Abstract

Lansium domesticum Corr. (Meliaceae) is the popular tropical plant producing economic edible fruits found mainly in Southeast Asia. Seed, leaf, bark, stalks and fruit skin extracts of this plant are potential sources for compounds with broad spectrum of pharmacological activities such as antitumor, anticancer, antimalaria, antimelanogenesis, antibacteria and it may lead to the discovery of a new compouds used for antimutagenic and antioxidative stress. Bioactive compounds, pharmacological activities and prospect this plant in medical application will be discussed in this paper. Key words: Lansium domesticum, bioactive compounds, pharmacological activities, medical application.

Abstract

Study on the water quality of Sentani Lake has been carried out during October–November 2012 at 3 stations of observation. Observation and retrieval of macrobenthos have been done by using combination between line transect method and square plot. While for physical and chemical  characteristics of water is measured in site and at laboratory. Index of variance Shannon-Wiener, Evenness and Density as well as Pollution Index were used to analyse the physical and chemical  characteristics of water. Result of this study showed that Telaga Maya  area (station 3) has  the highest variation of macrobenthos with H’ value= 2.12 while the lowest variation (H’= 1.66) was found around Ekspo River (station 2). Based on population density of macrobenthos, Pilsbryoconcha exilis which collected in the area of Jembatan Dua River (station 1) was found as  the highest population with density 9.26 ind/m2, while the lowest population density was Melanoides tuberculata with density 0.93 ind/m2. It can be concluded that based on the value of variance index and Pollution Index, the water quality of Sentani Lake belong to low-medium polluted category.Key words: water quality, macrobenthos, sentani lake and Jayapura.

Abstract

Study of ecology of mangrove organisms at Yotefa Bay Jayapura has been done from February to December 2012. The main purpose of this study is to collect the ecological data mangrove organism focus on diversity, distribution, richness, and similarity. The study was on organisms which have economical values for people living at the Papua Trade Centre area (PTC), Skyland, and Nafri. The data were collected with the line transects and quadrate methods, and data was examined with description on quantitative and qualitative methods. The result showed that there were 7 species of mangrove organism which have economical values; which were Anadara granosa, Anadara pilula, Isognomon ephippium, Gelonia erosa, Gelonia expansa, Pinna nobilis, and Faunus ater. The diversity index revealed that the highest number of species diversity was in PTC and Nafri area which were 1,70  and the lowest species diversity was in Skyland area which was 1, 55. The highest species evenness (E) was occurred in skyland and Nafri,  which was 0,80 and the lowest was in PTC which was  about 0,32. The highest abundance of species occurred in Skyland area was G. expansa scoring 4,9 ind/m2 and the lowest  abundance in Nafri was P. nobilis scoring 1 ind/m2. The similarity index for the PTC Area, Skyland, and Nafri was on spesies of G. erosa, G. expansa, A. granosa, I. ephipium, and  F. ater.  Key words: Mollusca, mangrove, Youtefa bay, and Jayapura.

Abstract

Conservation effort and knowledge on coral reef ecosystem are necessary to protect marine ecosystem. Coral reef ecosystem is very important to support marine biota especially fishes and benthos. The presence of coral reef indirectly support local people income, therefore is is necessary to conserve coral reef ecosystem. District of South Waigeo is one of tourist area as well as preserve area in Raja Ampat Regency of Papua Barat Province. The aim of this study is to identify the current condition of coral reef in Saporken Village of South waigeo District. Data were collected by survey method using coral reefs Point intercept transect method, observation and interviews to determine the social, economic and cultural impact., and measures taken to manage coral reef management in village Saporkren Marine Protected Areas. The results showed that knowledge Saporkren Village community, the conservation community knows about how destructive such arrests are not carried out the bombing, while the traditional way people work is local wisdom. Condition of coral cover in the village of Marine Protected Areas Saporkren in good condition (live coral cover=51%) and very good water quality, flow velocity at high tide ranged from 4.25 to 22.3 cm/sec and the flow velocity at low tide over small ranging from 5.07 to 19.60 cm/sec, salinity ranged from 32–35‰ and wave height ranged from 0.75 m. Based on the results of this study concluded that: Village community know Saporkren conservation activities of local government programs, and the traditional way to preserve coral reef still implemented.Key words: Conservation, coral reefs, Saporkren village, Raja Ampat.

Abstract

Felle Snails (Angulyagra tricostata) is an alternative source of animal protein for the people around Sentani Lake. Meat of Felle snails has an indication of being contaminated by pathogenic enteric bacteria harmful to the health of the public consumption. The purpose of this study was to determine the diversity of bacterial enteric pathogens in Felle snails (A. tricostata) from the coast of Sentani Lake, Jayapura. Felle snails were taken from various points near existing residential areas around the coastal region of Sentani Lake. Extraction of meats Snail dilutions was made prior to planting in stages up to 10-10. Each serial dilution of 0.1 mL were taken and inoculated into Lactose Broth medium (LB), Mac Conkey Media (MC) agar and media EMBA at 370C for 24 hours. Colonies that grew were sub-cultured to get different colonies and grown on agar slant. Identification of individual characters was performed by colony fenetik numerical methods. The result indicated that there were seven selected isolates and the dendrogram showed that those species were similar to four of genus Enterobacteriaceae. Seven isolates consisted of 2 isolates similar to the genus Escherchiae, 2 isolates similar to Klebsiellae, 2 isolates similar to the genus Salmonellae and 1 isolate similar to the genus Shigellae. Similarity index value of each  selected isolates ranged from 69 to 86%.Key words: Felle snail, bacterial enteric pathogens, Enterobacteriaceae, and sentani lake.
