Abstract

Conventional treatments for cancer are expensively and have serious side effect. Non-conventional natural treatments have gained acceptance because of minimal or no side effect, easy to find, but little scientific evidence exists. One of the anticancer candidates is melittin. Melittin is a venom protein isolated from bee venom. Presented here is the first reported effect of melittin on cell growth, cell cycle profile and apoptosis necrosis in HeLa cell line. The results show the melittin induce necrotic cell in dose dependent manner, but the IC25 shows the highest effect on apoptotic cell. All doses, IC10, IC25 and IC50 can inhibit G0/G1 on mitotic cell. Finally, the results may indicate the melittin potent to develop as anticancer drug. Keywords: Melittin, Cell growth, Cycle cell, Death.

Abstract

Background: The American Diabetes Association (ADM) certified that the Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) was separated any grade of the intolerance of glucose with a nonset or fist recognition at the time of pregnancy. Objectives: The study aims at assessing the knowledge of pregnant women of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM), which includes screening importance, risk factors and post- partum follow-up. Methodology: A sample of 50 women was selected from primary health care centers in Nasiriyah. The data was collected by interviewing women. The questionnaire was designed and consisted of demographic components and variables and risk factors that contribute to gestational diabetes to pregnant women. The validity and reliability of the questionnaire was determined by conducting a pilot study. Statistical and statistical procedures were used to analyze the data. Results: The study results showed that most of them ranging from age (21-25) years and the highest proportion of them graduated from primary school and less, most of them housewives with enough to some extent. There were statistically important variances between the knowledge of pregnant women about gestational diabetes and demographic data at a value of p less than 0.05. Recommendations:  Visit prenatal clinics until late pregnancy, meaning that there is little chance to educate illness on GDM and how they can help prevent it. While doctors are proactively trying to change this, the results of this study suggest that continuing education is necessary to improve awareness of GDM, and early prenatal education is likely to be important and that the Department of Health is setting up workshops on pregnancy. Abstract

Introduction: Cerebral palsy (CP) is primarily a disorder of movement and posture due to neurological damage before, during, or within five years of birth that prevents the brain from developing properly. Supportive treatments, medications, and surgery may conduct, but no optimal results have been obtained. The main goal of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of the intraventricular implantation of adipose derived neural progenitor stem cells in post-cerebral palsy patients. Methods: 14 patients were included in this study. Small adipose tissue was isolated by small lipopectomy under local anesthesia, cultured and derived become neural progenitor cells. Intraventricular implantations were performed in the operating room. Patients were evaluated based on the Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS) according to their motor skills before and after treatment in 12 months. The assessment includes cognitive functions, motoric functions and spasticity changes. Descriptive statistics are provided. Results and Discussion: Ten of twelve CP patients (83.33%) had a significant improvement after treatment. The improvement ranged from 1 to 3 levels on the GMFCS score, and improvement was most pronounced in motor skills and cognitive skills. There were no serious adverse events reported, limited to mild headaches, fever or vomiting, and all side effects resolved within few days. Conclusion: Because of the small sample size and non-randomized trial performed, we could not reach a definitive conclusion regarding the potential of intraventricular implantation. However, this small study shows that repeated intraventricular implantation of autologous adipose stem cells is advantageous. Keywords: Cerebral palsy, GMFCS, stem cell, Adipose tissue, Neural progenitor cells, Intraventricular implantation.

Abstract

To evaluate the incidence of chromosomal abnormalities in Iraqi couples who experience recurrent abortion and identify additional factors that may be predictive of abortion, such as parental age and unfavorable obstetric or abnormal semen analysis. The present study examined 70 couples with at least two pregnancy losses were referred to the Iraqi Center for Cancer and Medical Genetics Research. All subjects provided a detailed personal medical history and ancestral history and underwent a physical examination. Among the 70 couples tested, Chromosomal abnormalities were detected in 16 (11.42%) of 70 couples, seven males (4.99%) and nine females (6.42%). Fifteen of chromosomal abnormalities were structural and one of them was numerical. These abnormalities included four balanced reciprocal translocations, one Robertsonian translocation, one case of trisomy X-chromosome and the other cases have a different chromosomal aberration inversion, deletion and derivative. Our results showed that 11.42% of couples with recurrent abortion had chromosomal abnormalities, with no other abnormalities. Couples who experience ≥2 pregnancy losses of unknown origin should undergo a cytogenetic analysis, and findings showing a chromosomal abnormality in either parent must be followed by genetic counseling. Keywords: Recurrent abortion, Chromosomal abnormality, Balanced carrier.

Abstract

Ibuprofen suffers from general side effects of NSAIDs, owing to the presence of free carboxylic group. The study was aimed to retard the adverse effects of gastrointestinal origin. New series of imidazol-4-one derivatives of ibuprofen were synthesized 6a-e. The structures of synthesized compounds have been established on the basis of their spectral FT-IR and 1HNMR data. In vivo acute anti-inflammatory effects of the synthesized compounds were evaluated in rats using egg-white induced edema model of inflammation. The tested compounds and the reference drug produced significant reduction of paw edema with respect to the effect of propylene glycol 50% v/v (control group). ). The effect of Ibuprofen and all tested com pounds started at time (120 min.) except (6c) and (6e) started at (60 min.) which indicate fast onset of action. The effect of tested compounds and Ibuprofen continued until the end of experiment. Compounds (6a), (6b) and (6d) produced significantly lower inhibitory effect than Ibuprofen at time (120-240 min.).Although, compound (6c) exhibit significantly higher inhibitory effect than ibuprofen at time (60-240 min.),but compounds (6a, 6b & 6c) show lower effect at time (120-240 min). Keywords: Anti-inflammatory activity, Imidazol-4-one, Rat paw edema, Ibuprofen analogues.

Abstract

In this study the effect of the laser dye DQOCI concentration doped films on the nonlinear properties was studded by using z-scan technique which showed an interesting nonlinear optical characteristic. The dye DQOCI was dissolved in ethanol with different concentration and doped with the polymer PMMA by a spin coating method. Z-scan experiment was performed using Nd: YAG pulsed laser at532 nm, in two parts. The first part was done using a closed-aperture placed in front of the detector to measure the nonlinear refractive index. In the second part; the aperture in front the detector was removed (open aperture) to measure the nonlinear absorption coefficient. The experimental results for closed aperture show that the dye doped films exhibits negative refractive index (self-defocusing) for all concentrations. The results show also that the nonlinear refractive index and the third order nonlinear susceptibility increased with the increasing concentration. The observed nonlinearity curves of the doped films by using open aperture z-scan exhibited third order nonlinearity as it fit to saturation absorption. Most of the molecules occupy the excited state, and the ground state is bleached, the system becomes increasingly transparent to the incident laser puls at 532 nm resulting in a saturation of absorption .The third order absorption coefficientβ and the imaginary part of susceptibility I’m χ(3). Values were increased as the concentration of the dye was increased .This is due to increasing of the number of dye molecules which thermally excited resulting in an enhanced effect. DQOCI doped films with different concentrations have a good optical limiting response. The limiting threshold and the limiting output power were reduced as the concentration was increased which make these films a good candidate for optical limiting applications.

Abstract

Background: Placenta adhesiva is an obstetrics complication with potentially high maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality. Its incidence is increasing, but the management remains controversial. Antenatal diagnosis and method of delivery are the main issues. Many clinicians now prefer a conservative approach. While cesarean hysterectomy remains the method of choice in most cases, it still exposes women to torrential bleeding risk, with reported mean blood loss of 3.000-10.000 ml. We present four cases of placenta adhesiva with suspected urinary bladder involvement during antenatal care, which is managed with cesarean hysterectomy. Case Presentation: A 34 years old multigravida (G3P2A0) at 32-33 weeks gestational age (GA) and a-39 year’s old multigravida (G4P3A0) came to the clinic complaining of painless vaginal bleeding. In another case, a 38 years old multigravida was also referred from a regional hospital diagnosed with G5P2A3 32-33 weeks GA + antepartum bleeding (total placenta praevia) suspected placenta adhesiva. And the last case was A 24 years old multigravida, with known low-lying placenta for 20 weeks of GA. Greyscale Ultrasonography (US) showed placental implantation at anterior uterine corpus covering entire internal uterine ostium (IUO), seen multiple lacunas crossing the vesicouterine serous border and placental protrusion into the urinary bladder. The cesarean hysterectomy was performed in all cases by placental identification, preoperative bleeding control, and careful tissue resection, as proposed in the triple-P procedure. The cases show a promising outcome following CS hysterectomy in cases of placenta adhesiva involving urinary bladder. Conclusion: We recommend a comprehensive team approach for decision making and management of patients suspected of placenta adhesiva with careful preparation to avoid complications. Keywords: Placenta Adhesiva, Caesarean Hysterectomy, Urinary Bladder.
