Abstract

The aims of this research were to know the water environmental quality and to determine the diversity and abundance of plankton in Youtefa and Yos Sudarso Bay. The Sampling was conducted from October 2012 to January 2013 at two observation stations of Youtefa Bay and four observation stations of Yos Sudarso Bay during the dry and rainy seasons. The Sampling of plankton in each observation stations were made horizontally using a plankton net size number of 25. Biological data are determined using diversity index, uniformity index, dominance index and abundance calculations. Physico-chemical parameters were analyzed descriptively by comparing the result data of research with waters quality standards for marine’s biota based on decree of Environment Minister No. 51 year 2004. The results of water quality showed that in general, the quality of aquatic environment in Youtefa and Yos Sudarso Bay did not comply with water quality standards for marine’s biota issued by The Minister of Environment of Republic of Indonesia. While based on the diversity index analysis, water quality in Youtefa and Yos Sudarso Bay was categorized as a half polluted-heavily polluted. Diversity of plankton in Youtefa and Yos Sudarso Bay during the dry and rainy seasons was categorized as low-medium. Abundance of plankton in Youtefa and Yos Sudarso Bay was in low category. Key words: Abundance, diversity, plankton, Youtefa Bay, Yos Sudarso Bay.

Abstract

Abstract

Musa balbisiana Colla in Kuantan Singingi Regency can survive from the disease that cause banana in many other areas loss their diversity. Currently, there is no information about the diversity of M. balbisiana from Kuantan Singingi. The purposes of this study were to record, characterize, and measure the diversity of M. balbisiana from Kuantan Singingi based on the morphological characters. M. balbisiana Colla samples were collected from three locations in kuantan singingi, i.e. Pangean, Cerenti, and Inuman. A total of 88 morphological characters of M. balbisiana were analyzed. The UPGMA analysis was conducted to find out the diversity of M. balbisiana. The result showed that there were six M. balbisiana cultivars, namely Aceh, Bungo, Kara, Jambi, Nipah, and Beluluk which were found in this study. The similarity coefficient values of these six banana cultivars was ranged from 63-89 %. Cluster analysis based on 88 morphological characters of M. balbisiana produced dendogram with 2 primary groups at percentage of similarity values of 66 %.  Kara cultivar contained the highest carbohydrates, vitamin C, fiber and sodium content, while aceh cultivar had the highest potassium content. Key words: diversity, Kuantan Singingi, morphology, M. balbisiana, nutrient content

Abstract

Sea cucumbers are organisms which have very important role in aquatic ecosystems as benthic biotas. The purpose of this study is to understand the public's knowledge about the diversity of sea cucumbers and its utilization in Tablasupa village. This study was conducted in May 2016, using a survey method by means of sampling and interviews. The results showed that based on the knowledge of local people, there are six species of sea cucumber. On the other hand, based on morphological identification, there were found eight species, which are Genus Actinopyga (2 types), Bohadschia (2 types), and Holothuria (6 types). Many people take advantage of the type of sea cucumbers for sale, and only a small portion is consumed. As a consequence of community activities is that increase the potential of reducing the species biodiversity of sea cucumber in the region. However, the existence of local knowledge management in this region is expected to reduce the loss of diversity and may improve the local environment ecosystem.Key words: benthic, ecosystems, Jayapura, Tablasupa, sea cucumbers

Abstract

Cancer is the second cause of death in the world after heart disease. Cancer therapy using natural product was considered has no side effect. Secondary metabolites from ketapang (Terminalia cattapa L) leaves has a prospect for cancer therapy. The objective of this research was to determine the cytotoxical effect of ketapang leaves on T47D breast cancer cells. Ketapang leaves were macerated using chloroform, ethyl acetate and methanol. Cytotoxicity effect were determined using MTT Cell Viability Assay. The result showed that chloroform, ethyl acetate and methanol extract were not able to reduce cell viability of T47D cells. Key words: cancer, ketapang, T. cattapa, cytotoxic, T47D cells.

Abstract

Evaluation of drug use is a quality assurance process that is carried out continuously, organizational structured and recognized to ensure that the drug is used appropriately and effectively. Until recently, Jayapura city is still as a malarial endemic area. In 2012, the number of malaria cases are malarial tertiana 8.535 (39%) cases, malarial tropical 12.256 (57%), malarial mix (tertiana+tropical) 612 (2,84%) and malarial quartana 73 (0,33%). The highest percentage of malarial cases in the Jayapura city is caused by Plasmodium falciparum. The aims of this study are to evaluate the drug use and the dose accuracy of antimalarial drugs in the General Hospital of Abepura from July to December 2014. This is a descriptive study conducted by a retrospective review of medical records of patients. The results of the study concluded that the highest incidence rates occurred in the male (59.04%) and lowest in women (40.96%), 15-25 years of age (57.8%), 26-35 years of age (27.7%) and  36-45 years of age (14.5%). The dose accuracy for antimalarial drugs (100%) indicated that antimalarial drugs used are Primaquine, Artesunate injection and Dihydroartemisin + piperaquine (DHP) or Darplex. Key words: Abepura hospital, antimalarial drug, Jayapura, malaria
