Abstract

Pain following laparoscopic cholecystectomy can interfere with a patient’s comfort and recovery process. Complementary therapies can be used to supplement pharmacological therapy in pain management. This case report aimed to describe the application of a combination of slow deep breathing and healing touch in a patient following laparoscopic cholecystectomy. This case report employs a single-case study design involving a 46-year-old male diagnosed with cholelithiasis following laparoscopic cholecystectomy. The intervention, consisting of a combination of slow deep breathing and healing touch, was administered for three consecutive days, three times daily. Pain levels were measured using the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) before and after the intervention. The participant’s initial pain score was in the NRS range of 7–8. After three days of intervention, the pain score gradually decreased to an NRS of 1. Participants also reported improvements in comfort, sleep quality, and mobility. The application of the combination of slow deep breathing and healing touch in this case was followed by a reduction in pain intensity and an increase in comfort during the recovery period. This intervention has the potential to serve as a complementary therapy in holistic nursing practice.

Abstract

Stunting remained a major public health problem in Indonesia, requiring accurate growth monitoring at integrated health service posts (Posyandu). Posyandu cadres played a vital role in performing anthropometric measurements to determine children’s nutritional status; however, measurement accuracy was often affected by limited technical competence. This study aimed to assess the knowledge and skills of Posyandu cadres in using standardized anthropometric tools in Gorontalo Regency. A mixed methods study was conducted using focus group discussions and a cross-sectional design. A total of 56 cadres were selected through proportionate stratified random sampling. Data were collected using structured questionnaires, observation checklists, and comparison with gold standard measurements. The results showed that 71% of cadres had good knowledge, but only 27% demonstrated adequate skills, and 21% correctly followed standard measurement procedures. The mean differences between cadre measurements and the gold standard were +0.03 kg for body weight and −0.21 cm for height/length. Limited training and lack of calibrated equipment were identified as key barriers. Improving regular training and ensuring the availability of standardized tools are essential to enhance measurement accuracy and support effective stunting prevention programs in primary healthcare settings.

Abstract

Infants born with non-optimal birth weight, either low or excessive, are at risk of experiencing growth and developmental disorders as well as long-term health problems. Maternal triglyceride levels during the third trimester play a role in lipid metabolism and are presumed to influence fetal growth. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between third-trimester maternal triglyceride levels and infant birth weight. This study employed a prospective cohort design involving 30 third-trimester pregnant women selected through consecutive sampling at an independent midwifery practice in Palembang. The study variables included maternal triglyceride levels and infant birth weight, measured using laboratory examination with the GDO-PAP method and a digital infant scale. Data were analyzed descriptively and using Pearson correlation test after logarithmic transformation of triglyceride data. The results showed that the median maternal triglyceride level was 358.3 mg/dL, while the mean infant birth weight was 3031.8 g. Pearson correlation analysis demonstrated no significant relationship between third-trimester triglyceride levels and infant birth weight (r = −0.079; p = 0.676). Third-trimester maternal triglyceride levels were not significantly associated with infant birth weight. The findings indicate that maternal triglyceride levels during the third trimester were not a determining factor of infant birth weight in this study sample.

Abstract

Auditory hallucinations are a common problem in individuals with severe mental disorders that affect cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning and reduce quality of life. This study aimed to determine the effect of scheduled drawing therapy on reducing the signs and symptoms of auditory hallucinations. The method used was a case study with a nursing care approach involving three patients. The intervention was conducted for five consecutive days using structured drawing activities. The results showed a decrease in signs and symptoms in all patients, indicated by reduced self-talking behavior, fear, and improved focus and self-control. It is concluded that scheduled drawing therapy is effective in reducing auditory hallucination symptoms and is recommended as a supportive intervention in mental health nursing practice.

Abstract

Elderly people in social care often experience limited interaction, leading to loneliness, social isolation, and stress, while previous studies generally only tested one type of therapy. This quasi-experimental study aimed to test the effectiveness of a combination of gardening and creative therapy in reducing stress levels in the elderly using a purposive sampling technique. The intervention was conducted over two days in April 2026, with data collected through the GDS-15 questionnaire the day before and after the activity, then analyzed using a paired sample t-test. The results showed a significant effect on reducing stress levels in the elderly after the intervention (significance value .0001 < 0.05), so Ha was accepted. This combination of therapies has been proven to foster a sense of responsibility and happiness that effectively divert feelings of low self-esteem, loneliness, and boredom; therefore, future researchers are expected to combine this action with other, more relevant therapies.

Abstract

Palliative care aims to alleviate the suffering of patients with serious, complex, and terminal illnesses. However, the availability of palliative care services in Indonesia is still limited, and healthcare professionals' understanding is unequal. Although most healthcare professionals demonstrate positive attitudes toward palliative care, gaps in understanding remain that can impact the quality of care provided to terminally ill patients. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between healthcare professionals' perceptions and their attitudes toward providing palliative care to terminally ill patients at Dr. M. Thomsen Regional General Hospital, Nias. The study used a quantitative approach with an observational analytical design and cross-sectional methods. Data were analyzed using a correlation test to determine the relationship between the two variables. The results showed a correlation coefficient (r) of 0.438 with a significance value (p) of 0.001. This indicates a positive and significant relationship between healthcare professionals' perceptions and their attitudes toward providing palliative care. It was concluded that better perceptions are associated with more positive attitudes toward providing palliative care. Therefore, strengthening palliative care education and training is needed to improve healthcare professionals' competence in providing care to terminally ill patients.
