Abstract

Bukit Tiga Puluh National park (TNBT) of Riau Province is a nature conservation area with a high diversity of fauna, one of which is the butterfly. Butterfly species diversity is influenced by the vegetation in their habitat. The TNBT utilization zone has a habitat type with varied vegetation. There is no information about the species of butterflies in the area. This study aimed to identify morphological character of butterflies and vegetation based on morphological characters. The method used was exploration. The catching area of the butterfly was the Granite waterfall and the Bukit Lancang path of TNBT utilization zone. Samples made as insectarium and herbarium. The  identification of butterfly characters consisted of the head, thorax, abdomen, legs and wings. There were a number of different types of butterflies and plants between the Granite waterfall area (22 and 28 species) and the Bukit Lancang paths (5 and 9 species). The type of butterfly was dominated by the family Nymphalidae. This is due to the amount of vegetation and environmental conditions that are more favorable in the granite waterfall area. The key determinants of butterfly species are the characters of the wing. The results of this study can contribute to maintaining the TNBT butterflies in Riau Province and also as database information of butterflies species in Indonesia.

Abstract

Fitmawati. 2006. Taxonomic Status of Mangifera laurina and its Related Species. Floribunda 3(2): 29-37.-This study is aimed to investigate the taxonomic status of species related to M. laurina, to find out whether they represent a natural species or should be placed in several different species. The result showed that morphological phylogenetic analysis supported the idea for separating three monophyletic species (M. laurina, M. aplanata, M. lalijiwa), considering that M. rubropetala and M. indica are synonym, and defining two independent lineages of sister group (i.e. the clade of M. lalijiwa and the clade consist of M. indica, M. laurina, M. aplanata  and M. rubropetala). Morphologically, M. lalijiwa is characterized by having glomerulate and glabrous inflorescence and tips of petal ridge free of the surface. In contrast, the other species usually posseses non-glomerulate and puberulous inflorescence and base or a half of base of petal ridge at free of the surface. Phylogenetic analysis of E-RAPD was incongruent with that of morphological analysis. However, the molecular phylogeny support whether that M. aplanata is separated from other species and that cultivars of M. lalijiwa are a monophyletic group.

Abstract

Fitmawati & Alex Hartana. 2010. Using RAPD and Enhanced-RAPD Markers to Distinguish Between Mangifera aplanata Kosterm. and Its Related Species. Floribunda 4(1): 1–4.— RAPD and E-RAPD analysis of M. aplanata were observed in reactions with 27 primers. Four out of these 27 primers produced 10 specific bands patterns. The result can distinguish M. aplanata from its closely related species. Fourtysix polymorphic fragments were amplified, which represents 89.1 percent of the total band number. The length of these fragment ranged from about 200 to 1500 bp.

Abstract

Ten distinct species of Mangifera were determined in central of Sumatera. This study aimed to characterize and to determine species of Mangifera based on the morphological character. The study had been conducted from December 2012 to March 2013 on 4 study sites in Riau Province by using a survey method and a direct observation. Fifty morphological characters were scored and analyzed using PAUP 4.0. The cladogram formed two main clades, clade I only consisted of M. kemanga and clade II consisted of M. foetida, M. odorata, M. indica, M. laurina, M. sumatrana, M. zeylenica, M. quadrifida, M. torquendra and Mangifera sp. The clustering results in two cladograms were mainly based on the the similarity of morphological characters dan based on the line of evolution.

Abstract

Ridan (Nephelium maingayi) is one of Nephelium (Sapindaceae) member distributed in Riau Province. This underutilized edible plant is commonly found as wild species, and poses three different fruit morphologies (oval, asymmetric and rounded shaped fruit). The phytochemical contents of these fruit species had not been reported. This study aimed to identify the phytochemical contents of fruit parts (peel, aril and seed) of three different fruit shapes of N. maingayi (oval, asymmetric and rounded shaped fruit) from Riau Province. A total of six secondary metabolite groups were tested (alkaloid, terpenoid, steroid, flavonoid, saponin dan tannin), using qualitative analysis based on the presence of precipitation (alkaloid), the change of mixture color (steroid, terpenoid, flavonoid and tannin) and soapy foaming substance for saponin. The result showed that peels of Ridan (N. maingayi) gave the highest phytochemical contents (alkaloid, terpenoid, flavonoid, saponin and tannin.). Terpenoid and saponin were found in peel, aril and seed of three different fruit shapes. This study concluded that the phytochemical contents of three fruit shapes of Ridan (N. maingayi) varies among the different shapes of fruit. This result of this study provide the first information of bioactive profile of N. maingayi form Riau Province.
