Abstract

Hypertension remains a global health concern, with high prevalence rates in Indonesia, particularly among the elderly aged 60 and above. The high incidence of hypertension in Pajang, Surakarta, is believed to stem from limited awareness regarding the importance of a hypertension diet as a non-pharmacological treatment. This study is a quantitative study with a correlational design. The sample consisted of 100 elderly subjects with hypertension in the working area of the Pajang Community Health Center, selected using simple random sampling. This study was conducted in 2025. As the data were not normally distributed, the Spearman rank correlation test was used for analysis. The findings showed that 79% of subjects had good knowledge, and 82% demonstrated good dietary compliance. A strong positive correlation was found between knowledge and compliance (r = 0,589, p-value <0,001), confirming a significant relationship between the two among elderly patients in the Pajang Community Health Center, Surakarta. Elderly patients was encouraged to continue enhancing their understanding of dietary management for hypertension, whether through health professionals or reliable information sources. With greater knowledge, patients are expected to be more consistent in maintaining a healthy diet, which in turn can help control blood pressure and prevent complications.

Abstract

In Indonesia, the coverage of tuberculosis preventive treatment in household contacts has not reached the national target (58%) of 2,6%. In the age group <5 years and other risk groups, the coverage was 5,1% and 3,1% , and the coverage in PLHIV was 6% with a national target of 50%. This literature review aimed to explore the factors that determine successful completion of TB preventive treatment. The literature review approach was conducted using databases from PubMed, Google Scholar, and ProQuest. Articles selected were full text, open access, between 2015 and 2025, and not a literature review, systematic review, or meta-analysis. From 487,952 articles based on keywords, 16 articles were selected that met the objectives and inclusion criteria of this study. The 16 articles were then entered into a matrix table to identify research results that were factors associated with the completion rate of tuberculosis preventive treatment (TPT) in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis. High TPT completion was supported by demographic factors, safe treatment regimens with minimal side effects, technology-based community approaches, improved access and adherence, tuberculosis education, social support, integrated health care systems and health policies.

Abstract

Cervical cancer is the leading cause of death that most often occurs in women. This is due to lack of information and late treatment, so in this case providing health education regarding the importance of early detection of cervical cancer with the visual inspection with acetic acid (VIA) which is considered the fastest and cheapest method is very important to do. Using audiovisual media that is interesting and easy to understand so that women can be motivated to do early detection of cervical cancer as soon as possible to reduce mortality and morbidity due to cervical cancer. This type of quantitative research with a quasi-experimental design of a single group pre-test-treatment-post-test, to 38 subjects of fertile women who were taken by accidental sampling, using the Wilcoxon signed rank test. The results of the study showed an increase in motivation to do early detection of cervical cancer with the visual inspection with acetic acid (VIA) after receiving health education through audiovisual media (p-value < 0,05). It was concluded that audiovisual media were very effective for health education in increasing motivation for women to do early detection of cervical cancer with the acetic acid inspection method.

Abstract

Self-harm behavior in adolescents is a common mental health problem and is associated with difficulties in emotion regulation. This study aimed to describe the expectations of students who engage in self-harm behavior. A quantitative method with a descriptive design was employed. The sample consisted of 81 students from “SMP X” who had a history of self-harm behavior and were selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using the Non-Suicidal Self-Injury Expectancy Questionnaire (NEQ) and analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results showed that expectations related to self-harm behavior were in the high category across several aspects. In the affect regulation aspect, most subjects expected to feel calm after engaging in self-harm behavior (mean = 3.27). In the negative social aspect, subjects expected that others would notice them and perceive them as strange (mean = 3.14). In the communication aspect, subjects expected to receive attention and sympathy from others (mean = 2.99). In the pain aspect, subjects expected self-harm to be painful (mean = 3.27). In the negative self-beliefs aspect, subjects expected to feel ashamed after engaging in self-harm (mean = 3.23). In conclusion, students with a history of self-harm behavior have various expectations, particularly related to emotional regulation and social interaction.

Abstract

The high prevalence of prehypertension and hypertension in adolescents related to campus activity duration is a concern because long working hours have been associated with increased blood pressure, although previous findings remain inconsistent. This study aimed to determine the correlation between the length of campus-related work and blood pressure in medical students. A cross-sectional design with an analytical survey approach was used. The independent variables were measured using self-administered questionnaires, including the Perceived Stress Scale, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, and Global Physical Activity Questionnaire. Blood pressure was assessed through physical examination using a digital sphygmomanometer. A total of 48 subjects were selected through simple random sampling. Bivariate analysis was conducted using Fisher’s exact test. The results showed that duration of campus activity (p-value = 0.176), stress level (p-value = 0.870), physical activity (p-value = 0.694) and sleep quality (p-value = 0.345), all variables had p-values > 0.05. These findings indicated no significant relationship between the duration of campus activity and blood pressure among medical students at Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta. Future studies were encouraged to include additional variables such as sodium intake and employ alternative designs such as cohort studies.

Abstract

Uremic pruritus was a distressing symptom frequently experienced by patients undergoing hemodialysis, characterized by widespread daily itching that was symmetrical, bilateral, without dermatomal patterns or primary skin lesions. The symptoms could be generalized or localized, particularly on the back, abdomen, and arms. This systematic review aimed to identify complementary therapy methods and their frequency of administration in managing pruritus among patients with Chronic Kidney Disease-associated Pruritus (CKD-aP) undergoing hemodialysis. The study used a systematic literature review design with a PICOST approach. The included studies were randomized controlled trials and quasi-experimental studies published between 2014 and 2024. The literature search was conducted through PubMed, Springer Link, ScienceDirect, SAGE Journals, Taylor & Francis, and Semantic Scholar. Article selection included duplicate removal using Mendeley, followed by title, abstract, and full-text screening based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. A total of 13 articles met the eligibility criteria. The results showed that acupressure, acupuncture, foot reflexology massage, clove oil, violet oil, virgin coconut oil, peppermint oil, EPA supplementation, and dill oil were effective in reducing pruritus among CKD-aP patients. The most frequently used interventions were peppermint oil and virgin coconut oil through topical application or massage. Complementary therapies had the potential to serve as effective adjunctive treatments, although their effectiveness varied and some studies had methodological limitations.

Abstract

One approach to restore hemoglobin levels was blood transfusion. Another approach to help prevent the risk of pressure ulcers was alternating the patient's position from right to left. This study aimed to describe the impact of blood transfusion and alternating right and left positioning in anemic patients with nursing problems of ineffective peripheral perfusion and risk of pressure ulcers. This study used a case report method. The sample was a male patient in an internal medicine ward. Data collection was conducted using observation, physical examination, and interviews. The patient's peripheral perfusion condition improved, accompanied by improvements in vital signs after the administration of 390 mL of PRC transfusion in two units. In addition, no damage to skin integrity was observed, and the Braden Score showed a change from 12 (high risk of pressure ulcers) to 15 (low risk) after repositioning the patient using a 90° lateral position every 1–2 hours for three days. The findings indicated that both therapies were effective in improving peripheral perfusion and reducing the risk of pressure ulcers.

Abstract

Nursing students often faced challenges in adapting socially to new environments, which can lead to feelings of loneliness. In response, many turn to excessive smartphone use, potentially resulting in nomophobia. This study aims to examine the relationship between loneliness and nomophobia among final-year nursing students who are studying away from home. The study employed a correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. A total sampling technique was used, involving 147 subjects. Data collection instruments included validated and reliable questionnaires: the UCLA Loneliness Scale (ULS-20) to assess loneliness, and the Indonesian version of the NMP-Q-10 to measure nomophobia. Data were analyzed using the Spearman rank correlation test. The results showed no significant relationship between loneliness and nomophobia among the subjects (p = 0,621; p > 0,05). Future studies are expected to use longitudinal designs and more complex conceptual models to gain a deeper understanding of the mechanisms underlying this relationship. The researchers recommend that nomophobia studies be conducted offline and linked to other aspects such as length of time spent away from home, frequency of returning home, and intensity of smartphone use.

Abstract

Patient safety is a critical component of surgical procedures, with the Surgical Safety Checklist (SSC) playing a key role in minimizing medical errors. However, its implementation in healthcare settings continues to face challenges in medical team compliance. This study aimed to examine the relationship between the type of surgical procedure and the level of compliance of medical teams in implementing SSC. An analytic survey with a cross-sectional approach was conducted at a maternal and child specialty hospital in urban Yogyakarta. Data were collected through observation of 65 surgical procedures using a checklist based on the three SSC phases (sign-in, time-out, sign-out), and analyzed using the chi-square test. Results showed elective surgeries were more dominant (55,4%), with the majority of patients undergoing cesarean section (84,6%). A significant association was found between surgery type and compliance during the time-out (p-value = 0,004) and sign-out (p-value = 0,011) phases, but not during the sign-in phase (p-value = 0,195). Overall, only 27,7% of surgeries were performed with full SSC compliance. These findings indicate that surgical procedure type significantly influences SSC compliance, particularly in the time-out and sign-out phases, and underline the need for targeted system strengthening through structured training, standardized workflow integration, and continuous compliance monitoring to improve patient safety outcomes.
