Abstract

Electrical energy is energy that is very important in human life both for industrial, school and household needs. The source of electrical energy comes from fuels such as oil and gas. Given the depletion of natural resources in the form of oil and natural gas, it is possible that electrical energy will become very expensive. To minimize the use of electrical energy, a control is made to save electricity aimed at household electricity use, because the use of electrical energy in households is generally very large. In order to make it easier to save electrical energy in households, a web-based control is created that uses the web as a transmission medium. This web-based control application utilizes the parallel/db25 port, the port used is the data port from D0-D7. This application can be accessed via mobile phones and computers. This web-based control is equipped with a web server service that is related to electrical equipment in the household.

Abstract

Crude palm oil fractionation produces one product that is stearin. In general the industry utilizing stearin as a raw material for making margarine. If the saponification process is carried out at stearin it will produce two products at once, namely soaps and glycerol. This research aims to determine the best reaction temperature to produce soap and glycerol by saponification stearin. Saponification using ethanol with KOH 3N reacting with palm stearin obtained as a byproduct of oil production in the mini plant Polytechnic Kampar. The reaction was performed with the reaction temperature variation of 60, 65, 70, 75 and 80 °C with stirring 400 rpm for 60 minutes. Results saponification separated to get the soap and glycerol are then analyzed to determine whether soap and glycerol produced is appropriate or not the relevant SNI. In all the saponification reaction temperature variations do, produce soap with characteristics in accordance with SNI 06-3532-1994.

Abstract

Surfactants are surface active ingredients that function to reduce the surface tension of a liquid. In general, surfactants are synthesized from petroleum and natural gas derivatives, but they can cause environmental pollution and are not renewable, so an alternative raw material is needed, namely palm oil. One type of surfactant that can be produced from palm oil is methyl ester sulfonate (MES). This study aims to obtain the optimum process conditions and the characteristics of the MES surfactant produced from palm oil methyl ester with the sulfonating agent Na2S2O5. The preparation of methyl esters was carried out in two stages of esterification and transesterification reactions using methanol as a source of alcohol with H2SO4 as an acid catalyst and NaOH as a base catalyst. Sulfonation was carried out at temperatures of 80, 90 and 100 0C, the ratio of methyl ester to Na2S2O5 was 1:0.5; 1:0.75; 1:1 and 5 hours reaction time.

Abstract

Sources of raw materials that can be made into activated charcoal come from animals, plants, waste or minerals that contain carbon. In 2012 rice production was estimated at 68.59 million tons of GKG, an increase of 2.84 million tons (4.31 percent) compared to 2011. Based on the above conditions and the potential of rice husk as a raw material for activated charcoal, it is necessary to process rice husk so that it can be used as activated charcoal. The purpose of this study was to determine the processing of rice husk into activated charcoal and the characteristics of the activated charcoal produced and to determine the potential of charcoal as an adsorbent and nutrient provider. The method used in this study refers to SNI 06-3730-1995. The fixed variable was the activation process of rice husk with 0.5M NaOH at a temperature of 800C for 2 hours, while the changing variable was the temperature of 4000C and 5000C with carbonization times of 30,45,60,75,90,105 and 120 minutes

Abstract

Oil palm harvesting is the process of cutting the palm fruit bunches from the tree to transporting them to the mill which includes the activities of cutting the ripe fruit bunches, picking loose fruit, cutting the fronds, transporting the produce to TPH, and transporting the produce to the mill (PKS). Most of the oil palm farmers use conventional equipment in harvesting oil palm fruit such as dodos or egrek. The process of harvesting oil palm using dodos or egrek will consume a lot of energy because the process is quite difficult and the tools are quite heavy and the equipment is still conventional. This mechanical oil harvesting tool is designed and made to help and facilitate oil palm farmers in carrying out oil palm harvesting.

Abstract

Welding is a process of joining two or more metals which is widely applied in the industrial world. To get good welding results, it is necessary to choose the right amount of current. In this study, variations in the amount of current used were 60 A, 70 A and 80 A for welding S45C carbon steel plates, using the SMAW welding method. The results of the welding were then tested for hardness using the Rockwell HRB scale method in the weld metal, HAZ, and base metal areas. From the results of this study, the hardness value in the weld metal area was higher than the hardness value in the HAZ and base metal areas. And a good current used in welding S45C carbon steel plates is a welding current of 80 A.

Abstract

Politeknik Kampar as an educational institution based palm oil industry has a mini plant processing crude palm oil plant with a capacity of 700 kg / batch which produces olein and stearin. Stearin until now still not processed and utilized in order to bring economic value. The research purposes were to examine the use of stearin to produce soap and glycerol, knowing the best concentration of KOH solution on the process of saponification of palm oil stearin and produces soap and glycerol in consistent with ISO related. The preliminary research was conducted to determine whether stearin can be saponified in order to produces soap and glycerol.

Abstract

Polytechnic Kampar has a cooking oil plant, where students can learn the real experience of cooking oil processing. Currently, no treatment for the spent bleaching earth as waste that generated in the cooking oil processing. Spent Bleaching Earth resulting from the process of bleaching in the processing still contains substances such as oil and carotene. Extraction of carotenoids substance from spent bleaching earth is one of the alternative recovery carotene from waste.In general, the objectives of this research was to utilize the waste from bleaching process by extracting carotenoids from spent bleaching earth and analyse the extract of carotene. Thus, the utilization of spent bleaching earth can be completed and provide added value to the cooking oil plant.This study was conducted using two (2) types of solvents, namely hexane and acetone to separate carotenes from spent bleaching earth, that obtain optimum conditions for both the solvent and the ratio between the sample and the time of extraction process. The extract of carotene was analyzed using a UV –Vis spectrophotometer .

Abstract

The potential for waste of oil palm wood from company plantations and community gardens after passing its productive age is very large, as well as the waste resulting from processing oil palm in the form of empty fruit bunches. The need for natural wood should be reduced by using wood substitute materials, one of which is wood plastic composite, which uses plastic as a matrix and wood as reinforcement. In order to obtain a hybrid composite with reinforces in the form of palm sawdust and empty bunch fiber as well as a polypropylene matrix with mechanical and physical properties that meet the standard criteria, composite manufacture and characterization were carried out.
