oriented science experiment videos: a water wheel on the material energy in living systems (VKA) for students, as well as investigate the validity and practicality of the developed video experiments. The type of research used is the development of the Plomp model which consists of three stages, namely preliminary research, prototyping stage, and assessment phase. However, due to time constraints, this research was limited to the prototyping stage. This research was conducted at SMP Negeri 1 Sintuk Toboh Gadang. In this study, researchers used instruments in the form of validity and practicality questionnaires. The results of the validity test and practicality test were analyzed using the Moment Kappa formula. The validity test was carried out by involving three science education lecturers at FMIPA UNP and the practicality test was carried out on 9 class VII4 students at SMP Negeri 1 Sintuk Toboh Gadang. The results of this study resulted in a VKA which obtained a validity test of 0.78 with high validity. While the practicality test on the one-to-one test was 0.86 with a very high practicality category, the small group test on students was 0.87 with a very high practicality category. It can be concluded that VKA has a high level of validity and a very high level of practicality.

The aim of this paper is to perceive the implentation of writing to learn strategy on science learning. This study uses quantitative descriptive research. Observations were carried out to see directly how the activities of the teacher convey the subject matter. In the preliminary stage, the percentage of implementation was 83%, the core activity stage was 95%, and the closing was 92%. The core activities in this study were carried out in sequential activity steps namely; observing, questioning, gathering information, associating, and communicating results. At the observing stage, the percentage of implementation was 88%, asking questions was 100%. Collecting information is 96%, associating is 100%, and communicating is 92%. Learning with the strategy of writing to learn has been implemented very well. In general, the teacher has succeeded very well in carrying out science learning activities using the writing to learn strategy.
