Aqwal invites students, scholars and researchers to contribute the result of their studies and researches. This Journal is aims to Quranic and Hadith studies which covers original research and literatur review with various focus of linguistic (semantic, semiotic, stilistic qiroaat, nadhom), philosophy (hermeneutic), local wisdom studies, environment, gender, and others. This journal, serving as a forum for the study of Quranic and Hadith in Asian and other parts of the world within its local and challenging global context, supports focused Hadith studies of particular theme and multidisciplinary studies. Al-Aqwal has become a medium of exchange of ideas and research findings from various traditions.

Reinterpretation of “Fitna” in QS. Al-Baqarah Verse 191 (Ma'na Cum Maghza Approach) Hakam Al-Maâ€™mun; Haris Fatwa Dinal Maula

The meaning of the word â€œfitnaâ€ in Indonesian is often incorrect when it is associated with the word of Allah written in QS. al-Baqarah: 191. The snippet of the verse is al-fitna asyaddu min al-qatl, which if translated reads more or less "slander is more cruel than murder". Misunderstanding can occur when the translation of a verse occurs partially and independently from the context of the verse in which it was derived. Apart from the partial translation problem, another factor is the distortion of the meaning of the word slander (fitna) in Indonesian and Arabic. Through the ma'na cum maghzÄ approach, the misunderstanding of the word fitna is then traced so that some basic meanings are known, namely al-ibtilÄ, al-ikhtibÄr, al-imtihÄn and al-ihrÄq. The word slander in the context of QS. al-Baqarah: 191 is closer to the meaning of al-syirk (shirk) than to the meaning of fitna (slander) as understood in the Indonesian language, which is to convey false information to others. The reading of the verse through the ma'na cum maghzÄ approach then raises several main messages from this verse, namely the message of monotheism, maqÄá¹£id al-syarÄ«'ah and social ethics. These values synergize with each other to support preventive action against the fitna referred to by the verse.

The process of interpreting the Qur'an is not only limited to the practice of understanding a text by a mufasir. More than that, a mufasir engages in a dialogue with existing traditions, culture and socio-politics. Likewise, studying interpretation in Indonesia, especially Java, also concerns the socio-political conditions of the writer, the audience space when the interpretation is written, the language used and the purpose of writing the interpretation are some important studies to be explored. In Java, there are quite a number of interpreters with the characters of their respective interpretations, one of which is the Tafsir Qoeran Djawen book. In this interpretation, it accommodates various local aspects such as script, narrative and communication in the practice of interpretation. Departing from this, the author raises the title ""Locality of the Book Tafsir Qoeran Djawen"". This study focuses on the locality contained in the Tafsir Qoeran Djawen. The results of this study, namely, the form of locality in this interpretation can be seen in its appearance and communication as described above. Namely the interpretation using the cacarakan script and krama inggil. Meanwhile, the locality aspect, in its interpretation, the author of the book Tafsir Qoeran Djawen interprets the verses of the Al-Qur'an by including local elements that exist in Javanese society, such as traditions and culture in society, events that intersect with society and others. Some examples of aspects of locality in the interpretation presented in the Tafsir Qoeran Djawen book, for example discussing the pilgrimage tradition, mentioning Javanese philosophy, criticizing the tahlilan tradition and others.

This article tries to describe the M. Abdullah DarrÄzâ€™s toughts on iâ€™jÄz al-Qur`Än as basic of reading-cum-understanding on the Qur`Än. Initially, the discussion of iâ€™jÄz al-Qur`Än started from debate among the scholars about theological doctrines on the Qur`Än such as al-muâ€™Äraá¸ah, at-taá¸¥addÄ«, tark al-muâ€™Äraá¸ah, and al-â€™ajz. But, DarrÄz was able to discussed the discourse of iâ€™jÄz into domain of Qur`anic interpretation, and also Qur`anic reception in his work: an-NabÄ` al-â€™Aáº“Ä«m: Naáº“arÄt JadÄ«dah fÄ« al-Qur`Än. Through his work, DarrÄz was able to formulated the principles of reading-cum-understanding on the Qur`Än are sourced from its iâ€™jÄzâ€”which I term it with qirÄ`ah iâ€™jÄziyyah â€™an al-Qur`Änâ€”such as principle of coherence, intertextuality and stylistics of the Qur`Än.

Some communities in civilization, especially Muslims, the Qur'an is considered a complete and perfect holy book. The Qur'an is a 'text' that transcends and transcends other 'texts' in history. The concept of text in Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd's study project on the Qur'an is quite significant in bringing him to unravel some aspects that have not been touched by other Qur'anic reviewers. For Nasr, studying the Qur'an as a text will lead to a scientific or objective interpretation. One of the hypotheses that says that the Qur'an is a cultural product (muntij al-tsaqÄƒfi) is actually because the text of the Qur'an on the one hand appears as a dialectical process with Arab culture, and on the other hand creates a culture based on existing realities. By adopting the theory of meaning and significance of texts from ED, Hirsch, Nasr divides the categorization of three levels of meaning, namely the meaning that refers to historical facts that cannot be interpreted metaphorically, meaning that can be interpreted metaphorically, and the meaning of "significance" that can be revealed from the context. socio-cultural environment in which the text is located. Nasr also offers five meaning contexts that are closely related to the production of text meaning, including: socio-cultural context, external context (discourse), internal context (discourse content), linguistic context (narrative), and reading context (interpretation). From one of these contexts (namely the linguistic context) Nasr gave rise to new things in the world of text interpretation, namely al-maskut 'anhu (hidden meaning) behind the text.

Makna Dzikir dalam Perspektif Tafsir Sya’rāwī (Studi Analisis terhadap Tafsir Surat Al-Ra’d ayat 28) Misbakhul Khaer

The exploration of the meaning behind the Qur'anic text carried out by the mujtahids (mufasir) from the classical period to the present seems to continue to show its stretching. One of them is Imam Asy Sya'rÄwÄ«, a scholar who lived in the 20th century who tried to understand the Quran from the side of Sociological Education (al-Adab al-IjtimÄ`Ä«). This paper will unravel one of his interpretations and discuss the meaning of serenity that comes from dhikr through the interpretation of the letter al-Ra`Äd: 28. Imam Sya'rÄwÄ« said that the tranquility that arises because of dhikr is conditional. The first condition is to fully believe in the provisions (destiny) of Allah and the second condition is to have total trust in Him. By referring to the diversity of meanings of dhikr, Sheikh Sya'rÄwÄ« argues that dhikr in verse 28 of surah al-Ra`Äd means the Qur'an because every verse that comes from the Qur'an calms the heart of the Prophet Muhammad. His peace of mind is getting stronger because it is supported by his strong faith. As a conclusion to the interpretation of verse 28 of Surah al-Ra`Äd, Sheikh Sya'rÄwÄ« reveals the doubts that befell some orientalists who allege there is a contradiction between the substance of Surah al-Ra`Äd: 28 and Surah al-AnfÄl: 2 In Surah al-Ra`Äd verse 28 it is said that dhikr has the effect of feeling calm and comfortable, while in Surah al-AnfÄl verse 2 it is not so, dhikr actually causes fear. Faced with this accusation, Imam al-Sha'rÄwÄ« replied, that if the orientalists really understood the uslÅ«b (composition) and the characteristics of the Arabic language, they would have known the difference between the two verses which they considered contradictory.

Quran as a human guide book should not only discuss about divine themes, but also as a source of reference related to practical problems such as environment, especially how humans can know and understand well their environment in which they live until the concept of ideal biah can be realized. This paper will introduce ecological insight which its pattern can be read in some verses of Quran. This paper focuses on biah’s verses. The method that will be used in this paper is thematic interpretation method, in which biah’s verses are the main study, which will be analyzed from a historical perspective, therefore the moral idea behind the verses is taken and the values obtained are universal and relevant. This ecological insight is used as the basic for realizing the ideal biah for all human beings. Finally, there are two ecological concepts in al-Quran resulted, firstly, the ideal environment is a liveable place for human being, secondly, reciprocal relationships happened in environments can be positif or can be negative.

Konsep Syifa Dalam Al Qur’an: Studi Komparatif Tafsir Al Ibriz dan Tafsir Al Azhar Nur Imam Akhmad Yani; Qomariyah Qomariyah

The purpose of this study is to find out how to compare the interpretations of KH Bisri Mustofa and KH Malik Karim Amrullah in the Qur'an, and how to analyze the concept of Syifa in the Qur'an with different views according to KH Bisri Mustofa and KH Malik Karim Amrullah. This research is a type of literature research and the approach used is a qualitative approach. The data collection method used in this study was to find the word Syifa in the Qur'an which was described in the book of Tafsir Al-Ibriz by KH Bisri Mustofa and Tafsir Al-Azhar by KH Malik Karim Amrullah. And analyze it between the two Tafsir opinions. The data analysis method used by the researcher was by means of muqoron adjusting the results of the study with the theory that had been described and then the data was analyzed. Based on the results of the analysis of the concept of Syifa in the Qur'an based on two different points of view, namely the Tafsir Al-Azhar by KH Abdul Malik Karim Amrullah and Tafsir Al-Ibriz by KH Bisri Mustofa. In Tafsir Al-Azhar it is more inclined to modern Sufism while in Tafsir Al-Ibriz understands the concept of Syifa by connecting to local wisdom.

Mubadalah in Divorce Rights: Interpretation of QS. An-Nisa Verse 128-130 Perspective of Gender Justice Reason Matsna Khuzaimah; Shinta Nurani

This article discusses gender justice in divorce rights in QS. an-Nisa verses 128 - 130 from the perspective of understanding mub is Faqihuddin Abdul Kodir. The purpose of this study was to determine the interpretation of QS. Al-Nisa verses 128 -130 according to Faqihuddin Abdul Kodir and the concept of divorce rights in the frame of gender justice perspective mafhum mub is Faqihuddin Abdul Kodir. The method used in this research is qualitative using the approach of Jorge G Gracia's Hermeneutic Theory of Interpretation. The results of this study indicate that the interpretation of the right to divorce in QS. an-Nisa verses 128 -130 according to Faqihuddin Abdul Kodir are about the husband's turning away from his wife (Surat al-Nisa: 128), polygamy (Surat al-Nisa: 129), and the way to ask for a divorce (Surat al-Nisa: 130). Therefore understanding mub is to use the interpretation of the QS. Al-Nisa verse 128 - 130, Faqihuddin Abdul Kodir in accordance with the principles of gender justice, namely placing women and men in their rights, without hurting himself, the children and also the family around him

The Concept of al-Bay' in the Perspective of Mauḍū'ī Interpretation: Study of its relevance to technology-based transactions Ahmad Syaichoni; Rifki Sahara

This article aims to re-understand the term al-bay where the context of the revelation of the Koran is different from the technology-based transaction model in the modern era. This article aims to answer the question of how al-Bay's understanding accordances the historical context, the understanding of the commentators and their relevance to technology-based buying and selling transactions in the modern era. These questions are discussed using the mauḍū'ī interpretation method with a library database. The approach used is historical critical. This article shows that the word al-bay' in the Qur'an indicates an effort to seek profit in worldly affairs, especially economics and an effort to seek divine pleasure as provisions for the afterlife in ukhrawi affairs. The historical meaning of al-bay is buying and selling transactions carried out by human beings prioritizing maṣlaḥat and avoiding mafsadat. Meanwhile, technology-based transactions contain al-bay values if they fulfill their willingness, are useful, help each other and are not prohibited. In addition, technology-based buying and selling transactions must prioritize benefit and avoid mafsadat as the purpose of the birth of the term al-Bay in the Koran.

Living Hadith in the Tekuinan Tradition: Study at the Al Munawar Mosque, Kejambon Village, Tegal City Rahmahani Nur Safitri; Nurul Maisyal

Maulid Nabi is one of the most developed traditions in Indonesian society. Almost all regions have their own characteristics in the tradition of celebrating the Prophet's Maulid. The celebration of the Prophet's Maulid in various regions is held every 12 Rabiul Awwal as gratitude for the birth of the Prophet. However, there is something unique about one of the traditions in Tegal, namely the Tekuinan Tradition. This tradition aims to welcome the birthday of the Prophet, but its implementation is not on the 12th but on the 8th of Rabiul Awwal. In fact, this tradition also has its own meaning for the local community and scholars. Through a phenomenological approach, this paper discusses the Tekuinan tradition at the Al-Munawar mosque, Kejambon Village, Tegal City. The results of which state that it is a Living Hadith because basically this tradition is inspired by a poem in the Barzanji book, which is mostly sourced from hadith. In this paper, we will discuss the understanding of the community and scholars towards this tradition and also what traditions are brought to life in the Tekuinan tradition.
